I installed this ecosmart 18 to feed to of my bathrooms that were furthest away from the main water heater. It used to take almost 2 1/2 minutes to get hot water now it takes 20 seconds. I installed it myself was very easy for me to do. I am a electrician that probably helped because I think the electrical part of it would be the most difficult part of install. The plumbing was very easy just used the shark bite fittings this way I don't have to do any soldering. I would recommend to everyone

BEST WATER HEATER EVER, UNTIL THE NIGHT IT WASN'T. I bought one of these EcoSmart tankless heaters about 2 years ago and really liked it. For 2 years it worked just as advertised and up to that point I would have given it 5 stars and recommended it to anyone. And then one night, in the middle of the night, with no warning, it failed spectacularly. It overheated, ruptured, and caused major water damage. It was located on the 3rd floor and it probably took me 5 to 10 minutes to get to the main shutoff and get the water turned off. I replaced it with a different brand and went to the expense of relocating the new one down to ground level. You can see the melted PVC all the way to the right in the picture.

Wow, now not having to worry about our water tank leaking 50+gal all over the basement and 5hrs of cleanup Again...a real Bummer Just to get the hot water tank removed out we had to take out the old furnace, because there was a support post in the way the old washer just to get to the hot water tank alone... Once we did all that mounting, wiring and had to re-due the pipes for there location was the hardest part with 4 more hrs of work, it only took 20min to install to the wall and to complete the wiring to the panel 26' away, plus I decided to install the the newer stainless steel flex hoses for the hook up all this took only approx 1.5hrs to Install and have this up and running, very, very easy to do and I really like the fact that if there is any leak I installed shut off valves on both cold in and the hot water out just so I can bleed the lines if needed and still run everything in our house if this goes down or have to change out the elements would be a breeze and not have to purge all the lines again,....Taking up space...None at all Totally out of the way I wish I had done this yrs ago. I had asked about these a few yrs ago and all the plumbers told me they cost well over $4,200+ depending on the size... I got an estimate to replace the same Rheem 50gal tank at the cost of $1,600 + $100 for a permit + Tax Total for the same headache = $1870.00 My total cost: Unit ECO = $401 Plumbing +pipes, fittings, shut off valves and stainless hoses= $262 Total Cost I did all the work and I'm 66yrs old Total = $ 663.00 Far cry from the 3 estiments that I was quoted of $4,500+ Wow I really recommend you doing one of these easy to adjust and to wait a few weeks to get this but the wait was worth it...Now I don't have to be down on the floor moping up water anymore, Not to mention the space I saved....Jim S

This is not an 11kw unit. It has two 6500 watt heaters and is pinned for 13kw. That being said, it works well. They force you to use compression fittings and the water meter is one with one of the compression fittings. Of course mine had a burr on it. Had to polish and buy more fittings then Teflon tape it to the max to make it stop leaking. I have an eco 18 also and like them both. I would really prefer the Eco 11 have standard pipe fittings instead of compression. Much fewer issues.

Works Ok for my camper, with some flaws.
I purchased this for my camper, and installed it to replace the factory propane one. The 2 flaws with the unit are the compression fittings and the way the load "pulses" rather than being a constant load like the Stiebel one I installed in my house. Other than that I have plenty of hot water.

Small, takes up no space, works great heats up fast enough. Had a electrical surge and it blew the fuse inside the control panel, $3 and fixed and control panel does not get zapped. Its just a 25A glass fuse and hot water is back on. Just fyi turn the breakers off before changing fuse, figured I would just say it lol. Will be flushing the tank soon to descale.

Seems to be working as it should,a little more expensive to install then a tank type but should be worth it in long run.Saves much space that I moved location from my crawl space to 1st floor where it is easier to get at and maintain.

Bought this water heater to replace an old tankless one. It is easy to assemble. Once turn on, we have hot water in seconds, faster that the old one. The temperature adjustment feature is awesome, and more energy efficient.

