I needed a tool to put serial numbers, weight, and my makers mark on parts I make for rapiers. I had been using a pneumatic grinder but no available burr was small enough to do the job well. The "engraver" (it's not, really, but that's the subject for another essay) does these tasks nicely. It's controlable and easy to use. For the uninitiated it could take some practice to get the fine control down but it does what it's supposed to do. Home Depot had it at the best price I could find online.
As a custom leather craftsman i have been using Dremel Engravers for over 15 years. Recently we decided to replace one of the older tools. I ordered one from The Home Depot. It came in very good time and was put to work on arrival. The difference between this new tool and the others was amazing! QUIET,POWERFUL, WELL BALANCED, AND GOOD LOOKING. I will be replacing my other 3 Dremel's sooner than I need to.
Powerful, Easy to Use, Sturdy, Accurate, Good Size & Weight, Quiet, balanced, good looking
This is perfect for engraving personalized metal name tags. When you buy it, make sure you find the 'bit' that comes with it. I almost threw mine away, because it's in the clear plastic cover that is holding the engraver...hard to see, but it's there. I'm sure some people have thrown it away accidentally, because another reviewer said they didn't get one.
I also ordered the Model 9929 Dremel Diamond Point (for 290).
Durable, Easy to Use, Sturdy, Good Size & Weight

I was looking for a good engraver for engraving on my stainless steel tumblers with my business logo. I have had another one by another company and it quit working and it had a fixer engraving bit. Now this Dremel engraver came with a removable bit with I find was an added bonus! It has worked very well on my tumblers and it also worked well on hard plastic tumblers after I had used it on the Stainless steel! Great product!!
I think the quality and value of this tool is good as well as the value and being made by Dremel I was able to use some of my other tips in order to put a "signature" on my wood pieces. It might be me but I had a hard time with the engraving; much depends on the hardness of the wood but overall it only worked okay for me. I ended up purchasing a burn in signature stamp that works better than this tool for my purposes. Maybe I'll find another use down the road. I would recommend this for those who have a steady hand and a good deal of patience.
The engraver itself is excellent. The packaging is most user unfriendly. Included is an engraving bit but nowhere in the packaging or the instructions what number bit it is. There are 47 listed possibilities. The buyer can guess.
