The result is tons of clean spot-free light for a reasonable price and at incredible efficiency. My daughter who is the fine baker in the family is loving the two lights I've just installed.
If found this product in one size at my local store, but the size I needed wasn't at any store in New England. Shopping online did the trick. This seems to be a Home Depot exclusive, and although branded by GE is made by another company using the GE name. The lights have a lifetime warranty from the maker, though I hope that with so many individual LEDs I could run it with an LED burned out without even noticing.
I struggled trying to figure out how to hide the wiring, considering Wiremold to hide either bare conductors or Romex. The store clerks didn't know either. Online discussions led me to know that I really need to protect the wiring inside the cupboards, so plain Romex wouldn't do. But when I opened the package and read the instructions, I finally understood that when the box said "armored cable" they truly meant metal-clad MC cable. The light comes with special end fittings that are designed for MC cable, so not much else would work.
I found MC is a bit hard to work with, and it looks a bit industrial. But I find that nobody will ever notice the wiring under or inside the cupboard. And although each connection to a J-box took some time, overall it was simpler and cheaper than all the fittings I would have needed in Wiremold.
It was a bit hard to take the unit apart to access the wiring, and to reassemble, which requires squeezing one metal piece until several tabs disengage with the outer metal casing. You really must do this with your thumbs, because it's an awkward shape, and most any tool would scratch the paint.
I like that you can use a dimmer, though I won't because we love the great amount of light for certain tasks. I like that each one has a switch, so I can switch them on as a group and then isolate which ones I need. I like that the fixture is hardwired rather than plug-in. I like the light color which is on the "warm" (redder) side, but would possibly prefer a whiter color if they offered options, because that might better render the color of foods such as cake decorations.
