At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you, when calling in, please have the product package available, as we will need to collect production information from it, so that we can determine the age of your product.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review regarding DAP Roof Waterproof Asphalt Filler & Sealant. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "1. Cut nozzle at 45º angle to desired bead size. 2. Puncture inner foil seal. 3. Load cartridge into caulk gun. 4. Fill gap or crack with sealant." In order to properly dispense this product, the "inner foil seal" must be punctured. Failure to cut the nozzle and/or to puncture the inner foil seal will not permit the product the flow from the application tip as intended. If this foil seal is not properly punctured or the nozzle opening is cut to a very narrow diameter, it will create a too narrow of a restriction for the product to flow (without the use of excessive force). This condition can also occur if the product has thickened due to exceeding its shelf life or if dried material is physically blocking the nozzle (between initial use/re-use attempts). Based on the difficulty that you encountered while attempting to apply the product, it would appear that you may have purchased aged/expired product (newly purchased may not necessarily be of recent manufacture). As product ages, it will thicken to the point of becoming difficult or impossible to use. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you, when calling in, please have the product package and your receipt available, as we will need to collect production information from it (to verify the product's age).

As product ages, it will thicken to the point of becoming difficult or impractical to use. DAP does not have direct control of stock rotation/inventory management. When calling, please be sure to have the package (squeeze tube) available, as we will need to verify the production code in order to determine the date of manufacture.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are not clear as to the intent of your review. DAP Watertight Roof Sealant is an asphalt formula (not a silicone formula). This sealant is designed, tested, marketed, labeled, and recommended for use in residential construction, specifically for roofing applications. DAP Watertight Roof Sealant is not designed, tested, marketed, labeled or recommended for use in transportation applications (marine, automotive, etc.). For most automotive applications, we would recommend the use of DAP Auto/Marine 100% RTV Silicone Sealant, DAP Item Number 7079800694. If the burst strength of the package is exceeded, product may leak from the rear of the cartridge (plunger). This is a fail-safe designed to prevent the cartridge wall from rupturing. This condition can also occur if the product has thickened due to exceeding its shelf life or if dried material is physically blocking the nozzle (between initial use/re-use attempts).
