3 Years in 30 MinutesAfter redesigning our 50+ year old sun room, we decided to install beveled red cedar siding. We have a cedar fence and wanted the siding to match the grey weathered look. I found this product on YouTube and found it was available through Home Depot. Purchase on-line and it took 4 weeks to arrive. That's ok.
I bought 2 packages to make sure I didn't run out. Used a 2 gallon garden sprayer for application. The application itself took about 30 minutes. As stated in the product information, this will stain other things. We were prepared with plenty of clean water and buckets. Good thing. The raw siding was already installed. The product itself didn't stain anything but, the runoff from the siding was a dark amber color. The windows and doors on our room were wood, metal, and vinyl. We needed to wash/wipe all surfaces after spraying. Not a hard job and it was needed.
After 10 minutes the color began to change and after 30 minutes it was amazing! We were hoping for a grey color and got a dark brown with a silvery reflection. It wasn't what we had expected but, it looks wonderful. We thing the cedar itself had a lot to do with the final color. The lighter cedar ended up darker that the redder cedar siding boards. Also, the finish on the siding boards had a lot to do with the color. Rough was darker. Smooth was lighter which makes sense.
We tested first on a couple of scraps and a light coat of this product produced a more grey finish. Keep that in mind!
After 24 hours I spayed all surfaces heavily with water as recommended. The color darkened and I needed to wipe down all the trim again. That was July 19th.
It's now August 2nd and the finish is starting to 'age'. It looks even better. I'm used to cedar taking 3 years to develop a great color. This took 30 minutes and I couldn't be happier! The sun room and the fence accent each other and the siding looks like it has been there for years.
ECO does just what I hoped.
