This product has been on my roof for three years and is working fine. The one challenge that you will need to watch is in the installation process. The cable remembers the coil from being in the box. This will keep it from laying as flat as you would want it to be if you start at the wrong end of the cable. If you have the time, take the cable out and uncoil for a few days first.
The kit provided all the things necessary to complete the job including a good set of instruction for you do- it - yourselfer's DIY. For a residential application the product is perfect. I used the same brand and style on a project 10 years ago and it is still performing as designed. Dependable brand, reasonable price... go for it I say.

I had ice dams forming in my gutter above my porch so I loosely placed the cable in the gutter and plugged it in for a few hours to melt the ice. I went back later on a clear day and did a proper install. I only plug it in as needed because it seems to drain quite a bit of power. My only gripe (and it's very minor) is that the brackets used to attach the cable to the shingles don't hold very well as the are. I had to bend the little barbs out with a pair of pliers to get them to hold—a minor inconvenience. They still work fine.

This heater does does help keep the ice out of my gutters. Had a pretty heavy snow and ice just after installing. Did not plug in right away. Got a lot of ice in the gutter and ice cycles hanging on them. Decided to plug the heater in and within a short while, water was dripping down the downspouts and within a couple of days, the ice had cleared. I now plug them in with a fresh snow fall and my gutters drain off and stay clear without the ice cycles...
Wonderful heat cable kit! I have it on my roof and down into the gutter. I have combined it with an outdoor GE switch that runs on Wink. I have it on a schedule to turn off at night when it's really cold and then on at sunrise until sunset. It has worked great. They come with plenty of clips for the roof.
