Just 2 small screws hold the inside twist lock mounting plate to the outside mounting box. Although connections to the actual twist, lock are pretty secure and heavy duty.

Once installed it's sturdy and functional. Installation was fine except the writing of the actual socket. They use Allen screws ( fine, just different). I had to loosen the socket from housing to access them ( also fine). However, when tightening the lugs it was apparent the threads were not chased, or maybe just not formed. It was extremely difficult to thread them on order to clamp the wire. I backed off one grub screw and immediate regretted it. The screw was captive and wouldn't start threading. Fixing this one screw took an extra 45 minutes, basically doubling the install time. If the terminal lugs were simply threaded before being sent this would be a 5 star review. Also, tip while installing, see the photo below, remove the cover plate, flip it out towards you, re-secure ( upside down), then thread and install your wire. This let's you get the right strip length and bend on the wires for installation.

Used for my portable generator setup to power the whole house, But you must have a interlock for the main breaker , or you could kill a lineman. the interlock can be a slide interlock ($75 you install, If you're qualified) that bolts into your current breaker panel, or a full manual or auto interlocking switch in a separate panel $300 to $1000. This box is just a good cover to plug your generator into. You can have it plugged in and close the lid fully. If you're not fully comfortable get electrician, But easy install if you're comfortable/skilled with electricity.

It's bigger than expected, but made a great connection point for my generator. I then wired 5 outlets in the house, only for generator power. Our "lights out weekend" testing everything went very well. If you can't afford a whole house generator system, this is a nice piece to making some necessary preparations for when situations are beyond your control.

I looked at several generator inlet boxes and found this to be the overall best value and quality. It is well built and allows you to cover the plug and cord during inclement weather. I would rather have something over designed than just the minimum. Especially during a emergency situation.

The power inlet box is well built with heavy wall enameled steel. It is also well designed, note that the outlet is installed at an angle to prevent water infiltration when plugging in the extension cable in the rain. Also note that the extension cable can remain plugged in with the cover plate folded down, protecting the connection from the weather, the cable extends out of the bottom of the box when plugged in and the cover closed. Finally, also note that the cover door can be locked in place with the extension cable connected; notice the tab for a padlock that extends through the cover plate on the right side. All in all a first quality product at a reasonable price.

This is a serious piece of hardware. It will certainly last a long time and won't get damaged if a baseball hits it. I need to think of a way to keep bees out of it, though.

When using solid 10-gauge copper wire in this box, it is important to have plenty of working length so that the wire can be folded correctly inside the box when re-inserting the receptacle / plate. The clearance between the receptacle and the rear of the box is a bit tight at the "fold" point in the center. The cover does not seal the box in a normal manner when the generator cord is not connected - - it may be prudent to cut some foam or similar material to stuff into the slot to prevent bugs building a nest.

The best inlet to install. Plenty of wire space in the well-made enclosure. The "plug" is made by Leviton, the yoke is steel.

This is the second home I have installed this power inlet on. It is of good quality and rugged construction. Easy to install. It allows the cord from the generator to be plugged into the receptacle in such a manner that it essentially hangs almost vertically putting no stress or sharp bends on the cord and plug. The box cover can be closed when the cord is plugged in so it is protected from the elements. However, this same feature creates a relatively large gap between box and cover at the bottom of box which allows little critters like spiders to easily take up residence which is why I gave the box a 4 rating. The box is easily cleanable though if that does happen.

Too pricey, not weather proof when in use.
Door doesn't close completely when cord is plugged in. At $180, I expected better.
