There are some issues with this microwave, but overall I would recommend it. The pros: the white panel in front is easy to read. We chose white as it matched our cabinets but also could have gone with stainless steel. The stainless had a black background and was difficult to read. We liked the smaller sized of this microwave, many we looked at were big and bulky. GE was the only microwave I could find that has an option to change the volume of the beeper. Many had the options of only mute/off or on. This model has mute, low, standard and high levels for those hard of hearing. The low setting volume if perfect for me, I can hear when I'm cooking but nobody else in the house hears it. The sensor for defrost and potato works well. The normal setting for cooking/heating works a bit better than the 13 year old microwave this replaced. The price was also good. The cons: the sensor setting settings for "reheat" and "melt" are not accurate at all. Even though the interior is white, you cannot see through the microwave door to see the food cooking inside. The fan is noisy and only does a moderate job of removing smoke and odors. The keypad requires a lot of pressure to get the numbers/features to work. Installation was terrible by Home Depot. There were black, greasy fingerprints all over the cabinets and microwave, it is installed crooked and one of the bolts up was stripped during installation. FYI, most of my other installations for other products from HD have gone very well. We made another appt to have the microwave adjusted and they were a no-show. So depending on where you live, you might want to check on other installation options. We installed our previous microwave - level, however at this time I have a frozen shoulder and cannot do something like this and my spouse has become disabled so we were hoping for a better install.

This microwave has a lot of features for the price, but the trade-off, as would be expected, is that it doesn't cook as well as a top-of-the line microwave. So you'll have to experiment to get the most out of it. Pros: fairly quiet (except for vent fan); two "cook times" so you can set two separate back-to-back cook times and power levels; beeper has 3 sound levels and a mute; turntable can be turned off for large cookware dishes. Cons: “Vent Fan” has two settings: 'Super loud' and 'Loud'; the “Potato” feature doesn't cook the center third of a large Russet; the center portions of meats (poultry & chops) don't cook as evenly as the rest of the portion; "Beverage" only heats to luke warm; "Reheat" gets portions too hot.

I have always replaced existing appliances in my homes with GE brand because I thought they were the best quality available, AND I never had any problems with them. That doesn't appear to be true anymore. I purchased all new GE brand appliances for my current home 1 and a half years ago in the new slate color, and liked the look very much. Unfortunately, the microwave has already died and I have to replace with another in order to match the other appliances. I just hate it when there are differing brands of appliances in a kitchen, but can't get over this failure happening so quickly. There are no teenagers to blame for breaking it, and I'm always careful about use. After reading so many similar reviews of early failures of these units, I wonder what has happened to the GE brand--are these now made overseas like so many others? Consequently, a new replacement of the same item costs much more than what I paid before, and I am heartbroken to do it over again.

The Microwave looks and works great, and I am giving it a 2 star because within a year and a half of usage, the Magnetron gave out. Not the fuse or the door switches or the thermostat, relatively easy things to diagnose and fix, but the Magnetron. Not expected of a GE product, and just out of the 1 year warranty. Very disappointing.

As others have pointed out, the control pad text can be a bit hard to read in certain lighting conditions. Not generally a problem in a brightly lit room, but rather difficult to read in dim lighting owing to the low contrast of the lettering. Otherwise, a good unit.

We put a lot of trust in GE products but were very disappointed with this GE microwave. Just a few days after the 1-year warranty was over, the microwave keeps turning on by itself whenever the door is closed. It's expensive to fix it. Don't buy it!

  • Great Choice!

This was a great choice! Has all the bells and whistles - runs quietly. I paid for the installation, but watching it looked fairly easy to install. Great value for the money. The only thing I was a little disappointed was that the light underneath is way in the back, so does not provide all the light I had hoped to my stove top.

Pros High Quality, Looks Great, Lots of Features, Nice Design

This is a good looking microwave that works well. I found it to be the best value in the lower price range.
