In application areas where previously applied silicone sealant or its residue is present, proper adhesion development of other sealant chemistries would not be expected. As this is a water-based/acrylic-latex formula, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation of water. Dry time can be significantly impacted by cool or humid application conditions, moisture in/on the application surface or by thick (deep) applications of the sealant. Application outside of these conditions will lead to long dry times and slow performance development. Because you did not provide any details regarding your application, such as application surfaces, surface preparation, bead size, humidity or any information regarding your application technique, it is difficult to provide you with a more detailed reply or any specific product usage guidance in this format. DAP also offers a line of fast cure sealants, such as DAP AMP Advanced Modified Polymer Waterproof Kitchen, Bath and Plumbing Sealant or DAP Silicone Max 100% Premium Kitchen and Bath Silicone Sealants for use under more difficult application conditions or for projects that require faster "return to service times". As is the case with all acrylic-latex (water based) sealants, volume loss will occur as the product dries, this is normal characteristic for this type of formula. Only non-water/non-solvent-based sealants are capable of "low/no volume loss" performance, however, these types of sealants will require the use of solvent (mineral spirits/paint thinner) for clean-up, likewise, some of these sealants are not paintable. KWIK SEAL PLUS would not be expected to have a "rubbery" texture or the same degree of flexibility as a 100% silicone rubber sealant. DAP offers a full line of silicone rubber sealants, including DAP SILICONE MAX PREMIUM KITCHEN, BATH & PLUMBING 100% SILICONE SEALANT. Based on your description indicating that cracking began to appear "immediately", it would appear that there may be some instability in the surfaces that were being filled and/or the product was being applied too thickly (which can result in uneven drying/tension, leading to cracking). The competitive product you are referencing (a 100% silicone) is a completely different chemistry from DAP Kwik Seal Plus (acrylic-latex/water-based formula), which dramatically different working properties/performance characteristics. The equivalent DAP 100% silicone product would be DAP Silicone MAX. Without more details about your application conditions and project specifics, it is difficult to provide a more detailed reply in this format. As a general rule, most shower door manufacturers specify the use of 100% silicone-based sealants for their installation. KWIK SEAL is an acrylic latex-based formula (water-based) and not well suited for application between/underneath two non-porous materials (examples: metal to plastic, metal to fiberglass, metal to glazed tile/fixture), this limitation applies to any acrylic-latex (water-based) product.
