Shutter panels are lightweight and easy to hang. They look like they are made from a substantially heavier material once they are hung so they are very attractive. The black color is very rich. The only thing I would change is to include heavy screws rather than the plastic plug-type hardware especially if you are hanging them on a stucco surface. We went to the local hardware store to get concrete screws and then spray-painted the screws black to match the shutters. Ekena offers a variety of sizes so we were able to get the exact right size for our various windows. Our previous shutters from Ekena lasted 15 years before fading.

Not the exact size as stated! We ordered these paintable vinyl shutters to replace shutters which had dry rot. We needed to match the exact size of the shutters we were replacing as there was siding surrounding the shutters we needed to keep. When I received the shutters, I painted them, and prepared them for install. Once we were going to install, we realized they didn't fit. The shutters measured 18.25 x 53.75. Now we need to replace and recut the siding surround these shutters to make them fit. If they were 18 x 54, which we had ordered, we would not need to do the extra work and buy more materials to finish the job.

The vinyl shutters are relatively well constructed. It still amazes me that the cost as much as they do. The measurements were spot on and they arrived damage free. The biggest tip I can pass along is that if you plan on painting them yourself, even if you specify "primed", prime them again. Use a primer specifically for vinyl (Sherwin Williams has a product for this application). The two coats of quality paint that we applied was still tacky after four days of drying. While installing the shutters it was very easy to scuff/chip the newly applied paint. The paint didn't adhere well at all. Very frustrating. I should add that the paint worked very well on our front door. If we didn't have to match the door color, I would have bought them painted.
