Brand new 4 ounce can was opened and the putty flowed outward and had to be pushed back in to mix. The can was only half full. I didn't expect a lot of putty from a 4 ounce can but I only had some cracks to fill on a 2x4x6. The 4 ounce half of a can barely did the job. I would not buy this product again.

Thank you for posting your feedback. The DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler is filled by weight (NET WT.), not by volume (fl. oz.). To properly measure (verify) the fill rate of this product, the entire contents of the can would need to be removed and weighed on a scale. Relative to the size of the package, the observed fill rate depicted in your photograph would be considered normal for this product. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

This is the second can of Dap that I purchased where the can is not completely filled. The first one had a huge air bubble in the middle so the can was only partially full. The white can I purchase by curbside pick up because of the covid restrictions. When I opened the can it was less then half full. I will be returning when I can and NEVER purchase Dap again. I could understand the air bubble in the first can, but two times is enough chances!!

Thank you for posting your feedback. The DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler is filled by weight (NET WT.), not by volume (fl. oz.). The volume of the can is over-sized to allow for solvent vapor expansion, "in can" mixing and the addition of thinning solvent (acetone) as well as stains or colorants. The visual appearance of the product's fill line that you reference, would be considered normal for this product. Should require have any additional questions, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
Appeared to be almost empty upon opening, would hardly stick, then crumbled and fell off

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience with DAP Plastic Wood. Based on your description of the product's texture, it would appear that you may have purchased material that was not properly sealed or aged/beyond its normal shelf life. If the package is not properly sealed or as the product ages, it will thicken/dry to the point of becoming difficult/impractical or impossible to use. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you, when calling in, please have the product package available, as we will need to collect production information from it and so that we can reach out to the store location where you purchased this product.

Plastic Wood has been the defacto standard wood filler for as long as I can remember, and my "go to" product for prepping holes or cracks in furniture, trim, or paneling prior to painting or staining. The main benefits are its strength, stain-ability, and quick-dry formula. On the flip side you need to work quickly, add acetone from time to time, and purchase only what you'll use for the project because it will harden up over time, even in the tubes. With that in mind, I purchased a 4-ounce can of the Dap product in white to prep new trim and shelving in my dad's garage. Unfortunately the can appeared only 1/2 filled and I soon ran out. So I ran back to Home Depot and purchased a 2nd can. Before using, I confirmed it too was only 1/2 filled. Assuming the filler is not as dense as milk, I carefully weighed 4 ounces of fresh 2% and poured it into the empty can. It took up 90% of the container. (Photos attached) So I cannot recommend the product as a good value until someone explains this weight discrepancy.

Thank you for posting your review. The DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler is filled by weight (NET WT.), not by volume (fl. oz.). The density of this product is calculated to be 10.17 pounds per gallon, whereas 2% milk is calculated to be approximately 8.62 pounds per gallon (a 20% difference in density). Without a known density for the two materials that you are attempting to compare, volumetric fill rate, as it correlates to net weight is not possible. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This did a great job on some deep gouges I had in a solid wood door, about 1/2 inch deep, and an inch long. I made sure to overfill them and it dried hard as wood in about 20 minutes. This is my first time this product and it's easy to use. The instructions are clear and helped get me started right away. I have more projects I'm going to use this on. It does have a strong smell to it as I expected, so definitely make sure you have ventilation. I recommend it, much cheaper than replacing when you can repair.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good pliable wood filler. Works great with my paneling. Versatile enough to use on our dining chairs and other high visable detail jobs. Cleans up easily.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would buy this product again. I received a sample from Viewpoints's. It goes on nice and smooth. Doesn't shrink when dried. It work great on small or large areas. Easy to sand, clean, and easy to paint over. I recommend you buy this.
Pros: Easy To Clean, Ergonomic Grip, Even Paint Distribution, Lightweight
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the DAP plastic wood solvent professional wood filler on a do it yourself project in my home. I had to install a new window beside my back door where a sliding door used to be, there were small little gaps in places and this product worked great. I then painted the trim and wall white and the paint went on the dap smooth and looks great i would deffinilty recommend this product to family and friends and i will use it again.
