Complete crap
I’m sure as a product it probably does fine, if you get it where you want it and not everywhere else!! Completely useless applicator (straw). It doesn’t tighten in the can so you get it all over your gloves, plus it drips and falls everywhere. Ruined my hoodie. It was a work hoodie, but not the point. They used to have good straw applicators but the ones now are complete crap. I’m pretty confident it’s so that you end up buying the Pro version. I wish there was an alternative

    Good but not great
Always have been thrilled with this product in the past. Noticed that the 16 oz option has an improved application straw that can be closed and reopened. Fantastic I think. So I use half the can and carefully clean out the straw and the very top of the can where the product comes out. Fast forward to replacing the trim around my back door and I grab this can to prevent small bugs and creatures gaining access to my house. Go to use the can, product somehow resealed itself even though I had cleaned it completely. Honestly I was disappointed but not surprised. So plan ahead and use the whole can because you can't save it for later. Learn from my mistakes.

How to remove hardened spray foam
I found way to remove this from vinyl siding after it's cured and hard. Use Citristrip orange paint remover. Put it on thick and let it set 15 minutes. Then take a wire brush and Brilli pad to it. Takes some scrubbing, but.it does come off.

Nozzle impossible to control; buy the Pro gun instead
I'm not a contractor so I bought Great Stuff in this DIY container to seal up cracks in my garage walls before insulating. As others have said, the nozzle is extremely difficult to use; the foam either barely comes out or it splatters all over the place. I was glad I was wearing a tyvek suit. Plus, as I know from past use, if you stop partway through a project and don't use the whole can right away, the nozzle seals up and the can is useless from then on. So I bit the bullet and went back to Home Depot and got the contractor-grade Pro Gun, and containers of sealant and cleaner. What a world of difference!!! The flow from the gun is finely adjustable and easy to set up for exactly the amount you want. Plus, you can leave the gun on the can and use it again and again, for up to a month. Unless you're on a very tight budget or are much better at dealing with frustration than I am, skip a few lattes and put the money toward buying the Pro gun; the job will be much easier and much more enjoyable.

            Works well
The foam sealant works great and closing up the gaps from running copper pipes through the wall in my garage. I used this same brand but specifically for windows and door jambs recently and it is fairly easy to use. Can be a dirty job if you use too much foam. The foam continues to come out for about 2 seconds after you release the trigger. So it's best to release early before you want to end.

It won't stop, it keeps getting out!
I sealed a couple of cracks and holes in my basement and everything worked great until I decided to stop and keep it for the next project. It just never stopped, it's in my garage now and it keeps coming out, I see a big blob of gooey stuff already and I am a bit worried that It will fill up my whole garage and I won't be able to open the door in the morning.

Hi, Tim - Thank you for sharing your concerns with us regarding Great Stuff™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered with this product. Once the foam has cured, it cannot be removed with solvents and the only option is mechanical removal. On hard, smooth, or polished surfaces this may be accomplished very carefully with a single-edged razor blade. If you can see the bottom of the can and it is still within shelf life, you can return it to the point of purchase for a refund or exchange. Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant products are not designed for reuse as one-component foam cans will seal themselves shut if left for two hours or more after the initial spray. We have developed a new dispenser called the Great Stuff™ Smart Dispenser™ that does allow for reuse up to 30 days after the can is first used.

You are using spray foam wrong
Take the straw off and you have a full blast substitute for a spray foam kit. 40 cans completely air sealed my attic and cost half of what the smallest froth pack costs.

Hi, Molly - Thank you for sharing your comments about Great Stuff™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant. This product is an air sealant only and is not designed to provide any type of insulation, only block air movement from small gaps and cracks. The Froth-Pak™ Foam Insulation kit is formulated to provide insulation in your home. We do not recommend the use of Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant products in the application you have described here.

