I installed this remote approximately 3 weeks ago and it woks very well for my ceiling fan. I have basic electricity knowledeg but this was the 1st ceiling fan and remote to a ceiling fan I had ever installed. I had no issues installing.
The only issue someone whom may not know how to install one already, may have a problem looking at the schematic. It's very, very small. If you have that problem, take a piture of it with your cell phone then enlarge it to see it better.
The package does not say it can’t go in hugger fans, but it doesn’t instruct how. It just has down-rod canopy installation instructions, so I installed it in a fairly new Home Decorators fan with a down-rod.
Directions and installation were straight-forward. Canopy brackets basically have a slot for the receiver to slide into. Just need to tuck the wires up in the box above it and around it.
The receiver connects to one hot wire, neutral and ground, so if you have separate wall switches for fan and light, connect the receiver to only one of those wires and keep that switch on at all times. The wire from the other switch gets capped off and tucked unconnected, so its wall switch will be disabled. Then the remote controls everything.
Ensure the code switches in receiver and remote match and set the O/D switch in the remote for the type of light bulbs being used. They say D is for incandescent and O for everything else, but really D is for dimmable and O is for non-dimmable bulbs. O disables the dimmer. Some LED and CFL bulbs are dimmable now, so can keep it on D for them.
This remote has a lot of features- comfort breeze which changes fan speed intermittently to feel like a natural breeze, a brief delay off, 3 auto-off timers, dimmer and fan speed adjustments. Read the remote operation instructions because there are several special ways to enable and disable features like long presses that you will not know otherwise. The remote buttons are hard plastic and have good feedback. It feels solid.
There’s no wall bracket but can just use a hook & loop tab on the back and wherever you want to secure it near where you use it, like an end table. It’s dumb to store a remote on the wall as the whole point of a remote is to have control from wherever you sit or sleep! And the delay off helps because you can turn it off from the bed/chair and it will wait a bit to actually turn off so you can still exit the room in light. If your bulbs are dimmable, the delay off dims the light so you know its engaged.
It’s working great! I recommend this model.
Pros: Easy to Assemble, Functional, High Quality of Material, Lots of Features, Stylish, Well Made
Live and learn, after jumping the wires the fan and light work, so I purchase this, its a easy install.
Some added features from the other remote too, After I was done I notice someone change the dips in the old remote!!!! We now have a extra remote for the other Hampton Bay fan.
I wish they would give you a wall mount holder for this black remote...
This remote is an excellent choice for most ceiling fans. We just paired it with a Hampton Bay 60 in industrial fan for our patio and it works flawlessly. If you are interested read on and we will give more details on our first hand experience.
What we liked most:
1. Easy to install, easy to access the dip switches, easy to use, easy to change batteries.
2. The "comfort breeze realistic speed randomizer setting" is something we have enjoyed.
3. The timer feature is something we use a lot.
4. It has good range and I can control my patio fan from my den.
5. It has a small switch that allows you to use it with LED, CFL or incandescent light bulbs.
6. The price is good for all the features offered.
I hope this helps. We have attached some photos and posted a demo video at https://youtu.be/3rQHLGwy__4
I thought I could connect this to a fan that already has a remote with it and use it as an extra remote but I can’t. So it’s obv not a universal remote like it says it is.

We apologize for any confusion regarding the remote. The universal description is meant to describe the remote's ability to be installed in most ceiling fans. This remote is not meant to be a universal remote like a universal TV remote would be. The remote includes a receiver that needs to be installed in the fan in order to operate. If you have a Hampton Bay fan with a remote and would like a second remote, please call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678) and one of the team members will be able to help you order the correct remote.
