This is the second GE water softener I have purchased. We have just moved to a new home in our community and needed to install a softener. They perform extremely well. Our water source meets all standards for health concerns but is very, very hard. Within two days of installation all the water system was properly conditioned.

Worked in the water conditioning business for over 30 years. I assembled softeners and had a retail store, sales people contractors lic. installers and service dept. I was going to buy a Fleck unit but decided to give Home Depot a shot. I am quite pleased.

This is the first water softner in our 40 year old home. In just one week, I can see the difference in the look of sinks, toilets, drains, clothing, etc. I ordered the softner on line and picked it up at the store. No waiting, no mess. Great job. Had a professional plumber install it for us.

I had an expensive water softener for 19 years (replaced the tank once in that time frame) and when it came time to totally replace it, the technician who replaces my reverse osmosis system filters suggested I buy this GE 30,400 grain water softener. It was much less expensive that the brand I previously had. So far the water softness quality is as good as the more expensive softener, and it operates on more updated technology than my old one. It has been only a few weeks since installation so I cannot comment on its reliability, but the salt usage is very low for a two-adult household and I am very happy with it.

This softener was easy to install and program. The only problem was that because of not doing enough research I have a softener that has too much capacity for my needs. GE used grains per gallon as a hardness scale. When I called my city's water provider and purchased my own water test, they both used the parts per million scale although neither stated what scale they were using. Because of it being too large it took a very fine hardness setting adjustment over a period of days to prevent scale build up while at the same time the water not having a salty taste. Luckily, this softener is very easy to adjust the program on, so I am very happy. My bad, not theirs.

Wonderfully efficient for Arizona hard water. We bought online and picked it up, which was seamless. We're using it for a family of 3 adults and 1 teen. Our water is so soft. It tastes and feels great and the recharge cycle is minimal compared to our previous 9 year old GE 30,000 grain unit. The only issue we had was installation; we had to buy pipe and solder since the space between the old hook up and the new was substantially different. It hadn't occurred to me that the hook up may not be universal and the dimensions weren't listed online. If I did it again, I'd measure my existing unit and compare it to the new unit before I took it home to save the additional trip for supplies. Bottom line, we love it!

This softener works well, but did not ship well. So far I'm very happy with how it's functioning. It made a big difference in our water. We were not even bothering to use our dishwasher because of the film our water left on glasses. Now they come out crystal clear! The resin tank was shifted during shipment, luckily I'm mechanically inclined and was able to take the entire unit apart to reset the tank in it's proper position. The o-ring leaked at the top of the tank as well, and it took me a few days to figure out what was going on. The brine tank was filling with water from the leak. Once I found the leak, and re-seated the o-ring, the leak went away and all is functioning well.

I ended up purchasing this product from Home Depot only because of the price of $449.99, even though when I came into the store they upped it to $499.99, and I had to email a complaint to the district office to get the lower price. Easy install if you do your homework and read and watch videos online will help a lot. All manuals for this type of units are the same. I learned not to do all install at the same time, but, install the flex lines before the purchase of the unit and buy a 1 inch by 2 inch closed screw in to connect the 1 inch flex lines together to make a closed loop for the water to be able to stay on until ready for install. Also, the manual is wrong about when you remove plastic shipping plug and wire from the valve outlet. Yes you need to unplug it and inspect it, but if you do not plug it back in, then your display will not let you read your gallons per minute on the unit, Even though I emailed this question to GE, they replied it does not need to be plugged in only for shipping, but their repair line I called said different and were right. Not sure how good this item is only been 5 days since install, but I am not going through 3 to 4, 40 pound bags of salt a month anymore like my Fleck softener I had for 10 years. And I like the way it gives you heads up on salt left until needed change, before, you found out in the shower and the hot water goes out. I have 3 bags in here and 54 days left to add more, love it.

Pros Looks Great, Convenient, Nice Design, Easy to Use, Takes Less Space Cons needs updated manual.

This unit was extremely easy to install and setup. The simple design of the bypass valve allowed me to remove three (3) separate valves which were no longer necessary. Addtionally, the size of the salt reservoir means I don't need to add salt to the machine constantly...