I bought to replace an older electric tankless that we had utilized for about 9 years that was having a few issues. Rather than invest in repairs, the price of the new EcoSmart made the decision to replace easy. We purchased the 36 KW model on sale thru HomeDepot.com. It arrived quicker than I expected and the install was easy. With sharkbite fittings plumbing is now easy for even a weekend warrior like me. The EcoSmart works perfectly. Reviewers who complain that it won't work because of power demands should not downgrade the product. EcoSmart fully discloses the necessary power requirements. Read before you buy. This unit is much simpler and better designed than our old unit, probably due to technological improvements. Highly recommend.

Two Issues: This is my 3rd purchase. My previous Eco18s failed for the same reason. The 1st stage heating elements burn out. The first unit's heating element lasted 2.5 years. The second unit's heating element lasted almost 2 years. Researching Eco Smarts reviews on the various sites selling their tankless water heaters show that their heating elements burning out within 2 years is a common problem. My second unit's burned out heating element will not come out of the manifold preventing replacement. 2nd Issue: Customer Service has steadily declined since I purchased my first unit 5 years ago. When the second unit failed, it took two days to get through to customer service. Then customer service gave me a direct line to order the new element once I removed it from the manifold to confirm it was indeed burned out. It wouldn't come out and I called, leaving a message & sent an email explaining the problem. I replaced the unit while waiting for a response. I never got one. This was the last straw. I'm finished with Eco Smart!

The 36kw I installed for my whole house and it was good for about 9 months. Over time I was getting less and less water till it just stopped. The thing is that for some reason something inside the pipes are sounding really weird and I assume it is the material that raps the element heater inside the pipes. I took it from the wall and shook it out and you can hear and feel all these "things" moving inside. I did everything I could to remove but they didn't put any valve to release these small particles to avoid this nightmare. When you first turn on the shower the machine starts working like it should and in less than 10 seconds you won't have water AT ALL. These little things are forced to move due the pressure of the water coming in and will block the flow of the water right in front of the outside pipeline. Why I didn't claim the guarantee, right? I did a great job installing it by myself to save a lot of money for the unit instalation. I can do anything with electricity and plumbing, but I don't have a license, so they said they won't honor the guarantee. So sad I chose a wrong product. I hope someone can have a good idea that this product is capable to take from you several hundreds of dollars plus plumbing installation fees and electrician installation fees as well. Thanks.

Original H2O heater died. Was looking for a while and stumbled on the ECO at HD (on line only around here, kind of sad they don't have one to see). Only 2 of us in the house so it's working fairly well. I reviewed all the on-line information available and usage charts. It takes a few seconds longer than a tank water heater but it supplies hot water at a constant pace. We actually turned ours down as it does really get hot. Older heater was also electric so install just needed larger breakers. It's mounted on wall behind where the old tank was. Few months in so far, The ECO 11 is not very large after looking at 40 gallons of constantly heated water.

Replaced an 11 Year old American Heat Tankless water heater with this ECOSMART tankless and so far so good. Easy to install, but again, replaced an older tankless so most of the pipes, wires, and hardware were already there. But, did add the GE filter to it and used a bunch of Sharkbite fittings and hose to finish it off. I put the filter farther over to the right because it's easier to get at from there when we need to change the filters. I like the digital display on this unit, the old tankless didn't have that. I have it set at 125* and get great hot water in a 3 bed 2 bath 1200 sq ft home in Seminole, Florida. Unit is mounted in the garage above the shelf where the old tank water heater was years ago and It takes about 35 seconds to start feeling the water getting hot. That's pretty much the same as the old tankless. It's only been about a week, but so far we're very happy with this. May update as the time goes on or if we have any problems.

Works good only thing was shortly after installing (2hours) the unit would not come on. According to troubleshooting section of Manuel it suggested there was a lack of water pressure. After letting it sit a couple or so hours it began to work and has worked flawlessly since then.

The plumbing was easy to connect. The owners manual was confusing when it came to wiring. When the owners manual says it requires 3x8 AWG it means 3 runs of 8 gage wire, not the wire labeled as 8 AWGx3. Other than purchasing the wrong wire, installation was easy. The unit provides plenty of hot water.

