Completely junk. I’ve wasted better money
I’d give it less stars if I could. Worked for a week then didn’t ever again. Bucket has never seen a drop of water. Does not do anything but light up. Going with HOME LABS. I need a refund ASAP

We are so sorry to hear of your experience with this dehumidifier. We strongly encourage you to contact your retailer for replacement options.
    Disappointed
My unit worked for two full summers and now this year the main panel does not function. I’m off switch. Turns the unit on and off makes the entire screen go dark, but the unit continues to run. I am very disappointed with this GE product and will probably never buy another.

We are sorry to hear about your control panel going out. We suggest trying a quick electronic reset. This can be done by removing the power cord for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in. If this doesn't work, we suggest getting in touch with our service team for support. Still going after a year of continuous use
I have a second home in South Georgia that I visit every other month. Needed something to run constantly to reduce mildew and mold. This helps tremendously. Have it set in the den with a drain hose. The house is 2300 square feet. I keep it at a relevant humidity setting of 40 and we have not had any mold or mildew issues since I purchased it in February of 2022. Keeps the entire house from smelling stale and stagnant.

This equipment was easy to set up, literally push button and go. Immediately we could feel its efficacy and high capacity to dry up the air in our Minnesota basement. It is a beast and it is NOT too loud when compared to other units we have had. If you use it on your apt. or main floor well perhaps yes, but IMHO this is just the thing for avoiding humid basement during the snow melt. The standard hose connect eliminates the need to empty out the water collection bucket, so this has basically been running on auto-pilot since day one.

I'm happy with this purchase. It dried the basement out really quickly and efficiently. It's really quiet. It does not come with the drain hose. And it's plug doesn't stick right out. So it's only a slight challenge as I have 2 plugs like this and it's a little forced.

        Replacing after 12 years!
I purchased the 50 pint model almost 12.5 years ago and it was going strong until recently (don't know exactly when it died, but within the last week). I live 200 feet from the river and our house was built in the 50's, so it ran pretty much continuously 9 months out of the year since April of 2010! Can't complain about that!

          Lasted three years
This lasted three years. While it worked it was fine. This year it started running (the fan as least) but I started to get a musty smell in my basement and the humidity level was reading sixty percent (I set it at forty). Finally inspected the machine and found it totally dry inside. After giving up on it I tore it apart and found severe rusting by the coils. I don’t think something designed to be wet all the time should be rusting. I bought another dehumidifier but it wasn’t a GE.

            Heats Room
I have owned a 70 pint GE humidifier for three years and decided to purchase two more for other areas of the home. Much to my surprise the 70 pint was no longer available but this model was reflected as the replacement. Thinking it would work similarly, if not the same as, the previous model I purchased two. These units have removed some moisture but have ended up raising the overall temperature in the entire house by 5 degrees, after running them in conjunction with our 4 portable a/c units for the entire day. My 70 pint model blows slightly warmer air than the room, however no where near the same heat as the two new models. When we reached out to GE customer service we were advised this is normal but they can be returned to the vendor, which I am sure will be another battle. Do yourself a favor and forgo purchasing these units as they act more as a heater than a dehumidifier.

Bought 3, all broken just outside of warranty!
I bought three GE "ADEL50LW" from Home Depot. No wonder it's not carried anymore. Do they change the model # as soon as enough bad reviews show up? All three worked well for about 6 months. Then the tanks started filling up despite the hose being firmly attached. I drilled a hole in the tank and installed my own hose! That worked well for about another 6 months or so. I made sure to clean the filters as recommended by the manual. Just outside of the warranty, all three are completely dead. Oh, they make a racket and use a lot of electricity, but not one drop of water taken out of the air. I will never buy a GE dehumidifier again and suggest you learn from my mistake.

Hi there, thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear about the issues that you've had with your dehumidifiers. We can understand how this would be frustrating. We would not recommend making adjustments to your appliance's physical or electronic makeup as this could void your warranty. We hope that we can work hard in the future to earn your trust back. We're always here should you have questions or concerns. Best wishes. -Michael@GEA GE_Appliances

Failed after 9 months of service - AVOID
I purchased this GE Dehumidifier about 20 months ago and have used it for a approximately 9 months of service. It recently stopped dehumidifying after a coupe months of beginning to struggle to reduce humidity. I could hear the tell-tale "cracking" noise of ice forming, indicating that it was low on Refrigerant. Then could hear the compressor cycle off while the unit would defrost. I took it apart and found that the evaporator coils were freezing up due to low Refrigerant. I sprayed bubble leak detector on the evaporator and could see 2 spots where it was leaking. I've posted a picture - where you see it foaming is where it is leaking. I'm beyond disappointed that GE would produce such a low quality product and then only warranty it for 12 months. Until GE steps up and addresses this issue, I would recommend you avoid purchasing a GE Dehumidifier. And Home Depot should take a look at what's going on and stop selling these products.

                  Worked for 1 year
Worked great for a year. Then would only turn on fan and not pull any water from air. Shuts off after running fan for a little while. Beat reviews come after people own item for a while. Had I reviewed as soon as i bought it would have gotten 5 stars.

