Received product on April 9th. Cutting wheel was tested to cut rebar to replace a metal rail on a garden trelis and also to grind off some old welds on a stand. Cutting wheel was used with a DeWalt 6" electric grinder. It would have worked better with a 6" cutting wheel instead of the 4.5 wheel. The 4.5" wheel wears down much faster than a 6" wheel would (blade changing time).
Works very well for small home projects, but for any type of commercial work they wear down much faster.
I decided to finish off my unfinished lower level. As a part of that project I installed galvanized panels onto portions of the walls, ceiling, and bar front. I used the DEWALT 4-1/2 IN. X 0.045 IN. X 7/8 IN. METAL AND STAINLESS CUTTING WHEELS to cut the panels to the appropriate dimensions and to cut the necessary holes for outlets etc. I found the wheels to do an excellent job cutting both the long runs and the smaller, more intricate work. They lasted well and produced less spark than expected. I am happy!
I mounted a DeWalt wheel on to my angle grinder and made a sample cut on a square tube of aluminum, I know the wheel indicates metal/stainless but I assumed metal also included aluminum. I compared finish from a cutting form an old wheel which was also intended for metal. The old wheel is 1/64th thicker than the DeWalt wheel. The DeWalt wheel cut through the aluminum effortlessly but the finish was very similar to old wheel. It is possible that the finish may be due to my cheap grinder vibration. I have not tried to compare stainless cutting results, a future project. See attached photos
Pros: Easy to Use, High Quality of Material, Looks Great
This is a 4.5" grinder cutting blade by DeWalt. It is thin 0.045" thick. You can do some very precision metal cutting with this. Check the specs of the product for how thick you should expect to cut through. I used it to cut a metal threshold. Like butter. No issues and very little sparks. I understand that isn't a very robust metal, but it did the job in less than 10 seconds. Very happy.
Pros: Easy to Use, High Quality of Material, Durable, versatile
The .045 metal cutting wheel has been my "go to" cutting wheel for many years now. The thin kerf makes for a much faster and cleaner cut than the .125 wheels with much less effort and heating of the metal. The Dewalt .045 cutting wheel is a top quality cutting wheel that nicely cuts through steel, stainless steel and even tough alloys like tool steel.
