The processes used during manufacturing may leave an odor that may not leave until after several washing cycles. Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review for your dishwasher. Sorry to hear about the silverware basket and drying issues you've had here. This model actually has a feature called Condensate Dry. This is an energy-efficient drying system on some dishwashers. With this drying system design, condensation will form on cooler surfaces in a warm humid environment. At the end of a cycle, while the dish load is still hot, the stainless steel tub walls are already cooling down and pulling condensation to form on the tub walls instead of the dishes. This provides natural air drying of the dish load. The use of a rinse agent ensures spot and film protection for dishes and assists the drying process. If you're having drying issues, you may want to check to make sure that your incoming water temperature is at, at least, 120 F.
