We installed this outside near intake water to house as we live in Florida. We attached a water filter 1st inexpensive $50 unit from Home Depot . Install in afternoon used all pvc fitting . After month of use , wow what a difference with our water. Shower soaps up quicker , no itchy skin after, hair is silky , hands and face feel better. Our 2 labs dogs also give this 2 paws up! Super value easy set up , we added 4 bags of salt and now we are good for 265 days before refill. Look no further this is a super unit for under $500 total installed far better than we found comps anywhere else.

  • GE Water Softener
  • January 27, 2020

The water softener worked well for the first year, then at the 15th month the seal between the tank and the valve broke. Left my garage full of water and water damage to my wall. I called GE help desk and they told me it was past the warranty and gave me the number to a technician. I do not recommend this product since it only last past the warranty.

18 months in the enitre control panel failed. GE's local partner for diagnosis will not repsond. GE's only idea in that case was for me to find somone else to diagnose the probem (at least $150) and then GE would sell me the replacement parts. Awful quality, awful support. Never again GE for any products.

  • Lovin' my water softener

So far it appears to be doing what was promised. Water feels great and I am using less products for washing dishes, showering, laundering, shampooing, etc. The water softener unit is sleek and looks like it was custom fit for the area it is in.

Pros Easy to Clean, Easy to Use, Convenient, Looks Great, Takes Less Space, Nice Design, affordable

This unit failed after 1 year and 4 months, with a main valve leak. This is not covered after 1 year. Save yourself some grief and some money, but a more expensive brand with a 5 year warrantee. Very disappointed with GE service, and their poor products. Do not buy this product.

This softener was easy to hookup. After spending a little bit of time getting my existing input/output connections to match up, I plugged it in and as easy to program and has been running ever since. It does its job with minimal maintenance. This is my first experience with using and replacing a water softener (I moved into a home with an old, broken 20 year old beast I replaced with this one). This isn't the biggest one rating for my family size and use however, it did match the dimensions I needed for the replacement. So far, its basic program is working great without running at 100% all the time. I like the 'days to empty' reading which can help me plan when to refill.

I have had this softener about two months. Since then, it has not cycled automatically. I have manually recharged the unit once. I spoke to a customer service person using the number provided in the manual. She was less than helpful, in fact rude. Her suggestion: raise the hardness number. I realize that the overall rating for the unit is high and that is one reason I bought the GE. I will give it another month and see haste happens. Incidentally, GE dropped my review and did not run it since "it did not meet review guidelines"!

I purchased this water softener three years ago (2015) and it broke down and backed up all of the residue beads into my plumbing and appliances, toilet, bath tubs, and sinks. I contacted GE who informed me that warranty does not cover this problem and they referred me to local contractors who would remove the softener and clean up the mess. It took days, and (hours of time of a paid plumber) to get rid of the residue. Had I know this would happen, I would never have purchased it.

  • Want a softener that works well?

Soft, soft, soft. I love it and wife loves and son loves it. I set my hardness 25. NICE. The higher the hardness is set it regenerates more often. Making water so soft. Pour oil all over your body and imagen how smooth that feels and Slick too. WELL that is what my softener is doing. Not with oil LOL but with the salt. Not hard to install. I went with the main IN and then out to HOUSE. That way everything is soft. The digital monitor will show average gallons use per day. I use on average 150 gallons per day. That's 3 of us and using washer, refrig, sinks, etc. Love it, truckerich

Pros Looks Great, Convenient, Nice Design, Easy to Clean, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, Light Weight, all works well and no problem on the install. Cons leveling on a unlevel floor.
