SUMMARY: A NICE SHADE THAT MEETS MY REQUIREMENTS. BACKGROUND: I have an outdoor work area where afternoon sun causes a glare. The Coolaroo Exterior Shade looked like a good solution. FIT AND FINISH: The shade appears to be a light to medium duty construction. Steel brackets and some plastic appearance parts. The shade itself is an open weave plastic that blocks most light, but is not room darkening. FEATURES: From the Home Depot page, with my comments as appropriate. Coolaroo outdoor shades provide a fresh, unique, stylish addition to any decor. • Blocks heat and reduces glare o It definitely reduces glare. • Increases privacy o Not a consideration for me, but the close weave does block direct view through the screen. • Cordless for child safety o The wand replaces a string draw mechanism which eliminates child entanglement. But you do have to keep the kids from playing with the crank rod which could cause problems. • Hardware included o Everything I needed to mount the shade was included. The screws were stainless steel, which is a must for exterior mouning. • Smooth crank operation o The shade is easy to lower or raise with the included crank. My screen is mounted 12 feet above ground which put the crank above the reach of anyone less than 5 ½ feet tall. • Certified best for kids o I assume this is because there are no strings attached. INSTALLATION: The instructions were good with a nice mixture of drawings and written directions. The brackets are screwed into position and the shade assembly inserts into the crank end, then snaps into the opposite end. Due to the height above ground I had to use a support strap and 8-foot ladder, but that was anticipated. Installation was relatively easy. The two hold-down assemblies are nice although my installation only allowed installation of one. OPERATION: Once installed the crank raises or lowers the shade. If wind is an issue the two included bungee cords can be used to secure the bottom ends. SUMMARY: This shade should do the job as a work area shade. PROS: Easy to install

COOLAROO STONE CORDLESS LIGHT FILTERING FADE RESISTANT FABRIC EXTERIOR ROLLER SHADE 96 IN. W X 96 IN. L, GREY is a very easy and fast way to add privacy and shade to your porch or patio. I currently have another brand shade that doesn't raise or lower, it is attached by screws at the top and anchors at the bottom. The first big wind storm pulled all the anchors out of the ground, so every time the winds pick up we have to undo the anchors and bungee the screen out of the way. Although this screen is a bit smaller than my current opening it is much easier to raise and lower as needed. It installs very quickly with a drill and a screw driver. The handle to raise and lower can be removed when not in use.

For the money, these shades check off all the boxes; good product, good sun blockage and color Is versatile. I bought these exterior shades to knock down some blaring west sun off my covered patio, so we could dine out on patio at dinner hour. These do block sun but yet allow breeze to still circulate. Win-win. I purchased two of these off rack at Home Depot and am now ordering a custom size one for the south side of same covered patio. Not that hard to install either. If you want to know what montecito color is I would say a dark brown, dark gray with some black in there. It really looks different in different lighting. The valance or cassette color is either dark brown or black, again depending on light. These shades are good ones.

Easy to install and our patio is so much cooler now! Would have liked it to be a little longer, but it fit for what we needed. Love this!

I am still in the process of mounting this, so my review is based on what I see thus far. It is relatively lightweight, and yet the material on the shade itself is very thick and appears to be of great quality. The mounting hardware is very solid and should last a long, long time. My difficulty mounting is due to my situation. One location has a gutter in the way, and I don’t want to drill 8nto the stucco on the house. Instead I am going to mount it on a piece of Azack or composite, then mount that to the house. The other location is actually going to be on the side of a gazebo. I am going to use Azack or composite there too, and use U bolts to fasten Again, this is very high quality and I can’t wait to finish my install and have it “made I the shade”

Good choice for extra shade and reduce heat inside Pergola..easy to install. Choice of colors and price range reasonable

The shades look great and work great to filter the sun, but the Cranks are a problem. They rusted after 6 months. I would hope they would use a better material because the Cranks make the whole shade look bad. Customer service was really nice, but it has taken 2 1/2 months and still have not gotten results

These are mesh screens, so sun does get through. I would have preferred a solid vinyl shade, but the descriptions were vague about whether they were mesh or solid. In any case, it still provides 90+% reduction in UV light. The sizes are accurate, but I could have used 3-4 more inches of length for covering my pool equipment. It's held up under the 30+mph wind gusts, whereas my other makeshift covers of pine and 1" thick insulation board tended to explode and end up down the gully. You can see that when used horizontally, with tension on the ends, the plastic (?) end bows; but if it's used vertically and just hangs from gravity, there's no issue. The color matches the rest of my brick & stucco wall; and we'll see how long it survives in this Arizona sun.

