I have often used an extension on my sockets when I am trying to reach an out of the way place, and no sooner do I pull out the extension than it leaves the socket behind. I have tried wrapping duct tape around the socket and extension to keep them together, but that's not very classy or professional, even for a weekend warrior so I was anxious to try these locking extension bars. These extensions are great! I don't quite understand how they grip the socket, and grip they do, like a pit bull. You wont pull off the socket until you slide down the collar. It couldn't be more easy., I like to use sockets with my impact driver or my drill, so I purchased adaptors (see picture) to allow me to use the extensions in a 1/4 inch chuck on my driver or 1/2 inch on my drill, with no worry about leaving the socket behind in some almost unreachable place. They can, however, be used with regular ratchets as well. With these extensions I find my self swearing a lot less.

Pros Durable, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, Strong, Sturdy

Having had sockets sets for well over 40 years or so, there is always a time that a socket will separate from an extension bar especially in those very tight places where visual retrieval information is very limited. To minimize this, Husky came up with a set of extension bars that lock the socket in place in a manner similar to the racket head especially of those of a major department chain. Most ratchets now have this feature so having this on an extension bar is really a plus. Husky made in China set of three extension bars accomplishes this. They are relatively short but should work for a variety of applications. The only thing to remember here is to use a rachet that has a similar locking feature to ensure the job does not get lost or delayed. Quality appears to be very good and comes with a Lifetime warranty. And yes it is recommended!

Pros Durable, Easy to Use, Strong, Sturdy, locks sockets in place Cons none!

Anyone who's had a socket fall off in that most annoying spot you can't get to needs these. The price is great. Even if you need to buy a 2nd set to get the right length, you're still well under the price of a regular snap-on set. The locking mechanism really does work, instead of just being a "tighter fit ball." As long as a person keeps them oiled, and doesn't put them on a heavy duty impact, I can see these lasting a long while, and not locking up.

  • Easy to attach and the socket will not come off until you want it to

The Husky Auto-Locking Extension Bar Set includes extension bars that are made from chromium-vanadium (Cr-V) steel and are roughly 6 inches in length with the male attachment ends covering 1/4 inch; 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch drive sizes. They include the standard Husky hand tool lifetime warranty. I found sockets push on and lock in very easily with little force required. A socket will not come off unless you pull back the collar on the extension to release it. This is great for applications where you are working on something below you and gravity can cause a socket to fall into an area that makes retrieval difficult. I used these while removing lug nuts with a breaker bar. They worked flawlessly and showed no sign of stress or weakness. Sadly they do not include a storage case.

  • I'm super impressed with the functionality of these locking extensions!...
  • August 14, 2018

I'm super impressed with the functionality of these locking extensions! They're easy to engage, lock securely, and sockets are easily released when needed. I have other very expensive "high-end brand" locking extensions, and these work as well or better, are easier to engage/disengage, and appear to be of similar build quality...at one quarter the cost! The only thing I don't really like is the mixed black and chrome finishes... time will tell if it the black finish performs as well as chrome, but it also makes it easily confused with impact-rated extensions when grabbing items during a repair. I've taken off one star for the black finish. These are also not available at every store, so I just happened to find these when I was in a store other than my frequently visited local store.
