Okay, if you never encounter ice and just use this to shovel snow it should work fine for years. I, unfortunately, tried to lift a chunk of ice on my second time out. Broke more easily than any shovel handle I have ever had. Usually the blades break and I am left with a fine handle, but not this one.
Be patient when you send a note to Emsco to take advantage of the warranty. Comes as no surprise that the person handling replacements is swamped. After a week or two I received a very pleasant return email with instructions on how to get a replacement handle.
Even though this shovel will be back to work by next Winter, I am back to searching for a snow shovel that will handle whatever chore is needed to clear the front steps. This isn't it.

Due to age and our bad backs we are always looking for innovative show shovels. This one sounded promising but is plagued by its flimsy design. I our case it only lasted one session. It was used by my wife last year when we had our first significant snow fall. She relatively small, about 5 ft high and a little over 100 lbs. So she doesn't put a major strain on a snow shovel. However the spiral guide broke at the bottom where it is secured by a screw leaving the handle useless as it is no longer secured to the handle. I sent a picture of it to the manufacturer but have not heard back from them. So thumbs down due to poor construction and poor customer service.

I have a version of this shovel that I purchased about 3-5 years ago. The plastic bottom of it was getting pretty worn, so I bought a new one for this winter. The design combines the best of ergonomics & flexibility. The two little knobbies that hold the flex handle in place snapped in the sub-zero temperatures this morning, leaving me with a new, broken shovel with only 5 shoveling days in. The snow wasn't even heavy or packed. So now I will go back to using my old, worn shovel of the same model & try to figure out if I can switch parts on the two.

I had to replace my original same shovel after 8 years. I love this shovel with its adjustable length handle. Yes occasionally the hinged lever drops because the nubbies do not hold it securely so I used a strip of Velcro and tah dah, solved. I hope this one holds up as well as my original one. So far, with 2 snow storms it performed flawlessly. Im glad it’s made of heavy duty plastic because it does not scratch the limestone on my front steps.
Breaks easily

I bought two. On the first, the plastic scoop cracked where the handle goes into it. My girlfriend used the second, and the first time she shoveled snow, the ergonomic handle snapped off where it's connected to the threaded part of the handle.
The design is good, especially being able to rotate the shovel while holding the ergonomic handle, but it is so cheaply made that it breaks very easily. If it were made of stronger material, it would be the best shovel ever.

This was very comfortable to use while it worked. I had two. On the first one, the hole in the scoop cracked where the handle goes in, and the scoop fell off. On the second, I was extra careful, but the secondary handle snapped off at the pivots. It's a great idea for shovel, but it's so poorly made and delicate that it useless after only a few uses.
