Broke my fingers
Open box return that was told to me that the weather department went through it to make sure it was in running condition. Although it was a discount of $400 because it was an open box and was told everything was operable after four hours the run time it shut off try to start it electric start didn’t work use pull string. It was in compression stroke and ripped the cord out of my hand breaking my fingers

      Crank case ventilation Tube froze
I used it for power outage at -10 F it ran for one tank, then it shut off spewing oil out of the plug where the auto low oil shutoff switch is, the cause is the vent tube going to the air intake was frozen solid. replace plug removed ice, kept happening.

        Ok in a pinch
I bought the generator for a power outage. It ran the appliances that I needed. Only issue I had is that it didnt come with the handle and the motor is very loud. I would only recommend this for a jobsite, not residential or camping. It also had a hard time starting.

When the tornadoes came through our county two weeks ago, my husband and I found ourselves without power for 36 hours. Luckily, we had purchased the Dewalt 8,000 watt generator. Our home is 3,000 square feet, and we have 4 refrigerators and 4 freezers. We had the generator wired into our home. Needless to say, the generator was able to power our entire home and the more-important 4 freezers and 4 refrigerators. With a full tank of gas, it ran 14 hours. I highly recommend this product!

This was ordered online and shipped to my home without any issues. There is minimal assembly required on this generator. You have to attach the wheels, the front bumpers, and the pivoting handle and that's it. Then you'll need to remove a red shipping bracket that is used to keep the motor locked to the frame and add oil (included) and fuel to the tank and you're ready to get started. To start this generator, you'll need to flip to switch to ON, open the fuel line, and turn on the choke (next to the air filter) and then pull the tether to start the motor. I got it on the second pull the first time I started the motor. There is a floating gas gauge that will show you how much fuel is left in the tank. a digital read out that will tell you how many hours the motor has ran as well as three sets of electrical outlets 2 sets of 20 amp outlets and a single 30a outlet. There is also a Co2 detector on the front of this that will kill the generator if too much is detected. So far we've used this to power some household appliances to test as well as our camptrailer to power the entire thing as well as recharge the batteries. all in all it's been a great generator and it will get plenty of use. Hopefully for more recreation purposes and not for emergency purposes. But if we need it, i'm glad we have it.

Dewalt has another home run. This generator will be my back up generator and for use in my out buildings that have no power hook up. These is some minor assembly required, installing the foot pads, wheels and fold-able handle for moving unit around. All in all after assembly and adding the required oil, which came with the unit. in 15 minutes it was running and working fine. They even sent a nice funnel to aid in filling the oil sump....... Besides the typical 110 V outlets, it has a 30 Amp outlet for use with a twist lock extension cord. This twist lock feature will come in very nice when using the generator for power tools and other outdoor related use.... This is a very welcome addition to my shop equipment. Thanks Dewalt.

The 4000 watt gas operated generator is absolutely a fine piece of equipment. It was simple and fast to set up and started on the first pull! My son immediately put it to use on a construction job site and is raving about the ease of portability and plenty of wattage to power his circular saw and chop saw simultaneously with no loss of power! This is one quality generator and will last a lifetime with normal routine preventive maintenance! Thank you Home Depot Seeds Program!

Next day after the generator arrived, to unpacked it, installed the wheels, handle. Then poured the oil that included to the engine. Filled gas in the tank. the engine started on the first rope pull. The unit ran smoothly. I have this new generator as my extra for emergency home use. The generator is very heavy. It is 129 lbs. I used it on a heavy duty dolly with bundles to hold it first, then to move it around to set it up to a utility shed. Hooked to the electric wires to go under my deck to guest bed room for ready to plug in asap when there is no power. a few days ago there was no power due to DUI driver hitting the street light to knock the pole down with power lights down. The generator started on first rope pull. Then went inside to set up the wires to plug in my refrigerator, one box fan. They run fine as if I had power in the house. Till the power came back on. They run good on first time use.

I ordered the DEWALT 6,500-WATT GASOLINE POWERED ELECTRIC START PORTABLE GENERATOR for my husband. It arrived via LTL (semi truck). We did get a few days notice so we could arrange a way to get it off the truck. It's 215 lbs so we needed some help. My husband was a little disappointed as it did not come with enough oil to start it up right away. Once started, he did say it runs ghost compared to others he has heard. It was easy to start.