Nightmare to use - coaider Loctite
For context Im a diy’er with no prior experience with spray foam. We moved into an older house which had gaps and holes internal to the house that were letting in pests and mice. So I turned to spray foam as the solution for larger gaps where caulking wouldn’t work. I started by buying 3 cans of this stuff. Let me tell you, it’s a nightmare to work with. Why? 1. The product comes out so quickly it’s difficult to control. You end up spraying way too much then have to spend a lot of time cutting extra. 2. Because of #1 is gets all over the place. Your hands, floors, clothes...really anything around. 3. The screw on spray tube is defective. With all three cans, the product began leaking out of the underneath of that screw on spray tube. 4. Some cans barely worked at all. One I got one spray out of before it jammed up and I threw it away. Overall this product is terrible. I gave up on GreatStuff and went and got a few cans of Loctite Tite Foam. Solved every problem above. Easier to control the spray, easier to clean up, and no leaks out of any of the cans. From my experience, vastly superior product. Having said that, in fairness, i have no results yet on which is more durable. A few tips if you’re like me and want to use this stuff: * use caulking wherever possible before turning to this * It expands, a lot. You can always add more so use lightly. * Spray foam is flammable. VERY. If I had known this up front I would have gone a different route all together. * Make sure you have plenty of disposable gloves. * Keep lots of paper towel around and a few wet rags to clean up. You’ll definitely want to wipe up overspray. * Get some acetone if you’re going to want the finished product to look nice. I didn’t care about that for where I put it so I didn’t bother. Good luck.

Hi, OCDad - Thanks for sharing your concerns with us regarding Great Stuff™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant products. We are sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced. As recommended on the label, please use protection to avoid contact with skin and eyes, so please wear gloves and goggles. Uncured foam can be removed with acetone, but cured foam requires mechanical removal from surfaces. It is not harmful if you get it on your skin, but it will take time and effort to remove it. Also stated on the label, cured foam is combustible and may present a fire hazard if exposed to flame or temperatures above 240F (116°C). We have developed a new dispenser called the Great Stuff™ Smart Dispenser™ that allows for greater control and ease of use. As our retailers sell their existing inventory, they are restocking with the Smart Dispenser™ products which will be available wherever Great Stuff™ products are sold.

                    This stuff is horrible
I try to seal around items in my attic and if you just slightly pull the trigger it flows out like a dam broke. It didn't stick so once this crazy amount of foam dried it just brushed away so not sealing any air leaks in the attic.

I love Great Stuff foam and I use it for a lot of insulating projects. That 'Quick Stop Straw' though has to go! It keeps getting bumped closed when sticking the straw into whatever crevice you are insulating. Then you have to snap it back into the open position. That's bad enough, but in the meantime pressure has built up and when you open it, it splats uncontrollably everywhere. Ughhhh! By the end of the can it is majorly bunged up and won't move so I had to cut the end off to finish what I was doing. Foam is great, straw is a total fail.

Nice product although it does take time for it to set unlike the old ones that would set up so fast you could not keep up with it!! The other thing to remember is that this stuff continues to grow like the blob. SO IF YOU DON''T THINK THERE IS ENOUGH IN THE AREA GIVE IT A FEW MINUTES!! .A good tip from a Home Depot associate - Keith McCaslin which turned out to be a nice trick was to cover it with box tape to keep it from getting all over what you might be mounting over it. - WE WERE PUTTING UP A MICROWAVE - PICTURE BELOW - AS YOU CAN SEE IT STILL GREW PAST THE TAPE - SO GO EASY AND A LITTLE AT A TIME......

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, "GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant products use moisture in the air to cure. They are designed to fill small cracks and gaps with a maximum 3 inch diameter bead. For larger voids we would recommend FROTH-PAK™ Sealant or Insulation Do not use GREAT STUFF™ products or FROTH-PAK™ products to fill enclosed voids such as behind drywall or under tub surrounds; this improper use of the product could result in the accumulation of flammable vapors and/or uncured material. Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, Thank you for the feedback that you provided. Please be advised that the results you experienced with being able to re-use the can a week later by just re-opening the straw are not typical for any of the GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant products with the Quick Stop Straw technology. The function of the Quick Stop Straw is to allow the user to be able move from room to room in order to avoid messy foam drips. When used and allowed to sit, GREAT STUFF™ may seal itself shut. Please see below for a tip on how you can preserve a future can: To prolong the use of a can: before starting your project, get a long nail or pipe cleaner with some WD40 handy. Once you are done using the product, leave the straw attached to the can and do not attempt to clean out the straw. Cut off the yellow Quick Stop Straw cap. Saturate the long nail or pipe cleaner with the WD40 and slide that into the straw applicator. Store the can in an upright position. That may prolong the life of the product up to 30 days, however, it’s better to plan ahead, identify and list all possible applications before using the can.

