Don't trust Home Depot shipping!
THIS IS NOT A REVIEW ON THE ACTUAL PROUCT, but is a review on how Home Depot's warehouse staff can't seem to pack fragile, bendable aluminum housings with any form.of care. Check out the photo...THEY'RE ALL BENT. Once again, I receive damaged goods. All the box had was a layer of paper across the top. A lot of good that did for when either HD's employees or the so so careful FedEx staff handle the package. Be warned!

    Works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice light that works well in my husband's shop. Easy to install and came with a template as well. Was easy to wire in also.

The build quality of each of the housing cans is sturdy, and plugs were easy to use. Negatives include the very rigid clips which make it very difficult to press in and lock. I highly recommend before installing to pull and stretch out each of the 4 clips so it makes it easier to lock in. When inserting the electrical wires into the junction box make sure to add plugs which will prevent the wires from fraying against the edges of the junction box over time.

Cut the hole, insert, hammer the tabs up, wire it add a led and transform your space with light. One note, pay attention to the sealing tape along the bottom of the can. A few of them in the store had the tape on the vertical part of the can it really needs to be along the rims horizontal curved to the vertical or it will not seal. 4 stars because of this. Good product though.

The Halo H995 Remodel Can worked great for our installation where we wanted to match the look of the existing cans with a new one in a nearby location. We could have mounted one of many self-contained units, but this one has the same look and feel as the other 10 in the room, so we went with this. Installation was a breeze. Of course, we bought a compatible Halo LED fixture with a matching plug to mate with the contact provided. The unit does not have an Edison base, so a compatible lamp is needed. Interestingly, the ground wire is not part of the socket, requiring that the lamp's ground be screwed into the provided hole in the inside wall of the can. The attached wiring box has a typical snap-on cover on both the top and the bottom. It also has some slick strain reliefs that make running Romex into it super simple. Standard small knockouts are also available., As many cans now have, this has the very simple push in wiring connectors that make wiring and daisy-chaining as simple as possible (see picture). No wire nuts needed for most installations. The push-in feet were pretty typical of most cans and worked very well. Once snapped or tapped in, they pulled the unit up nicely to hug the ceiling evenly and tightly. The unit can be easily dismounted as well, if additional wiring is needed. Multiple lamp trim kits are available - we went with a rotating gimbal trim kit. Installation took only a few minutes and it's looks and performance are great - Highly recommended.

I used these cans with Philips 532969 Full Spectrum White PAR38 Grow lights in our master BR suite, near a couch and over a tall Alocasia plant (and in our living room too). This is an old work situation, and had to do most of it from below in the room. There is an attic, but an HVAC unit mostly blocks access. I will tell you a valuable trick or two for installing these cans, I learned from an electrician buddy. Trick #1--Pick the location, but don't cut the big hole yet!! Cut a 12" section of straightened coat hanger wire and put it in a battery powered drill. In the center of the chosen location, carefully drill the coat hanger up through the ceiling, remove it from the drill chuck, and leave it in the hole. In the attic, look for the coat hanger and make certain it is at least 4" from a joist all around. Move and re-drill the coat hanger as required to find a safe location. Yes, you can't put cans just anywhere, you MUST allow for the diameter of the can AND the clips that pop out the side. Once you have a good location, place the template (provided with the fixture) on the coat hanger stub sticking out of the ceiling, and flat against the ceiling, and mark with a pencil around the template periphery. Cut the hole with your sheet-rock hand saw, on the line or JUST on the outer edge of the line. Bigger and the trim won't hide the cut. Pull your Romex or BX wire down through the hole 2-3 feet and choose a knock-out to remove in the fixture electrical box. Stick a screwdriver in it and bend back and forth. You MUST install a box-connector for the wire used - ALWAYS use the ground too. Trick #2-- If your ceiling is plaster over blueboard as mine was, the ceiling is thicker than the 1/2" or 5/8" the fixture can accommodate. Push the fixture clips through and bend them a little (don't go too far or they will snap or be too loose) so they will still hold the fixture tight when you install it per the manufacturer's instructions. If you don't do this in a thick ceiling, you will struggle to get it in. I speak from experience! Job is done and notice in just a few days the leaves which were hanging down, are now reaching up for the light, giving the plant a really nice shape. I use a switch for this light because we don’t want it waking us up on the weekends and turning it on and off in the bedroom is not a big deal. There is NO UV (the spectrum on the box shows this) to fade our furniture so it is a great fit for this location.corners of my bedroom and living room. This fixture is perfect for adding grow lights (this one draws only 16 watts) to your home to brighten up gloomy winter days.

This works just wonderfully. I couldn't get the springs to fit as described in the instructions, but I was able to press them through the hole and they held the fixture in place. Painted the ceiling, and installed the lights and things looked beautiful.

