Plywood was of high quality and very attractive. I clearly understand there are always risks of damage during shipping of any product, but unfortunately the packaging for this 2x4 specialty plywood piece had very minimal protection for the obviously vulnerable corners. Three of the four corners were significantly mangled by apparent handling issues during shipment. I had to trim back the piece to create new clean corners an inch smaller in height and width than the piece I ordered. Didn't have time to go through another cycle of returning & re-ordering what I needed. So, good product, very poor packaging for an expensive piece of veneer finishing plywood. Recommend you look for local supplier, even if price is higher...probability of damage from this HD supplier is not acceptable.
I've had good luck with these project panels in the past but this one is a dud. To start the edges have some significant chipout/tearout. I'll end up losing about 1/4 to 1/2 inch needing to clean things up. You can also immediately see gaps in the plys right on the side. In addition, and the worst of the issues, there is chipped out veneer on BOTH sides. It's clear the problem is due to a knot but it looks terrible and basically makes the piece unusable for anything decorative. Just feels like there is some real quality control questions here. Also an unfortunate reminder of the risk in shipping any type of lumber without first inspecting it.
UPS just delivered this package and since it was damaged I thought I would open it right away to look. The plywood itself was fine, but it was dropped on one end and the corner was smashed a little. there is a bow in the plywood which being 1/4" I'll be able to use it anyway. The front side has a nice uniform look to it. The back has two different colors of wood. For using this it a back of a box or cabinet it will work fine.
I am not familiar with this wood, and I found out it does not have the quality of other fine plywood such as oak, however Alder is a good choice for painted projects or it can be stained and used on surfaces that are not as visible. And it is available in 2 FT x 8 FT lengths. The plys are solid with no visible gaps. It did arrive with milling surface imperfections on both sides which detracted from its appearance and usefulness. It is superior to standard sanded plywood..
This alder “Project Panel” provides a great option for those needing small quantities of hardwood not readily available locally. Both sides of the panel are “B-2” quality veneers of alder, thick enough for sanding and staining. The core is only 3-plys of material, so exposed edges won't have the finished look of Baltic or “Euro-ply” wood; edge-trim or hidden joinery is a must. There are only a few filled knot-holes and such on my panels, so avoiding them if desired still leaves a lot of prime veneer available. I wish these were available at my local Home Depot, but shipping is only about $6.00 so it's still a good option for small quantities. Overall it's a great option at a reasonable price.
Pros: Alternative for Real Wood, High Quality of Material
This plywood is a good trade-off between price and quality. I have used better plywood, but not in this price range. The size is also convenient, it fits in my small car without needing to bring the trailer, which is a major factor for me living 90 miles from the nearest Home Depot store.
Judging by the edges, before and after cutting, the plywood is almost completely void free. The surface veneer is free of defects and takes on a fine finish.
It is of course not furniture grade, but a nice piece of plywood. The cut I received had a beautiful grain and I stained it a cherry color for a shelf. It matched the cherry cabinet perfectly. I am very pleased overall with this.
Pros: High Quality of Material, Alternative for Real Wood, Easy to Install, accepts stain well

the plywood was well packaged and protected during the shipping process, with only minor impacts on a coupe of corners; most of the surface was without gaps or blemish - a few sheets contained smaller unfilled knots that I will have to touch up