This generator, which will appeal to those looking to power a moderate amount of single phase 120 volt, 60 Hz loads, has quite a few pluses (and several minuses). Arriving well packed for shipment some assembly is required; however a “Quick-Setup” card will lead one through the assembly of the wheels, handle and feet rather quickly. A spark plug wrench is included for future maintenance use, though not required for initial assembly. Not noted in the Quick-Setup instructions, but called out on a separate tag on the unit is the need to remove a shipping bracket (painted a bright red for identification) prior to operating the generator (in order to allow the elastomeric mounts provide vibration isolation). Although this generator is described in the product description as “electric start”, it is manual (pull rope) start only. It is, however, quite easy to start with one or two pulls. Included with the generator is a bottle of oil for the initial fill (along with a funnel shaped to facilitate pouring the oil in the fill opening without spilling it). Once installed, the handle is easily folded for storage, or extended for ease in moving the (120 pound dry weight) machine about. A spring-loaded detent secures the handle in either the extended or folded position. The wheels (solid rubber tire with plastic hubs) mount to axle pins secured with spring clips (making removal, if desired for fixed mounting, quite easy). The integral 3.4 gallon fuel tank (which has a fuel level gauge installed) is rated by the manufacturer as providing 10 hours of operation at half rated load, requiring a sufficient store of gasoline on hand should there be a prolonged power outage. There is a (metal) quarter turn shut-off valve to shut off fuel to the engine which is handy if one wants to run the engine “dry” for storage, as well as minimizing the possibility of fuel leaks. The generator is provided with a “run-off” switch and separate overcurrent protective device for each of the three circuits (two 20Amp and one 30 Amp), though, due to the really good paint (powder coat?) finish, the knurled nuts securing the protective devices are not conductively connected to the frame/ground. Two 20 amp duplex receptacles (NEMA 5-20R)are installed as is one 30 amp twist-lock receptacle (NEMA L5-30R). When the unit is running the supplied hourmeter will indicate the total operating time accrued and will display a message at 100 hour and 200 hour intervals to remind one to change the oil and clean/replace the air cleaner. The air cleaner is a washable/replaceable foam filter that is easily accessed without the use of tools. A Carbon Monoxide sensor/shutdown is provided and, if the levels of CO rise to dangerous levels it will shut the engine down. The engine will also shut down automatically if the engine oil level falls below the required level. The oil drain plug is easily accessed for oil changes. The generator is rated for 4,000 watts “running” load and 5,000 watts “surge” load. Again…this is a SINGLE PHASE 120 VOLT MACHINE. The engine operates at 3600 RPM and, at ten feet a sound level of approximately 80 dBA was measured. This is not a low noise machine. To test the generator operationally, after filling the crankcase with oil and the fuel tank with gasoline, it started up quickly with two pulls of the starter rope (recoil type, though a little awkwardly located) and easily started and operated a 200psi, 4.5 gallon “portable” air compressor (which drew in excess of 13 amps) with no difficulty (though the output waveform was slightly distorted under load-see photos). In addition, I used it to power a stick welder to weld using 3/32 inch 6013 rod. There was adequate power to successfully complete the weld. Other than the sound level, the lack of 240 volt output and the fuel consumption the only other major concern was the note in the manual that after 50 hours the intake and exhaust valve clearance needs to be checked and, if needed, adjusted. There is no additional instruction supplied so it is expected that one will have to purchase a separate engine manual or take the unit to a service center. As many will buy this machine to have on hand if needed for a power outage and after a severe storm one could easily operate the machine in excess of 50 hours, the need for a 50 hour valve clearance measurement/adjustment will require that you rack up 50 hours of operation before the unit is needed for an emergency in order to make this measurement/adjustment.

