Home Depot selling product which has active lead which can potentially leach into soil and tomato’s.

These arrived very well packaged and safe. They are wrapped in plastic and in addition they have green wire ties that hold each bundle together. I saved those as they will be useful for securing individual branches as the plant grows. Although the instructions say to put the posts into the ground first they snap on the cross members, I built them first and then tapped each stake into the ground a little bit at a time. My garden soil is soft so I could do that otherwise you can put the posts in first using a cross member as a measurement as to whereto put in each post. There are different ways to do it but mine worked for me. I like that they can be assembled around an existing plant too. Also the cross members can be moved, adjusted as the pant grows and branches grow at different heights. We have not planted yet but will this month. And when the growing season is over these come apart for easy, compact storage. The stakes feel solid and the cross members snap on and hold firmly in place due to the textured surface of the stakes. I like these and will be buying more of them, my old metal ones are destined for the recycling container.

These are easy to assemble and will be easy to store by putting a zip tie on the parts to hold them together. No large cages to find a place to store in the winter; mine were getting so bent up that they wouldn't even stack together. I have a problem with deer eating my garden, especially the tomato bushes. You can see the deer fencing in the pic. I may put pieces of the deer fencing on the tomato stakes to deter the deer. They pack these so well that there is no chance of lost pieces in shipping. But I think that there were way to many twist ties holding them together.

Easy to use, the stakes are sturdy, but the arms are a weak link. The Gardener's Blue Ribbon 5 ft. Ultomato Garden Stakes (Model # TMC3PACK ) appear to be sturdy and are easy to assemble. Start by pushing the three stakes into the ground – the pointed ends help, as does well tilled soil. It would be more difficult with dry or clay soil. The green plastic coating looks good and should protect the steel core, but time will tell how they hold up to the elements. Next snap on the nine “arms” . No tools required. It helps to clip an arm onto the first stake when positioning the second, and so on. Note that the arms are relatively sturdy, but the clips on ends break if handled carelessly. It would also help to have 12 arms rather than just 9 to provide for an additional “rung” up the 5’ “ladder” formed by the stakes. The instructions suggest moving the arms up as the plant grows. I’ll try this, but it might be difficult if the plants have wrapped themselves around the arms. And check before you buy! It may actually be cheaper to buy three of the individual kits vs this 3-pack!

5 ft. Ultomato Garden Stakes (3-Pack) - a Home Depot Seeds Program Review The packaging describes the Ultomato Tomato Cages as “The Ultimate Tomato Cage”. This is certainly quite a claim and mostly marketing but I must say that they’re pretty good! I’ve used these for several years now and needed a few more because I planted additional tomato plants this year. The three pack was great. Assembling these cages couldn’t be easier. You stick the stakes in the ground, attach the clips and you’re done! The biggest thing you really need to be concerned with is the distance between the stakes which needs to be about 12 inches. If this isn’t exact, the stakes flex enough to handle imperfect measuring. Another thing you might want to be concerned with is getting the stakes in the ground. My garden is pretty well worked and I can push them in by hand. If you need to use a hammer to drive them be very careful since the stakes are coated hollow tubing that will bend easily under the pressure of a hammer. Perhaps if the stakes were a coated rebar material they would take a hammer blow but then the weight would be considerably more. As is, they are plenty strong enough to support the weight of a fully laden tomato plant and I never had one of the cages fail. My existing cages are in their third season and still work fine. The plastic clips that attach to the stakes have not shown any effects of UV exposure like brittleness. If they do replacements are readily available. The same holds true for the stakes in case you bend one enough to it. The clips are easily moved up or down the stakes to provide the support for the tomato plants where needed. I have never needed to tie the tomato plants to any part of these cages like I need to do with a single stake, I found the stakes useful for other plants as well so if you end up with more cages than you actually need you’ll find other uses for them around your gardens. These Ultomato Garden Stakes are great for my use. They’re inexpensive and last for multiple seasons. The assembly is a snap and storage is not a problem. The stake material won’t take much hammering in but they’re very light weigh – though not so much that they won’t support a fully fruited tomato plant. The clips are easily repositioned to support the plants where needed without having to tie them up. I’m very happy with these cages.

These 5-foot Ultomato Garden Stakes 3-pack are fantastic for supporting tomatoes and other vegetables that benefit from vertical support as they grow to maturity. I have a rather small but efficient garden growing all are favorites to enjoy over the growing season. And these Garden Stakes are an important part of my perfect garden. You can adjust them over the growing season as the plants become taller you can trainthe plant and adjust the 9 arms as needed. I grow crawling plants and vegetables that benefit from these stakes. Without them I would not yield nearly half as much produce. I reach for these stakes year after year. They usually hold up for two or three seasons if cared for properly. I am a happy customer and recommend these stakes for your garden as well.

I have used these for the past 4 seasons. They have their pros and cons. PROS: They are more flexible than traditional tomato cages. You can move the supports as your tomato plants grow. CONS: They are not terribly strong. If you have vigorous plants, or allow your plants to grow multiple stalks, then it's likely your plant will start to weigh more on one side than the other, and the whole cage will be at risk of toppling over from the weight. Add a wood stake in the middle for extra support.

These are great, because you can set the support arms wherever you want. When the plants are little, you have the supports low. As the plants grow, you move them higher. The added bonus is if you don't get to your garden for a few days, and a branch grows outside of the arm, you just detach, and then reattach with the branch inside the arm. With the traditional ones, once that happens the arm plant grows outside the cage and usually gets damaged.

This product exceeded my expectations by far! I will never go back to wire round tomato cages!
