I primarily use this inverter for keeping my laptop charged up while on the road. It has four USB outlets which come in handy for back seat passengers during extended road trips. USB power output is 2.4A per port which is plenty to charge up a tablet or a portable battery. I was hoping to use this to charge my power tool batteries while on the road, but the manual advises against this - not sure that I fully comprehend the reasons why, but it is what it is. So far I've had no issues with it. The built in fan is very quiet during operation and the unit has not shut down on me at all or otherwise failed me in any way. The body is plastic, which helps with the weight, but might be prone to breaking if dropped or hit. Won't be a problem if permanently mounted to your vehicle. I'm not a fan of the way the power cable attaches to it. The two terminals stick out about 7/8" and there's exposed metal around the positive terminal. Recessed terminals or a plug would have been nicer. The included cables are about 20-24" long which should be sufficient for most users. Given these last few points, this is not a bad inverter any any means.

I got this inverter to help with device charging during the fairly frequent power outages we have to live with. Two days after I got this we had a major wind-storm come through so I got to test it right away. First off, it worked great. The multiple USB ports allowed charging some devices like rechargeable lights and batteries, and tablets. The AC outlets worked well for higher draw loads like a computer or cellphone fast charger which draw higher amps than a normal USB. Given that it's 500 watts I'm sure you could plug in a power strip and even power more. The setup I have is a 40watt briefcase solar panel connected to a small 25Ah battery which is where the inverter gets connected. This worked great but in a pinch (or at night) I'd get out my bigger battery to support the loads longer. In the picture the inverter is the small box below the solar panel. The only drawback to the inverter is that the plastic part of the case feels like it would crack if you dropped it. Otherwise, I was very happy with its performance on its first use.

I am so glad that I have this. This device powers up to 6 items at once. The inverter is super quiet and does not make hardly any noise when its on. I was surprised to find 4 ports for USB type compatible items which comes in handy in the car. I also like that it can be plugged into the cigarette lighter as well as attached to the battery. It makes it super convenient. I like that I can put my tool battery charger on it while working on sites that have no power so I can always have a fresh charged battery. The continued AC power is 500 watts which is nice. The peak load is 1000 Watts. I did notice that the housing for the inverter does get hot sometimes so you have to be careful where you place it so it doesn't melt or catch anything on fire. The power switch is very easy to access and the green light lets you know when its on and ready. This is a very handy device to have in the car for not only tools but computers or USB powered item. Glad I go it. We will see if the Energizer Bunny keeps this tool running because Energizer made it.

A nice compact inverter that gets the job done for most typical uses. First off, I like the compact size. It fits in my small toolbox which I keep in the trunk. I only need this for camping, or occasional long trips when I want to run the laptop frequently. Otherwise, it is easily stored away. Both cigarette lighter cords and battery terminal cords are provided. You need to go directly to the battery for the heavier loads (above 150W or so). I wish the cords were a bit longer, but then again, that would cause a power drop, so it is OK. My only dislike is that the spade connections from the cords leave a bit of metal exposed on the DC side. This is not a safety problem since it is DC, but could cause a bit of spark or fuse blow if accidentally shorted with a hunk of metal in the car. It would be nice if they were covered, and from the cigarette lighter cord had a banana connector that was hidden. This doesn't apply if you pop the hood and go to the battery since everything is exposed there anyway. Other nice items are all the overload and smart shut off sensing. Overall, a nice find! The size and feel of this inverter is good. Feels well built. You can power up multiple things at the same time. I particularly like to use this when we have power outages at home. I also own a really old Mustang and it provides me electricity to do multiple things other than a normal cigarette lighter. I mainly use this as back up power make sure that whatever you plug-in has the proper rating for this inverter or it won’t charge properly. You don’t want to overload it. not a main source of power. I also like that this unit will perform an automatic low-voltage shut down at the vet battery voltage drops below a certain amount The in-line fuse is not required to operate the inverter but it is recommended to protect the battery this inverter does not have built-in battery you must connect it to a 12 V battery of your choice for the inverted to supply AC power.

The Inverter is working very good for me. I built a 11 foot tower and put a 500 Watt Wind Mill up for my wife. The wind mill I bought from Missouri Wind and Solar.com Keeps all our out door decoration L.E.D. lights working. No more bill Electric bills for the Holiday lighting. I store my power in 4 Big, deep cycle batteries, takes the 12 Volt power into the power inverter and makes me 120 Volts for my lights.

Perfect little inverter for your car. I got this one to replace another unit I had that was a little under powered for what we needed. I had a 300w but it wasn't enough to power a baby bottle warmer when we would road-trip with our son. This one handles it fine. The other thing I really love is that it comes with alligator clips so you can use a bare battery instead of a cigarette lighter if you want. This, I use when we go camping so we can charge things and power things in our tent. All in all this is a great device with plenty of features.

It does what is says but be sure to understand what you want to use it for and ensure all devices are well under 500 Watts. Instruction manual says an 80 Watt device will run for 4-5 hours. Charges laptops without any problem. Even runs a Crock Pot. Imagine a road trip and having a roast when you get there or making a pot of whatever while car camping. Other reviewers say they have been using this to charge Power tool battery chargers but instructions say not to use it for this feature. I would not attempt it for long term use. If all your tools are of the same brand just get the DC version of the charger. Charger is more but the cost of batteries will more than make up for it.

This is a very nice compact inverter. I cannot stress the importance of it being compact as I got it for use mainly with my Jeep. There isn't a whole lot of room for permanent storage of items but this inverter is so useful for charging up USB devices, like batteries, phones, walkie talkies (which go flat with frequent use, as well as my Notebook. With my computer in the field I can keep track of sports events and use ranging programs, GPS's etc. for sports shooting competitions, trajectories etc. The total package looks and operates great, and came with all wiring necessary to hook up to my cigarette lighters, as well as a direct connect to my 12v battery. Which I use to charge up li lion batteries for remote control cars that I race and just have fun with. I use the same types of batteries for my airplanes, so this device is a win win for me. I Highly recommend this item and I am sure I'll find even more uses for it,

This is a serious power inverter in a small package. The housing is well-vented with a fan for cooling and four tabs to bolt it down by. It has two three-prong AC outlets and four 2-amp usb outlets. A mechanical on/off switch rounds out the package. It is not hard-wired, and comes with a choice of lighter plug and battery clamps, which are more realistic if you are really going to draw 500 watts off it. Or you can make up your own wires. Output is a modified sine wave, not a true sine wave, not surprising at this price point, but good enough for most electronics. Most devices should run off it without a problem.

This ENERGIZER EN548 500-WATT POWER INVERTER 12V DC TO AC PLUS 4 X 2.4A USB CHARGING PORTS TOTAL 9.6 AMPS is an AWESOME back up for home , camping or car. Coming complete with Cigarette Lighter connection cord, battery cables, and 4 USB ports, as well as plug socket, it can power up to 5 items at once, including, but not exclusively, Laptop, televisions, fans, gaming consoles, radios, etc. 500 watts of AC power, with a 1000 watt peak load, it is a great workhorse.

    Great inverter
I have been using this inverter for almost a year now. Pros It is very quite, the AC power outlets spaced away from each other also I didn't had to change the fuse so far like I did in other inverters. The four 2.4A USB ports can charge any smart phone or device without any problem. Cons I always have to tie the nuts that hold the connectors in the back because they keep go loose I even lost one of the nuts once and I had to go to Home Depot and get a replacement nut that is M7-1.0 also from use the connectors in the back can break but that is very easy to replace. Finally this device doesn't has a DC power outlet like some other inverters do wich is very useful. Overall this product is great and I do recommended over other inverters.
