We ordered two heaters, which came disassembled in two separate boxes (random parts in each box). After putting them together we noticed the last piece, the regulator, was missing. Home Depot does not carry this item and did not help us source a replacement, even though they have a contact at the vendor. Can not recommend.
This heater far exceeds our expectations. Quality built. The heat deflector allows you to aim the heat to the center of the room. The added table space is a plus. And the heat this thing puts out... Couldn't believe it was only 38,200 btu. Highly recommend!
This is the second of this model I have purchased. The first was purchased in 2009/10 and is still going strong. Hamptonbay has made may upgrades this item over the years and they have resulted in a even better product and much easier assembly process. The main reason we bought both of these is the adjustable heat deflector, this is a game changer as we can focus the heat directly to a specific area of the seating arrangement...and now we both have one of our very own!!!
Took some time to assemble using the proper tools, but went together with ease, started and burned without a problem on first try. This is a new unit as of the review, but I am completely satisfied at the present.
I bought it in a box, and it took me about 40 minutes to assemble the unit. Really like the adjustable top heat reflector that when it used next the a wall, we could redirect the heat away from the wall and toward people. Excellent design and a solid product.
Being able to direct heat on to a table from the side was our goal. With a picnic sized table, we can direct the heat to all people sitting at any location at the table. We have the heater located under a metal pergola and the top of the heater is about 12 inches from the pergola underside. Almost all the heat is reflected so the pergola does not get warm.

I have mixed feelings about this heater. I decided to keep it because it does in fact direct the heat and therefore I can keep it further away from the patio table and still keep people warm. However, the build quality is very poor. The heater arrived in a box that was not designed for heavy contents. As a result, about half the pieces were dented or bent. The company sent replacements parts, but some of them were even more damaged than the original pieces. I made due with what I had and put it together with the least damaged pieces. If you need the ability to direct heat, consider this heater. But if you want something that looks good, steer clear.
The adjustable deflector is a huge improvement over the fixed deflector on my old heater. The Mirage really does focus the heat where you need it. When I sit out under the heater, I now can get almost all the heat directed at me instead of heating the 180 degrees of dead space on the other side of the heater. If you are not trying to heat an entire circular seating area, then the heat-focusing feature is well worth the money. I've only had this heater for three weeks, but my neighbor has one that is 10 years old and still going strong. I'm still on my first tank of propane, but after about 14 hours of use at medium to medium-high heat setting it appears to burn pretty efficiently. The only minor annoyance I have found so far is that the heat shield pops as it expands and contracts with the heat. It doesn't cause any problems, but it makes a loud pop like the individual plates that make up the shield are binding on the screws that hold them together. This may go away over time as the shield ages and settles in. I've also noticed that the heat seems to radiate down farther than my old heater. With the Mirage I can feel the heat down to my knees, where my old heater just hit my shoulders and upper chest. Like all of these heaters, blocking the wind is key. My screened deck is sheltered so I don't get a lot of wind and the heat stays near the heater. I definitely recommend this heater.
One of the easiest things that I've ever assembled. Had it delivered to my local Home Depot and it arrived in excellent condition. Not a scratch or dent packaging was pristine. Stevie Wonder could have put this thing together very impressed from the start. Once assembled and hooked up it started without any problems. KIcks out a a decent amount of heat and well worth paying a little more for the tilt feature. I can sit on my deck comfortably at 28 degrees with just a light jacket. Planning on getting another one for the patio. If you're on the fence about buying one as I was I'm happy that finally broke down and got it. My neighbor has an electric version and this thing out performs it by a mile. Well worth the money would recommend to anyone looking to get an outdoor heater. Looks great on the deck couldn't ask for more!
