Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Silicone Max. As indicated on the product package label guidance as well as supporting product literature: "Not paintable. Paint substrate surface before applying sealant.". This performance characteristic is common to all 100% silicone formulas (irrespective of brand). For applications where paint application is desired, the use of an acrylic-latex (water-based) sealant would be recommended. Based on your commentary: "squeezed the caulk gun and nothing came out of the tip but came out the backside" would likely indicate that the inner foil seal was not broken/punctured prior to attempting to apply the product. As indicated on the product package label guidance and supporting product literature: "2. Cut nozzle at a 45º angle to desired bead size. 3. Puncture inner foil seal. 4. Load into caulk gun. 5. Fill gap with sealant, pushing sealant ahead of nozzle."