Easy to use, but needs pre-planning & quick action, because can be used only once, afterwards, it seals itself (there's a warning about it on the label). Dos the job - seals cracks, gaps, but If left uncovered/unpainted, can be peeled off very easily (problem with young kids messing with it & just peeling the dried foam off with their fingers).

Works good. I filled a big gap underneath a sliding patio door, from the outside. It's not the prettiest fix, but it's totally effective. Stops all the cold air from seeping into the house in winter. This stuff can be tough to work with. Very sticky, and hard to remove, if not impossible. I wear disposable rubber gloves when working with the stuff because it will also stick to your hands like you would not believe.

Works great. Just trust that its going to expand like it says and don't spray too much. Its easy to trim excess when hard. Make sure you plan ahead as once the spray solidifies in the straw, thats it, you'll have to buy another.

Great solution to improve insulation and stop air flow
Hello all: We used Great Stuff foam on a number of projects, and it is a great solution to seal gaps and cracks, seal the edges and joints in XPS insulation board, fill the hard-to-get-to spaces around HVAC ducts, etc. Here are a few tips: (1) Installation: Great Stuff is a one-component foam and cures by pulling water vapor out of the air. You can double the expansion by spritzing a little water on the surface before you spray the foam, and misting some more water on the foam after you apply it. Start by testing with a ball of foam on a piece of cardboard at your home / job site. (2) Foam board: Great Stuff is ideal to seal the edges and joints in foam board, e.g. if you install XPS foam board from Home Depot in your walls or between the raters in your roof. A photo is attached of a recent project, where we installed XPS in the walls of a house on the Cape in Massachusetts, and sealed everything with Great Stuff. (3) Windows and doors: Make sure you use the "Windows and Doors" version of Great Stuff to seal and insulate around windows and doors. The low expansion rate and flexibility of the cured foam are essential. (4) Fireblocking and hot surfaces: Cured Great Stuff foam will ignite at 240 degrees F -- including the "Fireblock" version. This is significantly lower than the ignition point for wood studs. DO NOT install Great Stuff next to any hot surface, e.g. a furnace, hot HVAC ducts, canned ceiling lights, a fireplace or chimney, etc. Rock wool and 3M fireblock sealant should be used in hot areas; both are available at your Home Depot. I hope this is helpful. Mark

I am the spray foam queen
This stuff is a God send once you get the hang of it. I live in rural VT and have used this on an old mobile home and a 200 yearold cape. If I listed all the uses I've found for it, you'd stop reading because the list is too long. It came in very handy to fill 1-2 inch gaps between 200 yo outer planking, so that we did not have to ruin the history and waste good wood to cover it with plywood (see pics) Messy? YOU BET- wear gloves and clothes you could throw away if needed. If it drips on you or anything else WAIT UNTIL IT DRIES then it usually picks right off. Ladies, even polish remover does not get this off your nails-wear gloves. Expands too much-Yes, use common sense, and read the label, if you need a product to fill where that is an issue, this is not it. HOWEVER- if you need a flat surface where you have sprayed it, just trim it off with a hand saw, or any serrated tool. I've used a tiling trowel, and a kitchen knife, to name a few. Using it overhead- get as high as you can, keep the can as vertical as possible and carefully bend the tube upward rather than laying the can horizontally. DON'T break the tube off or it will burst out all over you. Reusing a partially full can- for short term, a day at the most, stick a nail in the tube right after you finish, galvanized nails will pull some dried product out with them so they are good. For long term- use a sheetrock crew and drill it in there, you will have to drill it back out, but it last for months.. Make sure your nozzle is tightly screwed onto the can or it will dry out there.

