Do not ever use with a dimmer switch (even if you'll never adjust it); Otherwise great
I can't edit my previous review, so here are some updated thoughts.
Things I like: I bought two of these. They work with Zigbee-based smart home solutions (Hubitat, Smartthings, Wink). Responds to Google Assistant which is great when I am half-asleep in a dark room. They're priced attractively with the discount, and uses standard AAA batteries (Hunter remote uses a weird size that cost $10 to replace) in the remote. The remote works well for family members who do not know how to control via smart home.
Zigbee signal strength has been discussed extensively on smart home forums for this device and the consensus is that it's not great. However in my experience they never gave me any trouble as long as you installed the antenna attached to the ceiling outside the canopy (see photo). Since the controller's big end can only be located opposite the socket of the hanging bracket of the fan, you may wish to plan out the install if the antenna appearance bothers you. Otherwise, you can install a Zigbee repeater in the same room or DYI replace the antenna. The remote antenna wire (long black) seems to work fine located within the canopy.
The instructions for pairing with smart home are really sparse. You need to power cycle the device at 3-second intervals 10 times (5 on-off cycles) and do this precisely with a stopwatch. The lights will not flash UNTIL you enter pairing mode on your hub and it successfully connects.
Lastly but perhaps most importantly, do not ever use these with any sort of dimmer switch. One of the controllers was connected to a dimmer for the prior fixture and it misbehaved (fan humming, lights strobing, wrong intensity at settings, etc.) until I took a multimeter to it and discovered it was spitting out random voltages. I never thought this would be a problem since I always left the dimmer on max. A $2 regular switch resolved all issues. Kudos for the dimmer not breaking the controller in the month or two that I had it installed.

Overall, this is a good product. My only complaint is that it adds a light to the lighting section. I already had the bedroom light (attached to the fan) on a Lutron dimmer. Now there are two icons that control the same light due to it adding a fan/light in the fan section and a “light bulb” in the lighting section.
The installation could not be much easier. The remote and app work well. We have a surface/flush mount fan so I was a little concerned that the reception for the remote and app wouldn't be very good. I was not able to place either antenna (wink or remote) outside the base, but that doesn't seem to have hurt the reception. Both the hub and remote connect and work well despite the antennas being concealed.
The operation is very easy and memorizes the last setting used. I was a little skeptical, but I've been very pleasantly surprised by how well this works. I would recommend this for any Wink user.

I really desired to connect it to a smart home system; however, Wink is virtually unavailable. I opted for a SmartThings hub instead and I am having trouble connecting the two. But as a stand-alone system it works great. I did add an Everbilt 3/8 in. Clear Adhesive Bumper Pad from Home Depot to the light button to make it easy to find in the dark.

Works excellent and tied perfectly into my smart home system controlled by Wink. Installed on a 4 year old fan and everything programmed and worked perfectly. LED bulbs work great with the module as well. Make sure your fan as a slot on the base for the module to fit. Otherwise, you may run into fitment issues. Also, make sure you use the screw for the antenna; it will not should with the double sided tape, even on regular ceilings.

If the fan isn't on a switch you will have a hard time pairing with Wink. The process to pair requires power to be cut from the fan (not just pressing the power button the remote). I learned this after installing and calling the wink support number and spending hours on the phone. I had to connect a temporary switch between the power line and the fan in order to pair with wink. then discount the switch and reassemble the fan. I had the Zigbee antenna inside the fan canopy which caused it to be disconnected more than it was online. I had to disassemble the fan once again, cut a slot in the canopy and mount the antenna as far outside as possible. Now it holds a steady connection and it typically online. If I knew all this up front I may have rated it higher. lessons learned..

I bought two of these devices to integrate into my home automation platform, plus control the light and fans I have remotely. One of the fan housings it was difficult to insert this but that issue is more to do with the fan manufacturer. I was able to manage to get it into the canopy and cover the sensor. The setup was a breeze. Speaking of breeze, the continuous breeze setting (3 wavy lines) on the remote, is a remarkable feature that definitely improves the comfort in my bedroom.

bought two. Both work just fine. It took me a little while to figure out how to install - the instructions are not terrific, and I had an unusual installation - two fans, using the remotes to control the fans only; lights on a common light switch.NOTE: I DID NOT SEE THAT THE DEVICE IS INDOOR ONLY ON THE WEBSITE. I installed them anyway.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, we're happy to hear that the remote functions well as a remote. This particular remote requires the WINK hub and a subscription to utilize the smart features. It is not compatible with other smart home ecosystems. For a true smart remote, we would suggest model #99434. That remote is compatible with Google, Alexa, and SmartThings with no extra equipment or hubs necessary.

