I purchased this water softener three years ago (2015) and it broke down and backed up all of the residue beads into my plumbing and appliances, toilet, bath tubs, and sinks. I contacted GE who informed me that warranty does not cover this problem and they referred me to local contractors who would remove the softener and clean up the mess. It took days, and (hours of time of a paid plumber) to get rid of the residue. Had I know this would happen, I would never have purchased it.

Water softener did not work after one month. I contacted GE customer support unit and was given a name of a service technician and was never called back. Called customer support again for other technicians and I have never received a call back from the 2 technicians customer support gave me, therefore there is no warranty on this product if no one will repair the water softener. DO NOT BUY, awful customer service and no warranty.

Very happy with this water softener so far, especially compared to the older one I had at my other house. This one has only recharged twice since it was installed 5 weeks ago, so it's using LOTS less salt. I'm satisfied with the quality of the water, and noticed faucets and sinks looking cleaner after only a few days; using LOTS less soap and laundry detergent too. I was worried that the noise of regeneration would wake me up at night, since it's on the other side of my bedroom wall, but I haven't heard any noise at all--my older unit was terribly loud. Very happy & glad I looked at the reviews here -- saved me from buying a more expensive unit.

The online purchase process was easy. Delivery miss a day due to my address being new. Installation was super easy. And most important...compare to its cousin (the Kenmore brand) the footprint/rectangular shape of the GE is much slim. I recommend this unit if you have reduced space to install it.

I purchased this product 10 months ago and it is leaking from the bypass valve assembly. I am trying to work with GE warranty to get this situation resolved but so far no luck. If they honor the warranty I will update this post, but for now, I would not recommend this product.

We installed the unit in a full basement, new construction, however, there are no floor drains. So, the ceiling is 8' high, yet the instructions recommend the discharge tube be no higher than 8' feet above the floor?! Additionally. This was cause for some concern but we installed it as we needed and it ended up being 8.3' above the floor into existing PVC drain pipe. Works perfectly. The unit comes standard with 1" water inlet/outlets. I have 3/4" PEX piping. That took a little shopping to get the right conversion, once the critical plumbing was completed, set up and programming was spot on. The unit needs four bags of salt to begin, but now the unit says I don't need additional for 300 days! Cool. We have moderate hardness, 3000+ square feet, 3 bathrooms. It is all that we need.l

I had 3 softeners in 19 yrs. of service. Two (Kenmore) lasted 7 yrs. each and this last one (GE) lasted almost 3 yrs. Resin and light yellow slime appeared in my cold water side. I do not recommend spending $500 or this unit. Not dependable for the money.

I bought this unit to replace a 13 year old kenmore that had stopped working which I gave up trying to repair. I think the tank was shot. The new GE unit is more compact, and the water softness improved quickly once the old water was used up in the water heater. This unit is adequate for 2-3 people in a home, but I don't know if the capacity would service a larger family. So far I'm very pleased with it.

This was a snap to install. Easy to read instructions. . Past products left the timer open to salt exposure ending up with premature failure. I liked the fact that this timer was enclosed. Durability to be determined after 3-4 years use.

Pros Easy to Use, Nice Design, uses same hook-up as older model ge softners. Cons none
