Installed the light fixture in the kitchen a couple days after purchasing. It replaced a 2-tube 4 ft florescent fixture. I have been using the fixture a few weeks and am very pleased with its performance. I needed to drill two larger holes for clearance to get my wires through. I had the lenses cover off when I first turned it on. The fixture has four rows of 30 LED's, a 120 total. The light is very bright and looks good, even unique - on or off, without the lenses cover. After putting the lenses cover on I can not see the individual LED's. It gives bright even light through the kitchen. My only negative comment would be needing to drill two holes for my wires. The holes in the fixture just were not large enough.

The color of the light from this fixture is white, whiter even than the fluorescent bulbs it replaced, whiter than I am used to. And I can see slight shadows on the plastic lens where the levers hold the lens on. But I like the amount of light the fixture provides and its dimmability.

  • Hamilton Bay 4' x 1' LED Traditional Ceiling LED flushmount fixture
  • October 05, 2016

Hamilton Bay 4' x 1' LED Traditional Ceiling replacement recommendations? I too purchased this light and within a 10 day period the light died. Electrician re-checked the connections and install all was fine. He stated the transformer that came built in with this fixture was cheaply made, hence the reason for the failure in such a short period of time.

These lights are almost perfect! Almost. A major problem was the length of the wires from the unit that were to be connected to your dedicated house lines. 2 to 3 inch longer wires are needed to truly do a secure and clean connection. Easy installation due to the fact it is so light compared to any similar sized fixtures. The fact that it can be used with a dimmer is another plus. 2 lights spaced 4 feet apart gives plenty of light in our kitchen with its white and cream accented decor. You can see everything with no eye strain! My babe noted that the dimmer is an option, and gee, sometimes its almost too bright! Guess what I'll be doing! Ha ha!

This was purchased to replace a similar length fluorescent fixture in walk-in closet. Overall it looks great. Good: 3000 Lumen is much higher than fluorescent and the overall light distribution is better since the ends do not have supports for bulbs as they did with the old style tube lights. Bad: The screws provided did not fit the metal junction box that I also purchased new from HD. (correct size but wrong thread pitch, I managed to find replacements from other left over hardware) Bad: The 1/4" pilot holes for the cheap plastic drywall anchors were too large and I had to use other hardware instead for mounting. I'm pretty sure a 3/16" hole would have been the correct size. Since we live in earthquake country I prefer toggle bolts anyway so that's what I used instead, however the sheet metal is so thin I wished I had used washers as well on at least the smaller dia. bolts that I used. Makes me think I got the wrong hardware set as nobody else seems to have any issue. Bad: The instructions are pathetic. For the cost of the lights it is too much to ask to have clear instructions? The box mounting bracket "BB" which is actually a round cover should be attached AFTER the wire connections are made. So step 3 then step 2. Or you can violate code like I did and make the connections within the light housing itself. OK: The latches to secure the cover are pretty neat. I found it easiest to slide in one of the short ends and then push up to better center the housing. The lip it fits in is quite narrow so centering it can be a little tricky otherwise. Closing the latches was super simple though and there's enough that they hopefully will last the life of the LEDs. OK: The metal tabs that hold the wires in place are just barely adequate. I saw at least one review complaining that the wires can be seen. If you don't firmly press the tabs down to secure the wires, they may slip out. It isn't easy to fit the ground wire and the main power wires all into the small metal tabs (F). Caution: Even those small pieces of Styrofoam will be visible when the light is off. Due to static I vacuumed out all I could but still missed a couple!

I love the led instant on vs the fluorescent I replaced. Brightens the kitchen area tremendously. Nice lens but easy to break when installing. But beautiful when finished.

relatively easy to install, did the install by myself. If you are able ,due to its length ,you could prop one end with another ladder or a helper's hand til you get the first end up in your pre-made holes. Proper layout is essential , to be square with the room and so you're not left hanging in the air without your tool or mounting hardware. Also because it is "dimmable" I installed an inexpensive dimmer $12-13.00 but later called Home Depot for the recommended "dimmer" for this fixture. Paid twice as much for the dimmer but the recommended dimmer works. Dims to approximately 60% and when you flip the switch on it comes on a t 60%. The previous dimmer would not come on at the lower value and required to be near 100% to flip the switch and come on. I would give it a 5 rating but I want to give some time, I've been disappointed before on stuff that comes from you , but it is UL listed and 5 yr warranty and 90 day return to HD which is a good 4 star rating in my book.