The unit is provided with adapters that allow hookup to a half inch pipe. BUT, the adapters first attach to the unit by way of a compression fitting. Don't make the mistake of using the adapter and compression ferrule as supplied, it most certainly will leak and leak badly. You must cut a small length of half inch type "L" copper tubing and insert it into the ferrule to support it from being crushed out of shape. ECOSMART , in my opinion, screwed up by not including the right parts with the supplied adapter. The store employees were not aware of this little problem, but tried to be as helpful as possible.

I own a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. With a family of 4, this little water heater provides more than enough hot water for us even with 2 showers going and washing dishes. Saved roughly 15-18% on my electric bill since going tankless. Don't know if it's the new water heater or if my old one was just that bad. Very easy to install considering it was my first time. Tip:use both PTFE tape and PTFE sealant compound to make water tight seal the first time. Was just using the tape and kept springing leaks.

First off I am not a plumber haha but I didn't have a bit of problem with the installation. However, I am an Electrical Engineer and wiring it was very easy for me. I recommend mounting the unit as close to the breaker panel as possible to save wire. Wire is expensive. My old water heater is six feet from the breaker panel. I was able to mount the tankless between the breaker panel and the old water heater. By doing this all I needed was about 20-feet of #8 2-conductor with gnd and 1 stick of CPVC and a few fittings. I plumber the output of the old water heater to the input of the tankless. This gives me a backup if I need it also if this winter I can't get the water temp up to where I need it I can supplement the tankless with some warm water from the old water heater. It took me about 5-hours to install it but I also drained and flushed my old one. After flushing the air out of the lines I powered it up then set the temperature at 120° F. The tankless Ecosmart 27 KW worked perfectly. My service is 200 amps and is about 10-years old. We have not seen any blinking of the the lamps in the house and we have florescent, LED and incandescent filament bulbs.

Easy to install. Takes up little space. Heats water to the temp you want. Really love that feature. I can turn it up if I want a hot bath or turn it down so Grandchildren don't turn water on too hot and burn themselves. Love it.

After an excessively high estimate for a tankless water heater from a local home service company, I had lost hope for getting this type of power saver anytime soon. Then an acquaintance suggested I buy my own water heater and hire the plumber and electrician myself. After doing my research, this heater met all my requirements. Using the manual and specifications posted on homedepot.com, I had all the info necessary to hire my installers. The old heater was removed and this one was installed in less than a day. The cost was half of the first estimate. I continued to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and had a flow regulator installed. If the water flows through too fast, it doesn’t have time to heat properly. I added the proper faucet aerators and a low flow shower head for more savings. My tank heater was gas fueled while this heater is electric. I made the fuel change because city codes would have required that I replace sixty feet of gas lines with a larger pipe. My electric bill has increased by about two dollars a month while my gas bill has dropped by more than half. It is still a great win! There is a short delay after turning on the hot water, just like my other heater. Then the water runs hot as long as I need it. The 18kw works well for my one bathroom house. I have set the heater at 125 degrees. It works well for the washer, dishwasher and faucets. I actually turn it down before my shower. It was too hot and it seemed stupid to mix in cold water, if I was paying for hot! It is easy to adjust the temperature at the turn of the dial, if you are concerned about children or elderly guests. Remember, you aren’t heating a forty gallon tank so you can change it to suit your needs. I gave the heater four stars instead of five because I could not find the EcoSmart flow regulator for sale anywhere (including HomeDepot.com) and had to find a different brand. I would have liked more than a five year warranty, but my plumber explained that my existing heater only had a five year warranty and was filling with sediment after only three and a half years. Replacing the EcoSmart will be simple when the time comes since the plumbing and electrical is done. But, I hope it lasts a long time! I am pleased with the product and the savings.

This is not a DIY project but it works great. Requires 3 individual, 220v, 40a, 8ga circuits so we had to run new wire. Warranty is not valid unless licensed plumber and licensed electrician does the install. Also, when it’s running, LED lights will flicker.
