Time will tell, however it comes rolled up in a box and it's real thick so you just cant roll it out and it lays flat. What I did was roll out one side and put a brick on one end , then roll the other end out and a brick on that end. I did this in the hot sun and it was 99% flat in an hour and ready to lay down. I don't suggest using this on a thick pile carpet, this is made for a low pile carpet. Since I am 6'4" and weigh 235 pounds, the wheels from my computer chair sink into the plastic mat, but not much , and once you get up, the indentations from the casters of the chair the mat will spring back very quickly ,it doesn't seem to affect rolling around on the mat. The little grippers on the bottom sink into the carpet and stay in place. This will not work on a hardwood floor since the little grippers on the back are about 3/6" long and come to a point. The mat does taper down on the ends all around the mat. Only time will tell if this mat will hold up. There is a small amount of odor from it at first but it was gone after a few days. I do recommend this mat and the price was reasonable.
