Excellent Toilet, BUT, the installation instructions leave a little to be desired. Toilet seat for some reason came dissembled and there were no instructions how the parts connected. Took a bit of reverse engineering to get all the parts in the right location, but once accomplished, the soft close seat and lid work perfectly. I was initially concerned about how to make sure the base and drain attachment bolted to the floor would go together correctly since you cannot see them as you lower the base of the toilet over the floor mount. Using two people we carefully aligned where we thought they would come together and we were right. With its 12" distance to the floor hole I had to remove and modify the molding I had behind the toilet but that is a small price to pay for this excellent device. Now for the best part. This toilet FLUSHES!! It has a very aggressive, yet quick and quiet flush that really cleans everything out of the bowl. The circular motion of the flush is well designed and well executed. I would believe this one could also flush a bucket of golf balls. Refilling the tank is super quiet. Yes it is a bit more expensive but after rebuilding the old toilet with a dual flush kit, that did not work at all, this is a real pleasure to have in my house. As my other toilets need replacing this is the only one I will use.

My wife and I are doing a bath remodel. Because I'm a tight-wad, we decided to do it ourselves. One thing wifey wanted was a toilet with smooth sides to make it easier to clean. This Kolher is one of the few on the market that she liked, the price was right, so we got one and it turned out to be a good choice. There are many comments online about the toilet interfering with the existing water valve. This concerned me but as it turns out, the valve only needs to be 6" or more to the side of the centerline of the flange. The specs call for 8" but as you can see in my photo, I didn't have 8" and it worked out fine. Your flange centerline needs to be 12" from the finished wall also. Mine was exactly 12" and I still had enough room to install a 3/4" baseboard. Install the baseboard before installing the toilet or it may be difficult to get the baseboard behind the toilet. I like that you can see the wax ring installation easily and don't have to guess as you lower a heavy toilet onto the flange. The two piece Kolher system makes installation easy. I think it is an evolution in toilet design for the better. The height of the toilet is higher than our old one and I like it. It flushes thoroughly and fairly quietly. I really have no beefs with this toilet. I think when the time comes, I will replace my other toilets with this model.

I love the way the toilet mounted but had to use two wax rings to seal. The problem I have with these toilets is the waste that is sticking to the toilet bowl. Every time you crap it sticks to the bowl requiring you to brush the bowl. Don't believe the ad that says the bowl stays cleaner because it doesn't. I purchased two of them and both do the same thing. Make sure to buy a brush, you will need it.

Overall the experience has been good. Just beware of your water supply location. It can be either coming from the wall or the floor, but it MUST NOT interfere with the toilet base. Both toilets that I was replacing had floor mounted water supplies, and both supply outlets interfered with the new toilet. We had to slightly re-position both water supplies, so some additional plumbing was required. Check your specs first. This is required for any toilet replacement, but the box-like base of this toilet takes up more space. We purchased two of the Kohler Valiant toilets in March, and the first one came on line last week on April 26th. The second one won't be installed until after a floor re-tiling is completed. The unit is a vast improvement over the old Briggs 3.5 gpf toilets we had. We noticed two improvements immediately. First, the entire flush cycle takes less than five (5) seconds from the time the lever is tripped. After five seconds all you can hear is the tank refilling. Secondly, the bowl is deep enough that splash-back is now a thing of the past. No more needing a couple of toilet paper squares to wipe up escaped sprinkles.

This toilet was significantly more expensive than most of the others. My wife liked the clean look of it. There were a lot of manufacturing defects with the one I got. First off, the bottom was not flat. When I put it on the floor, it rocked back and forth worse than a crooked hightop at a dive bar. I had to take out my diamond wheel and grind away a lot of material to get it to sit flush on the floor. I also noticed that the plumbing between the tank and the bowl was very rough, with many jagged edges. This will undoubtedly slow down water flow during flush. There is also a scuff on the rim of the bowl. I did not notice this until I had the unit fully plumbed-in or else I would have taken it back. The connection between the toilet and the closet flange is made of plastic. This is not necessarily bad, but it makes me wonder about long-term durability. Flush is quiet and seems strong, but I probably would not choose this toilet again if I had it to do over. If you get a well-made (flat and smooth) unit, I'm sure it will work well.

Pros: * looks good -- the smooth sides are nice * installation is easy. Kohler did a great job with their redesigned installation system. * Swirl flush is pretty good * Looks like it will be easy to clean. Non-stick inside surfaces and no holes under the rim. * Height is great, and the self-closing seat is nice. Cons: * The swirl flush is pretty good, but not amazing. Everything flushes, but the bowl isn't necessarily wiped clean. * Water dribbles into the bowl (to fill the bowl, I assume) while the tank is filling. Since it's coming in from only one spot, if you have any minerals in your water I would expect to start seeing mineral staining along that dribble path fairly quickly.

Heard that KOHLER made the best toilets…more expensive for sure. Well after 3 defective KOHLER toilets, water wouldn’t stop running, base broke twice, a long cut on finger for checking to ensure that the toilet was ok to find it broken again…I still don’t know what is so great about KOHLER toilets. KOHLER cost me over $500 in pluming bills, to install and remove defective toilets, more than 5 trips to HomeDepot, personal time etc. Based on my experience American Standard toilet was the end result…110% better than KOHLER. HomeDepot wouldn’t compensate me for all the unnecessary cost I incurred for purchasing the defective toilets from their supplier KOHLER. After the first KOHLER toilet was installed not even 2 days of operating the water wouldn’t stop running.
