Hi Sheri tell your techs we appreciate it! The VDV has been a great little wire map tester for about 20 years now. Use them well Ron at ron.kipper@idealindustries.com

I bought the same one I had for 9 years. I replaced it only because the old one got cracked from an errant hammer drop.

Good tool for confiming wire configuration
Very helpful in a crunch to find issues and confirm correct wiring....Although Don't test Data with a coax terminator on the Coax terminal; It will result in a short reading between pins 1 and 2. Due to the 75 Ohm resistance on a coax terminator. It will also show "Short" when there is no data cable attached. Had to take apart and measure resistance of pins 1 and 2 to find that it read 75 ohms, therefore concluded that the coax terminator that was screwed onto the terminal was the problem. Removed it and, voila, back to normal....

VTSpro85 thanks for the good review that little tester has been around for some time in the new versions of it are even better. All the inputs share a common bus and if you want to test data cables then nothing else should be plugged in to the tester

Many useful tools in one unit
Works very well - have used it for CAT5 cable as well as coax cable. Remote terminator is really handy for identifying wires - had to use this to identify several coax cables in an attic. Saves a lot of time trying to figure out what wire goes where. Just put a terminator on the other end and then use the tester at the other end of the cable runs.

    Major Time Saver!
This is definitely one of the best tools you can buy if you are in the process of rewiring your house to include ethernet (like CAT5e or CAT6) or video (like RG6) or just regular phone lines. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to use one of those cheap RJ45 LED testers to try and solve even simple wiring issues. Once I had this tester hooked up I was quickly able to see issues like mis-wiring, opens, shorts, pair numbering, crossover wiring, etc. This helped tremendously since I wasn't aware that 568A is straight wiring while 568B is crossover wiring so be careful with that when wiring your ethernet jacks or crimping connectors. Overall tool worked extremely well and its worth every penny for the time saved troubleshooting any wiring issue you might encounter.
