Overall, this lamp looks great and has nice heft to it. I bought two and attached them to an outlet controlled by a light switch, so I can't speak to the durability of the lamp switch itself. There are other reviews indicating a high failure rate on them apparently.
My concern is on the base itself. After I put the two lamps in room corners, they have not been touched. I recently went to switch out the bulbs and one of the concrete weights in the base was falling apart -- it was literally disintegrating to dust. Now the lamp is completely unweighted, so it's top heavy and unusable unless I weigh it down with something else on the bottom. I checked the base on the other lamp, and noticed similar cracked of the plastic/rubber covering the concrete on that one as well. Frustrating.

50/50 results = buyer beware
We bought two of these for our living room, and were pleased with the heft, apparent craftmanship, and output. For about a month. After the initial month, one lamp stopped working entirely - even more frustrating: it was the one we used much less frequently, so it had barely been touched! This is without question the worst Hampton Bay product I have ever owned, and I'm still pretty bitter about the purchase, and wary of an affordable brand I once trusted. Now I have to find a second floor lamp that doesn't clash with the functioning lamp (which, judging from other reviews, might die at any time).
This product should never have hit the shelves. Even the slightest quality control would have flagged such a widespread problem.

Great lopsided lamp
The style of the lamp was good. The quality was very poor. The base was so lopsided that it couldn't stand straight without propping something under one side. I returned the lamp and decided not to waste my time with another. If quality control is that bad I don't want to waste more of my time assembling another to see if it is good or not.

don't buy this lamp!
saw this lamp in the store and ordered it online so i did not have to buy the floor model. when i opened the box, it was full of condensation; everything was wet and very very cold, almost freezing to the touch -- odd since i live in southern california. home depot would not send a replacement without me purchasing a new one, so i did, and sent the old one back via UPS. the second one arrived today. the bottom was warped, the styrofoam packaging was broken and crumbling (and very very messy), and the cord was covered with white sticky stuff. now i'm out more than $80, waiting for a credit on the wet lamp and preparing to send the second one back. what a hassle!

Packaging not as advertised
We purchased the lamp when it went on sale as it was advertised as an indoor/outdoor lamp but when we got it, nothing on the packaging had anything about being an outdoor lamp. Very disappointed as we didn't need anymore lamps for the house but wanted something to put outside.
