We replaced two 6" incandescent gimbal lights using the Halo RA 5 and 6 inch gimbal retrofit trim units. Replacing the old units was easy and we really liked the selectable CCT range. The new LED lights are much smaller than the old incandescent lights which looks better in our ceiling and provide the same if not better lighting. The price seems fair at around $30 per light.

I purchased and installed four of these lights two months ago. They look beautiful.
However, I purchased a house plant that was infested with gnats. Within a couple of days, each of the integrated lights had 50 or more gnats inside of the glass.
Why would there be an opening where insects....who are naturally drawn to light...could enter?
I am now faced with replacing all four lights unless there is some remedy to this that I am not aware of.

Like most Eaton lighting products, this Halo adjustable downlight is a very well engineered fixture that is made super simple to install by the well thought out design. We used this in a basement remodel where we have many recessed cans already and needed to add some similar units to highlight wall pictures. These adjustable Gimbal fixtures simply push into the compatible Halo cans and stay in place using springy pressure clips that deliver a very sturdy, firm mount.
Our installation involved the installation of a remodel can and the Halo adjustable downlight and both were quickly wired and installed. Having a new can for our install meant that the connector to which the downlight plugs in was already in place, but Eaton does include an adapter for an older Edison bulb base which makes those installs just as easy.
The light can be tilted pretty far and the light can be rotated, but not nearly as easily as it can be tilted. The bulb is dimmable using compatible dimmers, which we used (see video). If you don't need the tilting feature, there are self-contained downlights that require no cans and are even simpler to install, but if you have an existing compatible can and want to keep it, or need the tilting feature, this unit is perfect.
We are very happy with the results and highly recommend this fixture for remodel use cases like ours.

Well made, low profile and includes color adjustment.
This fixture was an easy retrofit into a can that had the "ears" required for the already attached torsion springs. You have to adjust the color before putting the fixture into. the can using the slide switch on the top of the fixture, so if you are not sure what color you need it might be an idea to install at dusk when you can best see the visual effect of changing the color.
The fixture fits nice and flush against the ceiling giving it a low profile once installed. The low profile coupled with the gimbal's stiffness meant that I initially had a little trouble getting the gimbal to move, however after tilting it a little it was easier to rotate and move around.
Solid, well made
Easy to install
Includes choice of torsion springs or friction fingers
Low ceiling profile
Can adjust the color temperature.
Gimbal was a little stiff
Unlike some other fixtures, does not include a foam gasket to make an air seal against the ceiling

Would be great….if the gimbal worked! Otherwise, what’s the point?!
The Halo RA 5 and 6 in. Integrated LED Recessed Light Adjustable Gimbal Retrofit Trim with Selectable CCT (2700K-5000K), Model # RA56069S1EWHR. Has a lot of great features:
- Integrated LED and trim
- Selectable “color” light across a wide range from warm to daylight (2700K-5000K)
- Easy connection to the A19 socket in an existing recessed fixture (“can”)
- “Spring fit” and “Friction fit” adapters, depending on the type of can
- Fits both 5” and 6” cans
- And, of course, the gimbal to tilt it up to 35 degrees
...if only it would stay where you tilted it! It lacks “friction” to stay at the desired angle, so the slightest touch causes it to move. You might get it where you want, but no guarantee! And ironically, the rotation function is notchy.
If Halo could just fix this it would be a great product, but until then I can’t recommend it.

Halo is part of Eaton Corporation, a large supplier of many electrical items. Years ago I was specifying their lighting products as an engineer and got to know their quality. This recessed light trim seems well made throughout. The tilt and swivel feature works easily unlike on some fixtures like it. Light distribution is uniform. At 88 lumens per watt, the efficiency is better than average for a LED recessed trim (around 65 to 70 is the average). My application is placement at the top of a stairway in a small hallway. It helps light up the stairs supplementing the light from a sconce on the wall and does a good job of doing so. The leaf spring clips on the sides of the fixture create a tight grip to the can without any adjustment. Being able to select the light color temperature is nice so that you can get the light effect you want in your home and you can't make a mistake when you buy the fixture. Just adjust the setting with the switch on the back of the fixture. This is something most folks will do only once in the life of the fixture. I suspect it helps with the item cost since the manufacturer doesn't have to make and inventory five different light color temperature units. All in all, it's a simple way to light a wall or highlight something in a room or improve the light in a stairway--like my application. I don't currently have a dimmer on this light since I wanted as much light in the stairway as possible.

This product was very simple to install. It is designed as a retrofit kit/trim for a 4 inch light. I was able to easily remove the old light and then install the trim kit. The LED light was extremely bright and it was also dimmable. The new LED light is much more energy efficient than the previous light and it much brighter. I did not have any installation issues. The product exceeded my expectations and it was a great value.

Excellent insert, color adjustment and gimbals are great. This has one of the best feature set for retrofitting recessed lights I've seen. The gimbals have excellent mobility, spinning all the way around and angling as far as you could possibly want. The color adjustments are useful, but I can't imagine man people would adjust them more than once. Still it pretty well guarantees if you get these you'll be able to get the right color for your room.

This is a fabulous fixture. I have been looking for a fixture to replace old gimbal can highlights used to light wash my two stone fire places. This light is the perfect modern replacement for those old fixtures. Its new technology distinguishes it in at least three ways over its predecessors.
First, its LED and I assume by now everyone is familiar with the advantages that technology provides over incandescent lighting. However, the older fixtures allowed you to replace their incandescent bulbs with LED’s so that, in and of itself, is not a significant advantage. The advantage this fixture has is it was designed for an LED light source only. So, it can take full advantage of the properties LED provides.
The first, advantage I noticed is its compact size. Instead of the large bulky trim ring and housing this fixture looks nearly like a down light replacement. (Please note the difference in the accompanying photos.) Even with its compact size the fixture’s tilt capabilities are more than adequate.
Next, is Its ability to easily and smoothly rotate 360 degrees. My older fixtures’ rotational capabilities were somewhat limited by their mounting. Which was often frustrating when trying to fine tune the align after changing a burned-out bulb.
Lastly, the fixture has a diffusing lens that is perfect for wall washing. Its light pattern is much more smoothly distributed across the wall, in my case the fireplace, with less of a hot spot in the middle.
The manufacture emphases the selectable color temperature feature which is nice, but not something I see a lot of advantage in, for me, the consumer. Traditionally,I have selected the color temperature I want when I buy the light. With this feature I might experiment a bit with different settings but once I have decided on a setting it is not likely to change. I don’t know the cost effect this feature has on the price. I would hope it would reduce the price by reducing the number of products the manufacture must have to cover the market space. I imagine that thought is naive judging from the price of the fixture. Its price is the only negative I have and it is not enough to stop me from buying 3 more to replace the remaining old fixtures I have.
Of course the light installs easy and comes with good instructions. I strongly recommend this light and as stated before am purchasing additional ones.