I've had this remote installed for about two weeks now and have learned all the ways I want to use it. Installation was almost just like all the rest of the wireless remotes for a fan and light, semi easy. (I'm not an electrician) What I liked most was the FOUR speed selection of the fan, and the auto turn-off of the fan. I didn't set this up for the Wink Enabled smartphone operation, No need for me to hook up EVERYTHING to my router, so I can't rate that portion of the remote. I would have liked this remote to have had a holster included to mount it near the switch that controls the light and fan though, being on the night stand makes me walk all the way across the bedroom in the dark at night to get the light to come on, just a matter of convenience.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, we're happy to hear that the remote functioned well with Wink. We understand the frustration caused with Wink's decision to transition to a subscription based service. For a smart remote solution, we recommend the universal Wi-Fi remote model # 99434 which works with Alexa, Google Assistant, and SmartThings with no subscription or extra equipment needed.

Ordered two of these. Products both stopped working within minutes of completing the installation.
Initially, all fan speeds worked, but after cycling through speeds a few times, now only the highest speed works. Any attempt to change to a lower fan speed "crashes" the fixture, turning off the fan and the light until power to the controller is cut and re-established.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, we're sorry to hear that you are having this issue with the remotes as it is not a typical occurrence. Rapid cycling through the speed settings may cause unwanted performance issues. Please wait a full second between each push of the speed button. You may also want to change the dip switch settings in the remote and receiver to set the remotes to a different frequency. Interference from nearby devices could cause issues with the remotes as well. If the problem persists, please call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-434-2678 and one of the team members will be able to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

This unit seems to be defective. The remote may or may not work. Cycling the fan from high to low shuts off the light. Wink has trouble staying connected to my hub. I am replacing this with a different wireless remote and getting a bond hub to handle the connection to the hub.

Works with Hubitat as well
Although it was a little finicky to set up, I figured it was worth reiterating that this *does* work with systems besides Wink, so long as there is a driver for it. I have a Hubitat hub controlling my place and have successfully gotten it to recognize the fan and light controls here.
Note that because the unit is inside the ceiling mount, radio coverage is not that great when installed according to directions. It may help to trail the antenna about an inch or so out from the top of the unit where the fan attaches to the mount. Additionally, you will need a *strong* Zigbee signal in the room to complete initial pairing, so consider temporarily adding a Zigbee plug or something that can act as an extender.
After that, put your hub into Zigbee pairing mode and follow the instructions on this remote for doing a factory reset by cycling the power to the fan from the wall for 3 seconds five times in a row in succession, leaving it on at the end. Note that this is *power* cycling -- using the remote won't do it, you need to toggle power at the wall switch.
Worth the cost!

Imposible to reset
I managed to install correctly but had no idea that you needed a physical switch to reset the zigbee. Thing is with people who have smart homes you remove all physical switches. That's what makes it a smart home. After installing a switch just to reset the zigbee I couldn't get it to connect to hub, the reset process is a joke. Turn off count 3 turn on count 3 repeat 5 times. Total pain in the buttocks.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, we're sorry to hear that you are having this issue with the Wink Remote control. The remote does require a switch to reset. Wink has transitioned to a subscription based model and that is one of the reasons that we would suggest using the Universal WiFi remote control (model # 99434). The WiFi remote is compatible with Google Home, Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings and allows you to operate the fan and light via voice control, the handheld remote, or the Bond Home app.

Not recommended. Remote is pretty bad imo but thats not the main issue. Doest work without a hub and now wink requires a monthly subscription for the hub to work. Overpriced product for very limited functionality. Feeling cheated. You are much better off with getting the remote from bond. It works with wifi and alexa without a need for a hub or expensive monthly subscription.

Response from THD-CSMay 18, 2020
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, unfortunately Wink has decided to go to a subscription based platform. The Wink service was originally free. We agree that the best alternative solution is the Universal Wifi Remote powered by Bond (model # 9943).

Seems to work well
I just installed this today so I can’t speak to long term use but so far it seems to work fine. Installed easily in a few minutes, only thing that slowed it down a bit was getting all the new “stuff” to fit into place and replace the mount cover. Paired to the Wink immediately without any issues even though I did not leave the antenna outside the cover like the instructions say. If it lasts I may get another one for another fan.

Works fine, and integrates with my Wink controller nicely. However, I would not have even bought this model if the in-wall transmitter came with a WiFi-enabled receiver.
Note that if your fan is hard-wired (i.e. does not have a wall switch controlling the power) you will have to shut off the breaker to the fan in order to sync up to a Wink controller. However, once that is done it sync's up fine.

I installed this on 1/1/2020 on an Emerson Ceiling fan with light kit. I am using Hubitat as my smart home hub instead of SmartThings or Wink. This device uses the Zigbee protocol so I turned on the Hubitat Zigbee discovery and it found it right away. Hubitat has a driver and identifies it automatically. There is a property on the driver sheet that you can enable to show the fan and light as separate devices which I did and it was flawless. I disabled and re-enabled the Hubitat skill on Alexa to allow it to discover the new device(s) fan and light which it did and it works well. I can control the fan on/off/speed and the light on/off. I don't have dimming bulbs, so I have that feature turned off but it's supposed to do that as well. My home is mostly Zwave so I don't have a lot of experience with Zigbee, but discovery was flawless, and Alexa Performance to operate the fan/lights has no lag. Installation and integration were easy and flawless. I found a youtube video detailing the install too. I'm very pleased with the results.
