This worked well for me, although when I began to fit it to my 1/2” pipe, it was a VERY snug fit, and I was wondering whether I would be able to mate the parts. There is not much tolerance for error, so if your companion fitting is not completely smooth and perfectly round or you lack sufficient space for a good trajectory to mate the parts, you could have some difficulty completing this installation. Fortunately it did work fine for me and it was easy to solder when properly cleaned and fluxed (see pictures).
