All you need in one purchase
Need a new iron to work on small circuit board and this is the right one to buy. Heats up quickly and maintains heat. Just follow the simple rules of soldering, tin tip, clean tip, use then clean tip before unplugging. Comes with holder, solder removal strip -GREAT and solder.

Fast delivery! Good general use soldering iron. Heats up quickly. Good soldering tip. Cleans up easily. Used the iron to solder 22g wire and 18. Tried to do 10g with an XT90, but it’s not hot enough.

Heats up quickly. Make sure the first time you heat it up you do it outside, it will burn off oil for at least 15min. And get some solder on the tip asap as it will oxidize and be useless…I had to get some tip cleaner and a the brass wire pad to get it to work

Just like it was described: It's handy for some small to medium gage wire soldering. It has to be plugged and "burned out" for about 5 minutes for its initial use. It takes about a minute or 2 to get to working temperature. I did some model train repair and some small electronics (bike head light) repairs and it dd the job well. For less than 20 bucks it's a keeper. The cord is a bit stiff and short. The iron is so light that it easy gets pulled by the cord and its kinda hard to stabilize in the working area when hot. It seems fragile, I do believe that if you drop it while it's cooking it will bust. None of these issues affect its performance and if you treat it nicely it should be a good tool for a while. Comes with a spare tip, desoldering wire, and a super cheesy but useful holder. Nice buy!

I have been using this to weld plastic and it has worked quite well. When using it for this purpose, you have to be careful as the iron is supposed to heat up to 750 degrees + and will burn right through the plastic if held in one spot for too long. The small, pointed tip is perfect for repairing hairline cracks...An additional broad tip would be useful for repairing broader gaps with plastic rods and/or wire mesh, though I've used the iron to do that with success. And it heats up pretty quickly. All in all, I'm pleased with its performance. You don't need to spend a big amount of money to repair plastic. This is one of those tools that can be used for something other than what it was originally intended for.

Worked great. I used this on an automotive circuit board, the Body Control Module to be specific. As mentioned in other reviews, let it heat up first and it will burn off the residue on the gun. Comes with de-solder too.

      Does what it should
Nice little package. Worked perfect on small resistors. Warning....first use, let it heat up outside for 15-20 min to burn off whatever carcinogenic death vapor it spews. Then its fine!

Great for tight circuit boards in home electronics
Found this a great value for quick soldering of loose resistor component on board of a Energizer Battery recharger (NiMH). Saved me $30 to order a new one.

      Very good for the money
I've used this iron a few times now, to solder up a 20 guage wire harness for a car and to replace some capacitors on an old Macintosh PCB. Worked great, heats up fast and includes a spare pointy tip. Ideal for occasional use on these types of projects. First time you fire it up there is some smoke, this is just the lubricant used during assembly burning off. I tinned the tip and went to work and never saw the smoke again. Can't beat it for the money.

      Hakko 508 small but mighty
I used to do my soldering with Weller WD1002 ($350) but I sold that and wanted to have something for occasional use for my electronics hobby. So at first I bought Hakko 503 (60 watts)which I bought right here at HD. But as soon as I saw it I realized that that is not for electronic(circuit) repair but is for more heavy duty stuff like motors and etc.. So I ordered Hakko 508. I'm really glad I did. Hakko 503 (40 watts) is perfect for circuit and small to medium electronic repair and has enough power to do the job but it is not too hot to damage the electronic components. It comes with 2 tips and small stand. tip quality is very good considering the price of this Iron. I like the fact that this iron is not huge so I can work in a tight places. If you buy this iron, you need to plug it in and wait for 5 minutes for the manufacture oil in this iron to burn completely but this is only on the first time.. I really love this Iron, I just hope it last long. But on the first day, It has already paid for itself for me.