The shade is the perfect size for my eight foot wide sliding patio doors. It covers from one edge to the other without leaving a crack on either side.  It was easy to install just requiring the brackets mounted over the door then install one end of the shade into the mounting hole on the right side and then slide the other end into the bracket and twist it to lock it into place.  With the roller handle, simply slide it into the hole and you are all set to roll it down and back up by simply rotating the handle one direction or the other.  The fade resistant fabric also filters the light so I can knock down the summer sun and still have the benefit of light coming through.

This is a nice heavy-duty shade designed to be utilized outside for gazebos and pergolas. I am actually using this one on the inside our Florida room. It helps in converting the room into an additional bedroom for the Grandkids. It is very well made and constructed. The mounting brackets were easy to install and support the shade quite well. It filters the light very good, and provides good privacy.

The Coolaroo Cordless Roller Shade is exactly what I needed to eliminate the afternoon sun's glare on my hot tub and, as a bonus, I learned that it significantly reduces exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays as well. The shade is lightweight and was really easy to install (taking about 20 minutes including reading the instructions) and it is so simple to operate. I really like the roller wand that makes raising and lowering the shade hassle free, and the shade includes bungee tie downs to secure the shade while lowered (but not recommended for high wind conditions).

Our master deck gets a lot of morning and midday sun therefore making it pretty warm out there. So we wanted to put something up to help keep the harsh sun out yet we still wanted some airflow to the area. With this being said we decided to get the Coolaroo stone cordless light filtering exterior roller shade. The fabric is a nice lighter grey fade resistant material. Just the shade is 96 inches wide by 96 inches long. In picking it I did not take into consideration the little extra amount of space I would need for the brackets which was my own fault but something to keep in mind when measuring to get the size you need. Since we needed about 2 extra inches we simply put an extra piece of wood on to the uprights we were mounting it on so it was an easy fix. The fabric is great for filtering the sun yet you can still see through it. Overall the unit was very easy to install and operate. It has a nice long handle to raise and lower it and can be stopped at any length. They also include 2 bungee type attachments for the bottom that have little balls that lock into the included little mounts to help hold the shade down in the wind. This is great where we live as we get a lot of wind sometimes and it was actually windy when we installed it so we got to check that feature straight away. The only bad thing was one of the brackets was slightly bent so we had to bend it back into the proper shape. In the pictures it may look crooked but it is the roof that is at an angle so rest assured it has nothing to do with the shade. So far I am really liking this shade. It also gives us an unexpected bit of privacy from the neighbors as well. It seems like it is well made and should hold up for years to come. The material seems very easy to clean, just take a hose to it! I am already noticing that the temperature on the deck has dropped yet I am still getting a good breeze. I may order a few of these to go over some of our windows that we like to have the curtains open on for the light but don’t want all the heat to come through.

I had few of these in my patio and added one more to get annice private feel. Love these blinds. Nice quality, durable and easy to install.

I picked up this Coolaroo Stone Cordless Light Filtering Fade Resistant Fabric Exterior Roller Shade to place outside of my east facing glass sliding door. The sun heats the glass door warming up that bedroom, and it also makes the room very bright at sunrise making it hard to sleep in. The install was quick and easy. I love the look of the shade. It’s super easy to retract and extend down. So far it seems to help reduce the heat and light in the bedroom!

