Works as it should
I've had this item for years now with no issue. The only exception is the keypad has a button that no longer works. Everything else has operated perfectly.

    Delicate and not reliable
    The first time I had to pull the release cord it broke. Made the repair. Last night I needed to unplug the unit and after I plugged it back in it didn't work. Dead. I'm switching brands.

      Surprisingly unexpected let down
      I bought this 5 years ago, installed it and it worked great... until this weekend. The unit randomly decided it will only lift the door a couple of inches each time you push the button and a red light flashes constantly on the central unit. Nothing I have tried fixes it, including checking the sensors, re-setting the power. On top of that I found out that they mislabeled the product, it says 4042 on the model number (which belongs to a 1200 not 1000), and the unit itself says its a 1000, as well as was the box it came in. Seems like they don't know what they're building. Warranty doesn't cover the board replacement for my opener. Very disappointed.

        Same issue as other posters
        Same issue as others mention. I was doing same electrical work and turned some breakers off. When I turned them back on both units would not work. Everything in the house works fine except the two openers. I got 7 or 8 years out of the openers, so better luck then some of the other posters.

        Hi John. We do recommend using a surge protector with any of our garage door openers. We also recommend getting one that plugs directly into the electrical outlet, that does not have the extension cord attached. GenieCompany

          Power Surge - Dead Unit
          I have two of these openers. One went dead several years ago and I replaced the entire unit. Had a power outage last night and one of them went completely dead. Climbed the ladder and opened up the unit. The fuse was good and power was getting to the circuit board. Just for the heck of it I ohmed out the motor windings and it looked good. Called Genie this morning and ordered a new PCB for $140. The customer service rep was friendly and helpful. It appears my other opener is the never version (white buttons vs the older black on this one). They use a revised PCB now so hopefully they fixed this vulnerability.

            same as others. went dead after power surge
            i think genie is not a reputable company if it doesnt advise plugging the powerhead into a surge protector. after our power went out, one side of garage unit went dead. the outlet was good and the lightbulb out let ok. but the circuit board mustve been burned. this happens allot. the service call lady was great and gave great info but yall should train them to advise pluggin it into a power surge first. this is pretty new. but she said the warranty went out in 2017. the year i bought the house. seems fishy.

              Dead after 3 years
              I hardly ever use my garage door opener we don’t even park a car in the garage replace the motherboard twice at this point Complete junk

                Genie products are junk. Instruction manuals lack the necessary details and just when you think you've figured out the instructions, good luck getting the results you expect. I've been trying to change the pin on the keypad with no luck.

                2. Press the Program key 1 time.
                3. Type your new PIN
                (3-8 digits).

                  Do yourself a favor
                  Do yourself a favor if you buy this opener bring it home and throw it directly into the trash and go get another brand. After 3 years I’m on my 5th control board, at $100+ each I’m not throwing another penny into this heap of garbage sorry excuse of a garage door opener. The customer service is fair if you can ever get through to them, if calling on your cell phone make certain your battery is fully charged because you will be on hold for an eternity. I will never again buy another Genie product, not even so much as the wire for the opener button. If it says Genie on it run away as fast and as far as you can.

                      Very Disappointed.
                      After a few years the motor just gave out and will not open the garage door. For what I paid for it I did expect for it to last longer then it did. So disgusted with the product.

                            Garbage went through two of these over a few years
                            I don't expect a lot but when I pay several hundred dollars for a piece of equipment I expect it to last for more than a few years especially with minimal use. I have lost two of these, they just went to black no lights, no response, no life. In both cases this happened when power was switched on and off, once due to a breaker and once due to a power outage. The replacement boards cost almost as much as the unit. Total garbage I won't ever buy a genie product again.

                              I would definitely stay away from these. I have 2 non functioning units in my garage as vehicles...
                              I would definitely stay away from these. I have 2 non functioning units in my garage as vehicles are parked outside. They are very quiet when working and overly quiet now as they do not work. I contacted Genie and they say they won't replace and I need to fix on my own. Parts cost more than to replace to entire unit.

                                I still have this one for my garage and after 7 years, the opener is working just fine. The outdo...
                                I still have this one for my garage and after 7 years, the opener is working just fine. The outdoor wireless remote finally gave out but the rest is still going just fine. It is a very quiet opener.

                                  Cheaply made, falls apart in a few years
                                  We installed one on each of our doors. First one broke after about 2 years. Second (on less used door) broke after 4 years. The boards just fry because of how cheap the garbage unit is. Not worth the cost for it to break that often. Lots of complaints on consumeraffairs.org.