DeWalt a name that is associated with quality products. No matter if it's tools or a generator. DeWalt is a name that is synonymous in the industry for quality. This generator is made by Generac for Dewalt which also is a name that is synonymous in the power generator industry for reliable generators. The bigger the watts on the generator usage, the longer run time at 50% power before refueling. In other words if you run the generator at half load (in this particular case 2 divided into 6500 watts = 3250 watts) you will decrease the fuel consumption by about half. The generator will not have to run at maximum speed to produce a continuous 6500 watts. That is why if you plan on purchasing a generator, always purchase a bigger generator in terms of wattage than you will need. This will decrease your fuel consumption by the generator and you'll be able to run for an extended period of time on the same amount of fuel. Living in South Louisiana along the Gulf Coast, we experience hurricanes often. This generator will allow me the peace of mind knowing that the size of this DeWalt generator will allow me to know that this generator will meet my most critical needs after my power has been knocked out and knowing that the DeWalt name is behind this generator. This generator will allow me to keep my refrigerator and freezer (packed with seafood) continually working and keeping my family comfortable in the hot and humid Louisiana weather. One thing to remember, when using a generator, plug-in one appliance at a time to keep the generator from spiking. All appliances have a capacitor which kicks in when first starting the appliance. This draws quite a bit of wattage from the generator. The capacitor is used to to start the unit and once the unit is up and running the capacitor will disengage and the unit will be running normal. Once this is accomplished the next appliance can be plugged into the generator outlet. Repeat the procedure for the next appliance. This procedure will keep the generator from spiking and shutting down. This DeWalt generator is packed with many features that makes it practical and versitly for a portable generator. DeWalt uses two words to define their array of products "GUARANTEED TOUGH" and that is the truth!

The Dewalt 4000-watt portable generator that I've been wanting and needing came yesterday. Upon assembly [which is very easy following the instructions], I've placed it in my garage near the outside door and my freezer for convenience. If another hurricane comes through here [like Florence and Matthew did in recent years and knock out the electricity] I'm ready! This generator is just perfect for what my needs are during an outage. It's portable on wheels which means that I will easily be able to roll it outside for safety when it's running. This unit by the DeWalt manufacturer also came with a starter bottle of proper engine oil designed for this generator. While I hope that I don't experience an electrical outage ever again, realistically it probably will happen sometime. I am so pleased with this new unit and how well it ran for its test run yesterday. Thank you to the DeWalt company and I will be recommending to all my friends that they too purchase this generator!

I am comparing this new Dewalt generator to my old Generac 7000EXL that I purchased in July 2002. This new generator has so many new features - both safety and user convenience. From a safety perspective, the CO Protect auto cutoff system is a great addition. The never flat tires and the hour meter which tracks hours of operation are great user friendly additions. This generator is rated at 6500 watts but is capable of generating an additional 40% starting capacity. This is a great feature since most electric devices require considerably more wattage to start than to run. This particular unit does not come with an electric start - which would be nice - but it did start on the first pull. True to the Dewalt brand and color scheme, this is a good looking generator (see attached picture).

The unmistakable yellow and black color associated with the name DeWalt the step above quality in tools and generators. DeWalt teamed up with the step above manufacturer of generators Generac to create this heavy duty generator. Living in Louisiana along the Gulf Coast, we are prone to hurricanes striking our coast line. I needed a generator that I could depend upon when I needed it. That was the reason I chose the DeWalt 4000 watt generator. This generator is packed with features you would expect to find on a Dewalt product. Has 3 total 110 volt receptacles. 2 of the receptacles are protected by 20 amp resettable breakers are double receptacles( total of 4-20 amp) and one 30 amp resettable breaker. Has a low oil level shutdown, has a built in carbon monoxide detector that will shutdown the generator in the event of carbon monoxide build up and comes with a hour meter that tracks hours of operation for scheduled maintenance. Is equipped with a 223cc engine, a fuel tank that holds 3.4 gallons of gasoline. This gasoline capacity will last roughly 10 hours of runtime at 50% load and less time with full load of 4000 watt usage. The surge watts at start of the generator is 5000 watts. I've learned the best way to determine wattage need for any particular appliance is to check the voltage used and the amps on the info tag then multiply the volts X amps (example 115 volts x 5 amps = 575 watts). Some appliances will spike at a higher wattage needed such as a freezer or refrigerator or an air conditioner when the compressor of that particular unit cycles on. The DeWalt generator is warranted for 3 years from date of purchase and covers any defects due to faulty materials or workmanship. MADE IN THE GOOD OLD USA!!