We chose Coolaroo’s 10’ wide x 8’ tall “wand operated” shade. The color is “stone” (light gray) and the package lists “up to 95% UV blocking” capability. The fabric looks nice and doesn’t feel “plasticy” despite being water resistant. The detachable wand allows you to easily raise or lower the shade in about 30 seconds. Bungee tie-downs keep the shade from flapping in the wind. It effectively blocks the sun but lets some light through. Instructions are good, and the installation is relatively easy with a drill and screwdriver. All mounting hardware is included. The only minor hassle is that the right-side clutch mechanism (for the wand) partially interferes with your screwdriver when screwing the bracket to the wall. This can be circumvented by removing the clutch from its bracket, attaching the bracket to the wall, then reattaching the clutch. 2 screws hold the clutch to the bracket. The shade is not heavy, but at 10’ long it’s unwieldy so it helps to have two people. By default the clutch is on the right and the brackets extend straight out from the wall, but it can be reversed (left side) or changed to hang down from a ceiling/eaves by removing the same screws described above, and reinstalling the clutch in a different orientation. The instructions explain this well. Note that while the shade is 120” wide, the brackets need a total width of 122.75”, so be careful if you’re installing this in a tight space. Minor gripes: - The shade doesn’t roll up perfectly evenly but this doesn’t affect the functionality - Arthritic hands may have difficulty with the bungee anchors and the wand/crank Coolaroo offers a range of sizes, colors, fabrics, and “UV blocking” capabilities. High quality sun screen. A vast improvement over the corded venetian blinds or the corded fan fold sunscreen. The removable rank handle makes raising and lowering the shade very simple. Because this has a gear drive it stays in a set position without having to use a ty cord to keep it in place. While this blocks the harsh sunlight it is translucent enough to give a soft lighting effect. The material feels high quality and should give many years of service. Since it is a fairly tight weave it will blow in the wind if the bottom aluminum rod is not anchored during windy days.

This Coolaroo Light-filtering roller shade really helps to keep my porch cooler, and it provides some privacy when desired. I like that it does not completely block out the view. I did have to remove the clutch part from the bracket to install, but it just meant unscrewing 4 screws. Even though I properly measured for the screws, I liked that the brackets had slots so I could fine tune them to fit the shade. Then I attached a short rope to a nearby hook and after inserting the clutch side of the shade into the bracket, I slid the shade into the loop to hold it until I moved over to that side to guide that end into the proper slot. This made it so easy doing a one-person installation. It arrived by Freight shipping and was safely packaged in a thick and sturdy tube. Everything needed for installation is included. I love the neutral color. Although it is a "stone" color, it is close to an off-white that blends in well with the white wood stain. I like that this shade can be hung from above or from the side. The wand that rolls up the shade is easy to operate and it does so smoothly. Since I do not always lower the shade completely, I will use different tie downs than the included bungee cord and receivers that limit my options.

It comes with all the hardware and mounting screws and very detailed instructions. You can mount it from the Top or the side so it gives you plenty of options of the location. It is very easy to install and once the brackets are up it just snaps in place. The wand to raise/lower is a perfect addition, I did not install the anchors as I just keep it rolled up when I'm not outside.

I got this for my mother-in-law so she could have some privacy on her patio. It came with easy to follow instructions and all of the hardware need for a smooth installation. She really loves how long the crank handle is. She is short, and the long handle is very easy for her to crank. The shade also helps keep her cooler in the hot Florida sun. It is made of quality materials and looks great.

The Coolaroo Stone Cordless Light Filtering Fade Resistant Fabric Exterior Roller Shade 72 in. W x 96 in. L, Grey is SUCH a great shade - for exterior or indoor needs! The instructions even include the multiple installation options - both out and indoor install options (see picture) and the actual install is very simple with easy to follow instructions. All hardware is included and the roller shade itself is not so cumbersome - making it an efficient and not so timely install. Our upstairs bedroom was renovated/added after the fact, had no blinds attached. and was sold to us with just decorative curtains. We kept them up, do like the look, but they did nothing to keep the room cool at all. The temperature difference is significant and the amount of the blasted sun coming through the window is drastically less (see picture)!