                    Please Read
My 2017 GE 70pt ADEL70LR, same internal components, has been running strong for 3+ years from May thru October each year. I bought the extended 3yr Warranty based on some horrible quality reviews, and I highly recommend buying that for $40ish just in case... Basically due to EPA standards all Dehumidifier manufacturers use cheap thin metal nowadays for better thermal transference, hence, more energy efficient. Of course this elevates profit margins too, but diminishes overall quality of all dehumidifiers... I believe my GE Dehumidifier has stood the test of time because: 1) I keep it clean 2) I don't fiddle with the buttons... I run it in Continuous Mode 1X a day until the bucket fills. That way it's Not Power-Cycling on/off during run time and power-jolting everything. I've proven that theory with 10 yr old strong running computers too by leaving them on all the time. This is truly a powerful dehumidifier; it fills the bucket in < 12 hrs on a humid day. It is rather on the loud side because of a strong fan, and changing fan speeds make little difference in noise level; I do not hear compressor noise, just fan. It'll get my medium sized basement from 50%+ humidity down to 35% in just a few hours. I also have an external humidy guage and it's spot on with the built-in GE humidity guage. I do recommend this powerful GE unit... just buy the Extended Warranty because it seems Home Depot's no question return policy isn't so great anymore. 1) Keep it Clean 2) Run it in Continuous Mode 1X a day until bucket fills. If you use drain hose just turn it off a few hours a day. 3) Make the exception for this dehumidifier and buy the extended Warranty. Take a picture of receipt too and email the pic to yourself if you're like me and lose the receipt after a month...

                      Unit quit after one Summer
Had this unit in our basement (appropriately sized) for the end of one Summer and worked fine. The following Spring this unit only turns on after unplugging and plugging back in, but only the exhaust fan. Unit no longer collects water and just sits shuts off shortly after plugging it back in. This is sad and I won't caught buying another GE appliance -- for this isn't the first GE appliance that we've had that failed.

I purchased this unit on 5/30/19 and it worked properly for one summer (5 months). The unit failed on 6/20/20 (three weeks past the 1 year warranty expired. As others have stated, this is absolutely ridiculous for a $300 unit. Do not waste your money on GE. Look elsewhere

                            Does not last
This unit worked well for the first year, but then it stopped working. Seems like it stopped working right around warranty expiration. It will turn on after I unplug and plug the unit back in, however it will not kick itself back on when the humidity increases above the set point.

One season out of this and then until stopped working
This unit was great for the first year, and then it stopped working, right outside of warranty. It will turn on after I unplug and plug back in the unit however it only blows cold air and no longer pulls moisture out of the air and collects water. For $300 I paid that for a year. I had moisture control folks come and they recommend a unit with a 5 year warranty called "WatchDog 550" which I'm looking into. It's more money but has a 5 year warranty. Doesn't look as "modern" but I don't care, I just want something that works and isn't cheaply built.

                                    Died within a year & a half
Worked fine for first year and a half then died. Fan works but no longer collects water. Spoke with GE and they told me I'm out of luck and would need to spend $99 just to have them send someone out to look at it. At this price point, you would hope to have a more durable product.

We bought this dehumidifier because we are finishing our basement and our waterproofing company said the humidity level i our basement was high. The drywall mud wasn’t drying very fast due to humidity. When I plugged this unit in, it showed that my basement was at 70% humidity. by the next morning, after emptying the unit four times, the humidity is down to 50%! I am truly amazed at the volume of water this machine is pulling out of the air! Very happy with this purchase and the features that it has!

I will not buy again. The pump did not work. I received a replacement - it worked OK for 2 years. Then the freon leaked out through corroded coils, the unit does not remove humidity anymore (even though the compressor and the fan are running OK). I would expect a device like this to last at least 5 years.

We live in a Northwest marine climate (Puget Sound) where the weather tends toward higher humidities year round. In the Fall to Spring seasons when we heat the house and the windows and doors are closed most of the time, we get moisture condensation on the cool inner surface of the windows if we don't dehumidify the air. ( The indoor humidity will be 70% to 75% if we don't dehumidify.) So for years we've used a 50 to 70 pint per day dehumidifier at a central point in the house to keep the indoor humidity at about 50%. There is a through-wall drain so we don't have to empty the collection bucket. We've had several brands over the years and have found that they are built very much alike and all tend to have corrosion issues around the condenser coils and compressors that will fail after 2 to 4 years of use. That used to be a little upsetting, but we've now accepted that that is what to expect from dehumidifiers in this price range. This GE dehumidifier was purchased to replace the 4 year old GE that had a compressor failure. It's very similar to the old one but is now black in color instead of white. It looks a bit better nestled in among our house plants and is slightly more quiet than the old one. Overall it's a good choice for us. We'll see if this one lasts for any more than 4 years before it fails, maybe we'll get 5 years from this one.

Love the GE Dehumidifier. After reading other reviews I decided to give this unit a try. All the reviews mentioned how quiet the unit is. I have tried other companies that offer a built in pump and every one of them became really noisy after a week or so. This unit is super quiet and even standing beside it you can't tell the pump is operating. We have a condo on the beach and really need to keep the humidity under control to avoid mold in the condo. Relative humidity is down 20% or so since purchasing the unit. If you need a quiet and efficient dehumidifier that offers a pump for continuous operation I highly recommend this dehumidifier.

Like another reviewer said, this dehumidifier only lasted 1 1/2 seasons before rust on the cooling coil caused the refrigerant to leak out. What a disappointment. When it worked, all of the features had me smiling. Now at the start of season 2, it's junk. What a shame. No more GE products for us... If you are considering buying a GE dehumidifier, do yourself a favor and buy something else unless you like throwing money away. You've been warned. GE, are you listening???