Well, here is another excellent product from DeWalt. This Generator is great. It came in a big box that had a few dings in it, but the generator did not have any damage because it was packed so well. Assembly was simple and took only a few minutes. I checked to see how easy it was to move and found it to be well balanced, so even though the unit weighs about 100 pounds the handle provides enough leverage that it is doesn’t seem like more than a 30 pound lift to move the generator. I started and ran the generator for about 30 minutes with my Rigid vacuum cleaner running all of the time so it would have a little load to see how it performed and it worked great. The generator isn’t quiet however, considering it’s 4,000 watt rating I think it is very acceptable. Anyway, I got the generator in the event there is an earthquake or tsunami that leaves me and my neighbors without power. I don’t think under those circumstances we will be too concerned about noise. Just a little tip: If you want to generator to start on the first pull after you add oil(provided) and put in the gas, be sure the run/off switch is in the run position.

This DeWalt 8,000-Watt Gasoline Powered Portable Generator DXGNR8000 arrived from Wisconsin in perfect condition! The shipping box is double walled and was unloaded to my furniture dolly, making movement to the carport, removing the box sides and installing the wheels and frame feet very easy. The base unit weights 183#, but is very mobile with the lift handle installed. Fit and finish is excellent, construction rock solid and all directions easy to follow. It took me about an hour to remove all packaging, install the wheels\feet and add the lubricants and fuel...ready for it's trial run. I added 2.5 gallons of gas to the tank, as I wanted just a few hours of loaded run time to break in the engine valves and seats and test the generator performance under various load conditions. The battery came with a 13V charge and the engine started in less than a second on the first crank and ran very smooth with no load. As I have natural gas for home furnace, range, stove and water heater, my large 240V needs are just two 3-ton A\C's and an electric dryer. I figured with power management between those 3 large electric needs, this DeWalt Generator, with it's Start-Up Surge power of 10,000 watts, should offer me whole home performance...well, I was right!! With installation of a Thomas & Betts (My el. distribution panel mnf.) ANSI NFPA 70 approved "Mechanical Generator Interlock " kit and a proper NEMA L14-30 coded 240V receptacle and connection cord, I hooked up the generator and was able to power my whole house. The DeWalt generator ran a consistent 122V and with my normal home load {2 refrigerators, 1 workshop A\C, 75% of internal lighting, home entertainment system and various low power 120V computers, ups-supplies and home security systems}, never went beyond 30% wattage meter load indication on the generator control panel. Keeping "one unit off", I was able to start-up each individual home central unit (have two 3-tons) and let them cycle through our living or bedroom side comfort levels. With both A\C units turned off, I was able to power our electric dryer on medium heat. Any one of the our three 240V usages brought the generator load to 70%, thus never attempted to power more than one at a time (power management). Through all of this testing (average of 50% loading), the 2.5 gallons of fuel gave me 4 hours of run time, thus for us, the 7.5 gallon capacity should deliver close to 12 hours of continuous home use! I especially like the Safety CO (carbon monoxide) detector sensor that constantly monitors the surrounding air quality and will initiate shutdown if levels go beyond safe breathing concentrations...Very Nice!! Wish this unit had a cumulative hour meter for maintenance scheduling, however I don't find that a deal breaker...I just simply log in the hours used in the owners manual! In total, this portable generator package seems to have been well engineered and when the need arises, we'll have lights on in-the-house in short order!!!

I got this generator to replace an old 7550 Generac generator that I bought around 2004. This new generator has so many great features that my old generator did not have - and it is downright pretty !! (See the picture below.) It has an overall better design and layout than my old generator - it is so much easier to get to the various components. It has "never flat" tires and it has a run time meter that shows the total hours on the generator and how long it should run on a tank of gas based on the load. It also has a wattage meter that shows the percent wattage being used. For safety, this generator has a CO Protection Shutdown feature. This generator generates 8000 watts and 10,000 starting watts. This is a great generator !!

I received my Dewalt DXGNR 4000, it was easy to assemble and get started. The fit and finish are top notch. It features 4 20 amp receptacles and 1 30 amp 120 volt camper style receptacle. these are shipped with no engine oil, but they include a jug of oil that MUST be added before starting the engine. The wheels and folding transport handle make moving the generator easy. Mine started on the first pull the first start and all starts since. A 4000 watt capacity is a midsize generator. I would recommend this model.
