My toilet was running constantly. I have a BlueSource HydroRight Dual Flush Converter installed. This valve worked well with this. It was easy to install with an older toilet. And there are several different instructions for different types of toilets and systems. I am female with a low level of knowledge of plumbing but a high compulsion to do things cheaply. This fill valve did its job.

I've replaced maybe 25 of these in our multi family rentals. I can do it blindfolded now :) I always have at least 1-2 spare ones in my tool bag. 1. Shut off the water supply behind the toilet. (you may run into a problem here since a lot of shut off valves don't work when you need it to. If so, shut it off at the main water line) 2. flush the toilet 3. unscrew the water supply line going into the toilet(if the line looks pretty old, now is a good time to change it out) 4. optional- shop vac any remaining water out of the tank, or use a couple towels to drain it 5. loosen and remove the nut holding the old fill valve in place. clean under and above the exposed hole 6. insert new fill valve with rubber gasket inserted on top. 7. tighten at the bottom and reattach the supply lines, turn on water supply, adjust the black stick on the fill valve for water level(it's pretty cheap feeling so go easy on it)

IF YOU ARE IN A HURRY AND ARE REPLACING THE EXACT ONE, JUST TURN OFF THE WATER AND PULL THE UPPER PART OF THE OLD UNIT OFF. THE NEW ONE WILL SLIDE BACK ON THE OLD LOWER UNIT. YOU CAN REPLACE ONE IN LESS THAN 1 MINUTE. (I WOULDN'T DO THIS FOR A CUSTOMER JOB.)

  • Toilet tank won't fill? This is your answer!

I bought this to replace an exiting Fluidmaster 400A that stopped working. For anyone that is curious as to what my problem was - the toilet tank would only refill if the water supply was shut off and turned back on - obviously something was wrong with the inlet valve and I tried cleaning it out per Fluidmaster's recommendations but no luck. However, when i took it out, sure enough the rubber washer attached to the inlet valve had corroded somehow causing causing it to malfunction. I bought this replacement 400A and had my toilet back up and running in less than 20 minutes.

  • Universal fill valve...very good, compact design!

Like many, I had the older fill valve with the float ball. The rocker part on top of the fill valve cracked, and was letting the water run. This new style, compact fill valve is very easy to install. There are lots of vids on YouTube if you are not sure about something, but really it's not hard to change the old unit for the new. The only pointer I would give is the make sure the line on the fill valve is 1" above the top of the water tube. If it's too low, you will here the water trying to refill the tank. It's all in the directions though!

  • Defective valve

There are not too many choices when it comes to toilet fill valves, and FluidMaster is certainly a commonly-stocked product. They definitely have the design down to a science, and I've used quite a few of this model over the years. The trouble is that when you have a problem with a toilet and drive to the store to buy a valve, install it, and find that it's defective, it's terribly inconvenient to have to go back and get a replacement. This is an example of poor quality control. You're better off buying two and returning one after you finish your repair.

Pros Easy to Install, Good Instructions, No Leaks Cons very cheaply made, inconsistent quality

My toilet is not old but the valve just gave up since it was slowly draining water out so I just changed the valve and now back to normal. it was easy to replace, I didn't even need tools best of all. It is quiet and its all plastic so I know it will not rust.

I use Fluidmaster 400A toilet tank fill valves as the replacement tank fill valve on all my toilets, home, rental & commercial. More expensive brands do not deliver easier installation, quality or value for money.