Read all the reviews, did the job, now I must leave mine. Overall the product worked great and was relatively easy to install for a novice like me. I did 5 x 4" Halo RL LEDs in a 12ftx13ft room. Some issues I ran into: make sure you have enough room for the clips to expand out. I cut the holes too close to the studs in the roof on a few, and had to pop in and remove one of the clips because I didn't create enough room. Also, if you cut the hole with the template, make sure to keep it accurate. I did, but still had to shave off some drywall with a utility knife to be able to bump it up into the ceiling. The templates are well sized though. Also, the ground screws that come with the Halo LEDs don't screw into the housing flawlessly, so pay attention to those and install as best as possible. Lastly, the wire connectors worked perfect, chained a few together very easily. Oh yeah, no buzz, works great with recommended Cooper dimmer, no flicker after adjusting the dimmer properly.

        Awesome product needs better instructions
This housing only cost me $10. I was fixing a mickey moused job where someone tried to install an led can light with no can! This product needs better instructions though. I wasnt able to get the tabs to lock by pushing them. They only locked after shoving the little upside down "T" part of the tab straight up. After that its solid and im glad I can remove the can to service the wires if need be. My picture shows the can's electrical box, you dont wire nut on mine, you just press the wires in. Also this is with the 2 covers off.

It's a really elegant design, very quick and easy to install, until you try to connect the ML56 LED lighting module. There's a wiring harness from the top of the housing that plugs right in to the top of the module, really easy. However, the module also has a separate ground wire which is supposed to be connected separately to the housing, but there's simply no way to do it with supplied parts. The instructions say to use the supplied machine screw and nut to connect the ground wire to an existing hole on the housing, or use the nut on an existing post in the housing. But the H550RICAT housing has no holes (it's supposedly air-tight) or posts. You could do it with a self-tapping sheet metal screw, but none are supplied. There's simply no way to do it. Even if you have a self-tapping sheet metal screw, it's really hard to connect the ground wire because it's too short and you don't have enough hands to hold the module up and screw it in. Everything else about this system seems so well designed... I contacted Halo/Eaton customer support, who could only offer an apology. Well, except that it's supposed to be air-tight, which is achieved with some foam tape. But the tape fails to seal on all six of my housings around where the wire comes through, and the lack of actual packaging failed to protect the foam tape on the top of the housing which seals some holes (those holes are too big and too far for the ground screw). So they're not actually air-tight. You can easily fix this yourself with more foam tape and/or silicone sealant, but you shouldn't have to. So find another brand. One which actually tries to install their products before selling them. BTW, Home Depot also fell down on the packaging. They threw six housings and a couple of the modules in a massively oversized box with a token amount of air bag padding. The housings came in dented, with the clips loose in the bottom of the box, and much of the foam sealing tape on the outsides of the housings ripped. But my local store doesn't stock these housings... Get 'em elsewhere where you can inspect them in person.

            Good units
You need to bend out a bit to get a good snug fit against the sheetrock, and I go to the extra step of using a small piece of duct tape just to make sure the clip doesn't come out in the can, but otherwise they are excellent. I really like the easy electrical connection clips, which greatly speeds up installation.

            Excellent Can
Used 22 of these in my house. Love them. The price point allows LEDs to compete with ballasted CFL housings. They're also easy to install. You'll want an adjustable or 6" recessed can hole saw. Don't spent big bucks for a whole saw designed for wood or metal; the cheap abrasive tipped ones will cut drywall just fine and give a perfect fit. These have the orange two-prong snap-on connector.that most LEDs use. If you've never used this type of clip system, you just fold the legs together and attach to each side of the same clip. Attach both, then push up, twisting gently as you approach the ceiling.

            Remodel Clips Are Fun
Hey Halo, Whoever designed those remodel clips needs a severe beating. If the individual who designed them is still employed by you they should quit immediately and go seek forgiveness from their God of choice. Actually in this case they seek forgiveness from all the Gods. They should spend eternity walking on Legos barefoot. I hate this person with a white hot passion.

The worse Home Depot online purchase ever! 1st unit- the box and light housing were crushed as someone stomped on the box! Returned to local store immediately. 2nd unit- shipped to store. The sales rep opened the box and discovered a badly dented light housing! 3nd unit- shipped to store again. The light housing electrical box was missing the cover plate! Took almost 2 months and 4 trips to local store to finally get an undamaged unit, but only to find out the 4 holding clips are badly designed and will not secure the light housing on the ceiling panel.

First of these lights are not 6 inches they are 7 1/2 inches in diameter. Then you said the lights would be here on a certain date . And a day after I purchased them delayed them by 5 days . So I had to make other arrangements and returned them.