I really like this shade. It's nice for something to meet your expectations so well. The Cooleroo roller shade comes very well packaged and comes with things you might need for typical installation. The shade is light weight but not cheap feeling at all. I was able to fabricate a couple of small aluminum brackets for my shade and was able to clock the roller mechanism around so it was usable in my application. I installed the shade by myself, again it not heavy, and am very happy with what it does for my sun porch. The shade fabric allows some light and some air through and is supposed to be weather "resistant" and easy to clean. The only thing I'd do different would be to get the 10 footer.

I really like this COOLAROO STONE CORDLESS LIGHT FILTERING FADE RESISTANT FABRIC EXTERIOR ROLLER SHADE 72 IN. W X 96 IN. L in GREY. Install is really easy. Definitely need 2, maybe 3 people. Once you Mark your end location and it’s level, simple use the 4 screws to install. One end at a time, insert roller shade and then the other end. The roller wand is sturdy and it rolls and unrolls smooth. A little light comes through, light rains don’t come through. Perfect for patios. Make sure to install pieces at the bottom which hooks the shades and keeps it from blowing everywhere. We’ve even used this shade as a projector screen and watched movies outside.

This shade is perfect for blocking the afternoon sun from our south-facing covered patio. Its stated effectiveness is blocking 95% 0f UV rays so It lets very little light to pass, which makes the patio much more usable. The fabric obscures the view but does not completely block it. It will also provide great privacy if you need it. Mounting the end supports—Idle End Unit and Clutch-- is very straight forward using the stainless-steel screws provided and the screw-to-screw measurements provided. The support brackets a painted steel with slide-on plastic end covers. The holes in the end supports are slotted 1-inch to allow for final adjustments. My measurements were right on, but I still needed to adjust the brackets a quarter-inch wider to make the shade fit. So, be prepared to make a trial fit and adjust the brackets accordingly. The Clutch is the end with the lug for the Wand used to raise and lower the shade. The Clutch can be swapped to the opposite end and/or rotated for a top mount. Since I could use the configuration as shipped which saved me a few minutes. Except…what the instructions do not say is that it is necessary to remove the clutch assembly from the bracket to get a straight shot at installing the mounting screws on that end. Sliding the 10-foot-long shade onto the brackets is much easier with two people. The instructions say the installation time is approximately 20-minutes which is about right. The shade fabric is exactly 120-inches wide and overall bracket-to-bracket width is 122-3/4-inches. The shade assembly weighs between 10 and 11-pounds. The only addition that I made was to add a screw eye to the column nearest the clutch from which to hang the wand when not in use. The wand operates the shade very smoothly and the shade stays in place after the wand is removed. There is an aluminum tube at the bottom to add some stability in very light winds and the ends can hold bungee cords which can be attached to brackets—all included. If you remove one of the bottom end fittings, the inside diameter of the aluminum tube is large enough to receive a ½-inch diameter rod—aluminum or steel—if additional weight is desired. Most of the time, we only lower the shade about half-way, so the weight provides additional stability. The color was listed as gray/grey on the HD website, but labeled as Stone on the packaging. It is a very light gray color. See photo for color compared to Gray Trex decking. The shade package arrived in a heavy-duty cardboard tube. Although the shipping weight was listed at 20-pounds, the tube and packaging weighed 15.8 pounds, so the overall weight shipping weigh was closer to 26-pounds. The product comes with a “Limited Lifetime” warranty which is a little misleading. If you go to the CoolarooUSA or HD website and look at the warranty, you will see what I mean. (There are no warranty details in the installation instructions or packaging.) The shade is a product of China.

Just the right weight and material to block out the hot afternoon / setting sun in Florida. It was an easy install, attach the two end brackets to the wall and snap in the shade (about 30 mins for two people). It isn't spring loaded so must be extended and retracted with the hand crank. Even when it is extended it's still possible to see the outline of objects behind it, which in our case is a lagoon. Perfect for our needs.

This Coolaroo outdoor roller shade is the best thing for screening an outside area when the afternoon sun is just too much. It provides privacy if needed. This light grey textured polypropylene shade has the look of a high end shade at a very affordable price. The cordless operation is a safety factor. It comes with all of the necessary installation hardware. The large approx. eight feet by eight feet blocks out damaging UV rays. This comes in different sizes and colors.
