Love this thermostat
I had a thermostat just like this for years. After replacing my wifi router, I had to re-connect the thermostat to the new wifi. I pulled the front plate off and dropped it damaging the screen. This mistake requiring me to find a new one. I liked this unit so much I replaced it with a new one just like the old one.

Not user friendly
We bought a house with the Wi-Fi Touchscreen thermostat but since it is still connected to the old owners Account we cannot add it to finish the setup. We've tried calling (on hold for over 52mins), chat was unavailable during times listed and nothing in manual or internet telling us how to disconnect from other owner.

    It takes a little time to get it installed (i had to call a professional$$). After s few tries i was able to get the phone app configured so that i can monitor/change settings remotely. Now it works great!

    I bought this a year ago and its features are wonderful. The Touchscreen makes it easy to set and make changes. With the Wi-Fi connection and my smart phone I have all the features at my finger tips.

      Not a great thermostat for those non-tech people
      We have this thermostat which came with our home when we purchased it. It is really difficult to set up despite the claim that it is really easy to download the app and quickly connect to our home wi-fi. The app wouldn't load on our desktop, the thermostat does a really poor job of controlling the temperature, especially with the cooling system. The system struggles to control the temperature, we have to constantly adjust the setting, and as time has gone by, the thermostat won't shut the system off unless we manually shut it down. Oh well, it is 4 years old, can't expect anything to last more than 4 years.

        I am happy so far with the RTH8580. Very user friendly and the App works great. Only thing is touch screen is not very clear and all green color is dull.

        Reset Wifi
        I see a few reviews that had the same problem I had, "switched routers and lost internet". I thrashed frustrated for awhile in the manual and user guide to no avail.             Temperature not accurate
            Temperature is 1.5-2.5 degrees off and varies depending on temp (the warmer to room, the more off the temp). I disconnected this thermostat and went back to my old one.

            Great unit, until you get a new modem....
            I don't understand why in God's green earth Honeywell would not give you the option just to update your router/modem password versus all of the hoops you have to jump through to reconnect the thermostat to the wireless system in your home. I have been a Honeywell fan for the past 30+ years and even had one of the first programmable thermostats Honeywell came out with ~30 years ago (the Honeywell Chronotherm III *** see the attached picture). I currently have the model number RTH8580WF1007. I first tried to just reset the wireless by entering in the 0900 0 code. That didn't work. Then I did a factory reset using the 0710 1 code. That didn't work. I then tried a factory reset after removing the battery backup. Strike three. The previous wireless info is still in the thermostat and stuck in the "Wi-Fi Setup" mode. Even though it never stated in any of the research that I looked up, I disconnected my phone from 5G and joined my 2.4 frequency just in case Honeywell didn't have the 5G technology added to the thermostat. Nope. That didn't work either. I honestly cannot think of one additional thing that I can do to get this reconnected to my new wireless modem. Two+ hours of my time shot messing around with this unit. I am now getting an email every hour from my thermostat letting me know that I have a "COMMUNICATION ALERT *** Alert: The thermostat FAMILY ROOM not communicating with My Total Connect Comfort." To add insult to injury, I click on the hyperlink in the body of that email "Please use FAQ for instructions to reconnect to the internet" and it takes me to a "404 - page not found" webpage. So now the thermostat is now disconnected and I'll give it a try again in a week. Hopefully having it sit for a week will make it think that it was sitting on a shelf prior to being purchased. This is a great little unit overall. You set up the programming once and it is basically set it and forget it. The thermostat does everything for you. I could even use the app returning from a trip an hour away and release the hold so the house would be warmer when I returned from a trip. Fantastic! When I originally bought this thermostat, I had no issues getting it hooked up to the wireless in my home, but when you change your Wi-Fi router or modem, buyer beware. You better have an IT master’s degree, and even then, I don't know if you will be able to get it to reconnect.

              Easy to program; trouble free
              Have to toally rewrite my review as Honeywell evidently doesn't like adblocker. Anyway - the first Thermostat worked flawlessly for 15 years. Replaced it with the same so won't have to repair or repaint around the wall plate. Had to replace it as the fan sometimes will not shut off with ac or furnace. Repair man said thermostat is bad. No complaints as it's lasted for 15 or so years. If I had one complaint, it would be the display temp on the unit. Seems like if the sun shines on it, its screwed up for hours. For instance - the sun shines on it for a while, the display temp rises to 80 when in fact the inside temp might be 60, so the furnace doesn't come on because it's set to 68. Or the display for some reason shows 65 when the actual inside temp is 75, so the ac won't come on because it's set to 68. We've learned to live around this issue. I've yelled at my wife and she's yelled at me because both of us thought we had changed the settings making it colder or hotter, when all along it's the thermostat incorrect display temp that's been the problem. That's why this Honeywell gets a 4 instead of a 5.

                complicated and unreliable
                I've had this for about 4 months. It took about a month before I could get it connected to the internet because every time I followed the instructions the links took me to pages that didn't work. About every other time I use the app I have to relogin. And I changed my router and now I cant connect again. When you hit reconnect it goes to another page that doesnt work. It's just plain ridiculous. I will be looking for a more user friendly thermostat.

                  Great thermostat. I love being able to control my ac from anywhere on my phone. Gives me unlimited control to override or reprogram. Living in the desert we can get done radical and unexpected temperature changes.

                  Everything works great with my new honeywell thermostat. I actually bought it a while ago and was a little apprehensive to install it in my vacation rental. But with the lockdown in event I went for it. It was super easy to install and fired right up. Programming was very easy and it has been working perfectly for about a month now. I really love being able to check on it anytime. This will be a real headache saver for me when I get those needy guests too. My electric bill is the lowest I've ever seen too...lots of factors involved with that but I think this thermostat is saving me money too!

                    Difficult to get WiFi connection. My unit lost connection in July and I’ve been unable to get it reconnected. I e removed it from its base multiple times. It never says CONNECT WIFI so I can’t get it to sync back up. :-(

                          Direct touch screen setup and use is simple. Smartphone app is easy to use. Pairing the thermostat with Google Nest Hub made it super easy to adjust the temperature temporarily by voice. The crossover feature simplifies spring and fall segues.

                            When using ac the fan motor starts blowing then after 30 seconds fan relay drops then reengages to finish cycle. So far I have not found a solution

                              Programming options are no better than the digital thermostat that was installed 20 years ago. Would be nice to be able to do more, i.e. fan programing, more than four options during the day.
