They require quite a bit of clearance so you will generally need to notch out the gate or the post to make room for the latch, and the screws that come with them are a bit bigger than the holes and not necessarily appropriate for all applications, so you may need to bore out the holes or use your own screws, but once installed, these latches work GREAT. SO SO much better than standard gate latches. These are all I will ever use in the future.

This is the 3rd one I've bought the bar that goes in the latch has bent each time to the point it needs to be replaced. The bar metal is too soft and bends too easily. Never buy this latch!!

It is unusual to find the right product to replace something purchased over 10 years ago. My fence gate latch broke and Home Depot had the exact replacement available in stock.. What a pleasant surprise.
