I just returned from a 14 day camping/ fishing trip in the mountains of BC. I was camped on a lake in an two compartment Oz tent a 2 hour drive from the closest town. I have owned a 4,000 watt Generac for 19 years. The GP2200i performed flawlessly meeting Generac expectations.. 1) Very reasonably priced.i considered paying almost double for a competitor's product ... glad I did not. 2) Easy to handle when moving it. 3) Starts immediately every time with usually one pull with the choke "On" and then switched to "Run". 4) Very fuel efficient running on 94 octane. 5) Operated most of the time in "Econo" mode to power a 3 cu ft refrigerator (150 watt) in my tent kitchen. Regular mode would stall under such a small load (<10%) until I wised up. Two five lb ice blocks in a cooler melt pretty fast in warm weather. The GP2200i re-froze water every day in two ice cream buckets for the cooler. The cooler remained conveniently in the tent for most of the trip. 6) Very quiet ... we could carry on a conversation standing next to it. Works great charging 12v batteries, both vehicle and deep cycle for boats. Used it to recharge smartphone through USB. 7) A 12v deep cycle battery powered a 750 watt inverter to make 120v to run the frig at night if desired. 8) My truck alternator died on the road two hours from camp. I charged the battery two times before it died. All in all excellent peoduct!

It started right up after 2 pulls. It is probably the most quietest Generator I have ever used. And if you turn on "economy" it is even quieter yet. The generator weighs 48 lbs. before adding gas and oil. I used every bit of the container of oil that came with it. I had to unscrew 2 screws to remove the side maintenance door. If the oil gets low, the generator will shut off. The spark plug door is right on top of the generator and is easy to access. I don't have many outlets in my garage so I've already used the generator to run my saw, drill and radio. I've also used it to plug in my electric weed eaters, so that I don't have to wrestle with long extension cords. It's ready to fire up to run my sump pump and refrigerator when my power goes out this summer, because I always lose power several times during the summer season. With 1700 watts of power, this generator can handle almost every need of mine.

(What's this)
'GENERAC" and The Home Depot have come up with the perfect secondary generator for every homeowner ! So nice that it is small and quiet enough for you to use on your porch, or carry it to the deck. The KOOL part is that this will power up your cell phone or tablets and hot plate to cook and keep up with news and family when power is out !! Also great for RVs as it is light enough to carry around and keep you 12 volt system hot ! And power your TVs out in the woods ! I love it !! USB, 12 volt and 120 volt ports !

(What's this)
The photo shows this generator next to my 'main' generator. The big generator, which is actually rather small, is portable in the sense that you can wheel it around -- with fuel it is over 200 pounds. The GP2200i is obviously much smaller, about the size and weight of a large suitcase, with a carry handle on top. With a full fuel tank, it comes in at about 54 pounds -- truly portable. To add oil, you have to remove the side panel, two screws, for which a small screwdriver is provided. Then I stared at it for a while, as there is nothing to grab to pull it off. Finally, I popped off the spark plug cover on top, reached inside and pushed the side off. Some designer wasn't doing his job with this one. A funnel is also provided to add oil, and you'll want to save it. The gas tank is a surprisingly large 1.2 gallons according to the manual, for a run time of over 10 hours if lightly loaded. There is an on/off switch on the fuel cap that closes off the vent for storage and transport. Starting is easy, just set the control knob to choke and pull the handle, then set it to run. The unit has two standard outlets for single-phase 120v power. The available parallel kit is also single-phase, there is no way to get 240 volts. There is also a standard 12-volt outlet, which is made much more useful by the inclusion of a battery charging cable. Finally, there is a 5 volt USB outlet. One feature that is lacking is an RV-type outlet. That can be found on the parallel kit, adapters are also available for use with a single generator. This is actually an inverter/generator rather than a generator. The difference is that a generator like the one in the picture produces 60Hz AC directly by running at a constant 3600 rpm. As the load increases, the throttle opens, but the speed remains constant. This is not at all like your car engine. Even at no-load, an AC generator spins at 3600 rpm, it has no real idle. This unit generates DC, then uses inverter circuitry to convert that to AC. The DC generator head can run at any speed. If the unit is set to 'economy on', the engine will throttle down to whatever speed will carry the electrical load, all the way down to true idle. This can save a lot of fuel and noise. If large transient loads ( electric motors ) are anticipated, then set economy to off, and the unit will run more like a regular generator, never dropping all the way to idle. For a test, I used it to power a large freezer for a while. It did not even huff at that load. 1700 watts is enough to power a lot of things - air conditioners, refrigerators, lights, etc. By comparison, my 'big' generator is rated at 4400 watts split between two sides, or a maximum single-phase load of 2200 watts. With a little care, that was more than enough to power the house for 10 days after 'Sandy'. This little generator makes 77% of that, and you can carry it around with one hand. With the parallel kit, two of these can carry a 50% bigger single load than my big generator. The truth is, though, you'd be surprised how little power you can live on if you have to. In an emergency, or just out camping, fuel economy may be more important than generating capacity. After Sandy, it became almost impossible to find fuel, and my small but efficient setup turned out to be perfect. This little generator could run for days off a 5-gallon gas can. The advantage of the bigger generator is that with a transfer switch, it can power up the house wiring. In an emergency, this unit could power things around the house with extension cords, but it is really meant more for outdoor 'fun' use: camping, tailgating, etc. It could also be useful on a boat. 1700 watts will power an electric chainsaw, compressor, or other tool for outside work. It is very quiet, especially at low loads, and is not going to keep you from sleeping at night. One thing that is not in the manual is that there is a fuel drain on the carburetor. A small tube extends down to near the oil filler; near the top of the tube is a screw that, when backed out, drains the bowl. If you set the machine to 'run' without starting it, you can drain the entire fuel system this way. This is a good option for long-term storage. The manual tells you to adjust the valve clearance one time after the first 50 hours, but doesn't say how. That is actually fairly easy, you can find general instructions on YouTube. I can't find any manufacturer's marks inside, but with their larger models, Generac uses their own-designed engines. I can't find any indication if Generac built this model themselves, or sourced it from overseas. I have seen many cheap Chinese generators that ran one time and never again, so many that I think that they are actually designed to do just that. I don't think Generac would put their good name on a piece of junk, I have a better feeling about this unit. Everything about it seems well-made and good quality. Time will tell.

Excellent product.
This inverter is one of my best purchases I've ever made. It runs a med size refrigerator and all lights in my cabin for 17 to 18 hours on one tank of gas. It's reliable, quiet and runs great. Easy to maintain.

Awesome little generator, and we purchased it just in time...
Awesome little generator, and we purchased it just in time as we had a fairly lengthy power outage just a few weeks later. It is super simple to set up and crank, relatively quiet, and has a great run time. I think we ran it around 8 or 9 hours on the first fill up, and it still could have run longer. We didn't try to push the amperage to see how much we could really run from it, but we ran our tv/cable/internet, charged our phones, and switched off running our refrigerator & computer. Once our power came back, we lent the generator our my mother, and now she is planning to buy one of her own.
