Worth the expense
These rust-proof deck screws hold tight - far superior to nails. No danger of stripping a screw slot with a poor-fitting driver -- the star-shaped driver bit included with each box makes for easy and sure screw-down using a power driver or drill. Screws go in flush with the surface.

Solid Product
I bought over 35lbs (get the 25lb container if you are using a lot) for a new deck I built at my house. I had NO issues with stripping. I will offer some advice for anyone having issues with these screws. You need the right tools. I highly recommend a drill bit drive guide. Some of the coatings on the screws fill in the screw head and would make it difficult to get the bit in without a drive guide. With one I was able to drive 2000+ screws in my project without issue. I also used a corded drill and these things went in like butter. Hopefully they last forever...only time will tell on durability

A real step backwards
I have used probably a hundred boxes of the Deckmate square philips screws. Last time I went to the local HD they only had the star drive. So I got a couple of boxes. I used the first today and I am taking the second back. The star drive does not stay engaged as well as the square philips. If I drive screws through the edge of a joist into a beam I cut pocket holes, with the square philips I use a 6" long square bit, it works great. Not an option with the star drive; and I can't make it drive them deep enough. Also these screws have a different thread. Its shorter and does not seem to hold as well. I had them strip out the holes when placing blocking (screws going into the end grain). I never had that happen with the old screws. I am just very unhappy with this product.

Strips easily. Terrible!
Bought a 5 pound box of these for use on a fence and wood shed. Used the whole box but about a pound of them ended up in the trash after getting stripped. Tried the bit that comes with the box and it was less satisfactory than the impact driver bit I used. The box of Grip Rite screws I bought along with it for comparison came to the rescue. Did not strip one of the Grip Rite screws. Do not waste your time. Deckmate screws were a consistent source of frustration and headache throughout both projects.

I hace been a Deckmate-a-holic for over 20 years
I build everything with Deckmate screws and never use nails. I have total confidence that if I hit a knot, the screw will easily go through, the head won't strip or break off. Several have said that the heads strip out and I have had that happen ONLY if I have my drill at an angle to the screw. My daughter has more problems than I with holding the drill straight with the screw and I chide her all the time that she needs to be smarter than the screw. The special bit that comes with it needs to be used. Do not use ordinary Phillips bites as they will not hold. Learn how to use them and you'll love them. I refuse to use any other screw except the Kreq pocket hole screws for pocket joinery. The only downside is that I can't get all five sizes, that I use, in the 25# box, as that is the most economical way of buying them.

Excellent fastener for all outdoor projects.
I have been using these screws for several years. They grab better than any other deck-type screw on the market. They are strong, re-useable, and can be used in any treated or naturally oily wood without staining the finish.

    Great screws
Great screws for decking if used properly. Cannot evaluate long term effectiveness, but will certainly last much longer than the not coated screws that were used to build my deck initially. Bought four 5 lb packs and had in total 7 screws that were bent or otherwise not usable. To me that is a fantastic ratio.

      These deck screws are great
I am buying more for additional projects! I'll never strip a Phillips head screw again!

      do not buy these screws
I tried these screws this weekend for the first time. DO NOT BUY THESE SCREWS. Unless you want to put in screws twice, stay away. These things won't hold and easily spin in old and new framing members.

      Don't buy these screws !
I bought a 1 LB. box to do deck repairs . 5 screws were bent straight out of the box. I striped the heads on 4 of the screws. Buy better screws ,It's worth your time & money. I did.
