I have rentals that needs county inspections before I am able to rent them out. The private inspector that inspects my properties uses a similar type to check the power outlets are wired.grounded correctly. I bought this tester to check my outlets enabling to fix things before the inspections...this saves time and money as I don't have to organise another inspection if my outlets are found to be faulty. Plus I now use this tester to check all my houses on a regular basis as prevention is better than a cure!!!!

This is a necessary tool for my work.
For the average "Harry Homeowner" this may not be necessary, but I do lots of electrical work AND am asked to double check the work of others. GFI outlets are potential life saving devices; make sure they work properly.

Good price but dim lights.
Bought this tester to test outlets because I knew I had a bad one. It was the only one they had at the store so I picked it up, it does it's job but the lights are dim so in Brightlight it is hard to see which lights are on.

Works well, but is difficult to read if you have old eyes
I found that it was easier too use the chart in the instruction pamphlet than to try to interpret the results from the very small chart on the device itself. But overall, it's a good buy.

Everyone should have one of these!
An co-worker of mine was concerned that he kept "blowing light bulbs" in a house he recently rented. We discovered these and I bought two, one for him and one for me. While I was fortunate to find all my outlets were fine, as I suspected, he soon discovered a plethora of open grounds. This tool is easy enough that anyone who can read can use it, and quite simply a life saving device. For the money, everyone should have one of these.

A perfect tester
This tester has shown me many problems with power outlets on various jobs. The most critical one was a hot-ground reversal. I have read a lot of reviews on this item, and I believe many of the reviewers are describing THE WRONG ITEM! My Tester DOESN'T HAVE LED'S, it has VERY BRIGHT NEON Indicator lights, visible even in DIRECT SUNLIGHT. I have purchased 2 of these. The first one was NOT a GFC type tester, the 2nd one was. (I often have to test two-pronged outlets, hence the 2 types of testers.)

Good GFCI Tester
Selling our house I needed to test each GFCI outlet. This tester did the job. With the indicator lights showing the issues, the problems were easily repaired. Good price also.

Works as described
No complaints on the product itself, it works as described and trips the GFI if you push the button. It is easy to decifer what wiriring is incorrect if that is a problem using the LED lights.

Gets the job done
LED lights should be brighter, during the day if used outside it is hard to see. Most GFI outlets have a small LED lamp that should be on if installed correctly so there is no need for the circuit break button but it is useful on low end outlets.

Works well but lights are not bright enough
The tester works well, however the indicator lights are a not bright enough to see easily in a well lighted area.

great little tester
A great compact tester for a reasonable price. The short circuit (ground fault) test button is especially useful.

Great Story--Building Inspector completely confused, this tester solved the problem
During the final building inspection the inspector tested all the plugs and said he was getting very strange readings. He was worried. I bought this $8 tester and it said open ground on one outlet and hot neutral on the other. Sure enough, I had a loose ground on one and had reversed the wires on the other.
Also great for identifying all the load plugs attached to a GFI.
Buy this product if you want to easily troubleshoot electrical problems and know more than your inspector.