                            Too messy and uncontrollable
Sprays out of can too fast and too powerful causing too much over pour so that it clumps up in places. You cannot apply this stuff evenly making the finish look very ugly. It also doesn't stick to surface fast enough so that it drops off ceiling application and also drips down the wall when applied vertically. As you can see in the picture, this stuff falls off the ceiling before it can be applied. This stuff must be applied only downward if using it too seal along edges and even then it fills up too fast. About all that it is good for is filling up large holes and big cracks. If it came out of the can slow and steady and would stick immediately, it would be a better product.

Dear Valued HomeDepot Customer, We reached out to the MFG for more information and below is their response. "Thank you for your feedback concerning the GREAT STUFF™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant. This product is meant to be sprayed in small gaps and cracks up to one inch. GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant Products have characteristics of an adhesive and need three sides to adhere itself to. When spraying above your head in a perpendicular line you have gravity working against you. If the product does not have something to adhere to it will start to fall or drip down as noted in your pictures. If the product comes out of the can too fast try applying less pressure to the straw applicator. A good rule of thumb would be to practice on a piece of newspaper or cardboard to see how fast it comes out, how much pressure to apply and how fast it will expand. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our customer information group at 1 (888) 868-1183 or email at Dowcig@dow.com.

                            BIG MESS
Purchased to seal cracks where yellow jackets were making nest in chimney chase. Product did not come out of nozzle nor trigger straw. Product seeped out base of nozzle, like a slow flowing volcano. I used some polystyrene board to smooth product as best I could over cracks. Sealed 1/2 of the first eight inch crack. Top of can sealed close so I could not finish job even though I had prepared all the cracks I wanted to seal. Back to the drawing board for me.

                            Great Stuff Usage Tips
In the past 6 months, I have purchased at least 2 cases of this foam. The expansive and sealing properties of this foam are incredible. I've used it to seal up drafty holes in the house, around leaky air ducts and inside new walls to keep moisture and insects on the outside. I've learned a lot about this foam and have some tricks I hope you can use. ALWAYS shake the can well the first time. The foam really does tend to settle in the can and needs to be remixed for best consistency. Make sure the trigger is tightly secured. I even check it from time to time as I use it. Be light on the trigger, especially the first time. There is a lot of pressure in that can and it the foam will escape faster than you'd probably like it too if you squeeze too hard. Try not to let the foam weigh itself down. It will start to drip and fall if you get too much in one section. That's when things get messy. If you have to, wait for it to start setting up a bit and then spray some more to fill in the remaining gaps. Get the nozzle as deep into the crack as you can. That way the foam really fills up the void from the inside out. Once dry, the foam can be cut easily with a sharp knife or razor blade. I have used it as a backing for caulk or even putty before and then sanded and painted over it. If you don't use the whole can, clean out the nozzle and store it. It can be re-used later.

Too expansive for a thin crack in hollow metal!
Having used another variation of this Foam Sealant for larger cracks in a children's playhouse built for pets, I had hoped this would work for a gap in a patio frame. My purpose was to keep out water snakes and to deter brown spiders. It sealed the gap, but I made a mess doing it. After attempting to cut it down I found entire pieces were coming out. I left it messy to make it through the rainy season. I have mixed feelings about using this on the patio again. I would look for something that could be controlled to fill a targeted gap and not explode, up and down, in the hollow metal patio frame. I'm in the process of re-screening the patio, as my bad job in the photo shows. Mistake on my part for what I wanted to achieve, but it did the job, no snakes. It did not explode like that into the patio, which is good, because my pets would have eaten it.

                            Great for projects!!!
We have a group making a model of the mouth and used this insulation to make the gums. It was great because it had the texture and consistency we we're aiming for :)

                              Useless applicator
This garbage product has the most useless applicator I’ve ever used. The nozzle won’t tighten so every time go to spray some it untightens and starts to spin towards you! What garbage is this? Fix your product.
