I purchased this kit to replace another an old rain barrel that cracked. With the exception of the diverter and valve (my old one has a larger bore), I did use the rest of the hardware. I am a little skeptical of the rubber bushing that the valve and drain plug screws into, but after a month in service, no leaks. The fact that the kit included hole saw bits, made the assembly job easy. Performs as it should. I am pleased with my purchase and would purchase again.

Handy rain barrel for our herb garden
Easy/quick to assemble, although when full it can weigh almost 400 lbs and raising it high enough to flow requires a sturdy support. We like rain water to water our herb garden which is in tubs at waist level for easy maintenance. I did alter the valve assembly slightly to suit my own installation and it was easy.

Rain Barrel
I purchased this so I could water my lawn in between rains as I don't have a sprinkler system and city water gets expensive. Extremely easy to set up, and it fills up quickly. My only issue is the pressure of the water coming out. I have it set up on a 2 foot cinder block pedestal, but if I hook up a hose it just barely trickles out. I haven't tried a soaker hose yet, that might work, and of course it works just fine to fill a bucket or watering can, and to rinse my hands after yard work.

DIY Rain barrel
I just finished installing the diverter, spigot, and bottom drain. It was very easy. The included instructions (can also download from HD) are well written, very complete, and diagrams are easy to read/understand. I spray painted my barrel to match other colors I've used on my patio. The barrel and kit arrived in perfect condition. I'm super pleased with this system. My only complaint is that the spigot is plastic. I've seen the same diverter kit sold elsewhere with a stainless steel spigot.

Rain barrel bundle
Installed this system last week, just in time for the rain couple of days ago. The installation was easy, the package includes all the necessary parts, except of course for the drill, screw driver. I like the clean looks, not having to cut out a section of the gutter, and the fact that the water will return back to the gutter when the barrel is full. The one surprise was that the barrel did not get filled up during the rainy day. I am not sure why. The barrel just filled about 1/5 of the way. My gutter is 2 " x 3". The only reason I can think of is somehow the rubber insert into the gutter is not seating properly inside the gutter, or is too large for this size gutter. Or perhaps this particular gutter is just not getting a lot of water collected.
I also have another rain barrel but is the open type, and I have to cut off a section of the gutter to install. Between the two barrels, like the closed barrel more.

Rain barrel project
The barrel kit works well in the system that I have. I have two downspouts that I changed to 1 1/2 " PVC that fits into the two plugs in the top of the barrel. I water our potted plants and vegetable garden with the water. It collected over 10 gallons in a light rain last week.

We bought two of them and they were easy to put together and install. I do live in the northwest so it was not long before we received some rain. I checked the next day out of curiosity and had already received enough water to open the spout. I'm very excited about this purchase and would highly recommend it for an easy DIY project.
