  • Softener is ok, accessories not so much

Softener sets up good, works fine. No problems. Bypass valve installed with no problem. There was a BIG problem however with the purge line. They included a very hard, inflexible 3/8" plastic hose and two cheap spring clips. The hose popped off the purge valve on first purge. Covered the floor in water, filled the brine tank with nasty water. Also got salt water all over the controller board, so it wouldn't function anymore. I took the controller board out, and the motor, rinsed in clean water and dried them out in the oven. They recovered and worked fine. Then, went back to Home Depot and got a length of clear 1/2" hose, two worm gear hose clamps. After installing these everything worked great! Pretty happy overall. I suggest getting the clear 1/2" tubing and better clamps when you buy the softener and check them for fit before leaving the store.

Pros Easy to Clean, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight Cons included purge hose and clamps don't fit

I bought this unit because of all the great reviews. The first unit (Dec. 14, 2016) failed on install--cost me several hundred in installation fees to find out it was broken out of the box--took them quite awhile to figure out it was the hardware and not a mistake in the installation. I Had my handyman uninstall it and bring it back to HD, get a new one and install it...about another $200 in labor cost. Two months later I noticed my water was no longer soft and checked the softener. No salt had been used since last filling it 3 weeks earlier. Called GE customer service and went through things with them. They helped me do a manual regeneration and I noticed the LED changed the number of days remaining before a refill was needed so I hoped that had done it. Waited a week and found no change...no salt had been used and the water was still hard. The LED said there were 0 days left before it needed a refill even though the salt level was exactly the same. Going to have to return this unit as well. Obviously I wont be buying a GE water softener again. The costs to install, uninstall, install again and uninstall again are far greater than the cost of the unit. suspected it was a salt bridge that had formed in the unit. They said to poke it with a broomstick

We purchased this water softener to help with eczema issues that my wife and two of my kids have. It has made a very big difference in their lives. We are a family of five and the water softener keeps up with us fairly well. Cleaning the unit is a little difficult but the affect it has had on my family's skin is worth the hassle once a year. Installing the unit was very easy. I used a flex hose and shark bites and was done in no time. Keeping the salt level high and checking for salt bridges every time you add salt is a good habit.

Product was well packaged and in perfect condition. Installed personally, prior to installing added a whole house water filter unit and then connected the soft water filter, unit working to expectations. Water has improved 100% no more hard water, drinking water has become pleasant & showering now has improved my dry skin, being it leaves your natural body oils. I'm now saving money on bottle water fees, now I don't buy much bottle water since I enjoy my tap water. This filter for the price does what my previous rain soft filter was doing but at 3 times less in cost. Recommend to anyone who is searching for a filter. Note you must add a whole house filter prior to connecting a soft water filter.

I give this zero stars. Product failed after three months. Leaked water and salt all over the place, had a plumber come out three times and "fix" only to have it leak again once it cycled. Bought this in May, still under warranty I guess, but in seeing all the negative reviews on this product, how can I trust it won't do the same thing? Amazing to me they can still sell this unit!!!

  • Media throughout our house.

Purchased this water softener at Home Depot on 12/09 and installed it the same day. This morning 12/16 there were tiny silicon pellets in our water system through out the house clogging faucets and commode flushing systems. GE tried to say I installed it wrong (REALLY?, one way in, one way out). GE could not have a GE Certified plumber to my house until 2nd week of January. Thankfully, Home Depot did replace it.
