All drill bits are not alike. This one is one of the best you can buy. 7/16 is a pretty good size hole especially in metal. This bit handles it without any problem. I used the bit on wood and steel. It drills the holes without much effort. Drilling in steel of course is harder and a little longer. Take your time, apply firm pressure and keep the rotations on the slower side and it will do whatever you need it to do. The reduced shank is a bonus too. It handles the job like a pro.

I have been attempting to make a mount on my boat for over a month. I'm using a piece of two inch angle iron. My drill bits are supposed to be titanium. I think I ruined about ten of my bits. They get so dull trying to drill three eighths size holes. They get half way through and then just spin and get hot. I got this steel black oxide drill bit and I'm amazed. It drilled through 2 holes in 30 seconds. I think I'll order a whole set next payday.

The 7/16 drill bit worked well to drill clearance holes for 3/8 screws and it is also the correct size to drill the hole for tapping 1/2-13 course thread in metal. It worked well and stayed sharp while drilling the metal ( I also used a coolant to keep the drill bit from getting to hot). The 3/8 shank made it possible to be used in the common battery operated drill motors.

I used the bit to make holes for a bee house. I never did this before but my wife wanted several made with different diameter holes. I used juniper pieces from landscape timbers I had. This bit did the best job of the three sizes I was using. It was sharp and did not over heat. I used a larger bit made for drilling wood that got hot and I had to change bits. This bit never over heated.

I love this bit!! I was asked to install a porch swing at a clients home. I get to the house and there was a steel I beam that i had to work with! I asked if they wanted it at the end , middle or other end. They wanted the west end, so i looked at the couple( they where on the heavy side and the kids also). I put a 3/8 metal plate under the arm rests, both sides. So it was wood, tube metal then plate. This high speed steel Black and Gold ate through the wood , tube metal and plate and i did not have to push it through!!! It almost walk it's way through!! The steel I beam was like butter!! I got the eye bolts in, no problem. i told the folks it would be 2 hours to finish. Well i made an hour pay for nothing!!

Best feature is that this reduced shank works well for smaller drills 2.Like mostly because it fits the Ryobi Battery Drills that I currently have 3 Have had for a little over 3 weeks 4. Yes, this drill bit meets my expectations because it drills clean, snag free holes and I would highly recommend.

A high quality bit for the price. These drill bits don't "walk" as you start drilling your holes. They also have less heat buildup than many of my other drill bits do. The finished holes I drilled were very clean cut and did not have to be deburred. The 3/8 inch shank fit into my small chuck drill so I don't have to change drills when working on my projects, which helps to save time A quality product for us DIY'ers.
