GOOD TOOL FOR MARKING CUTOUTS BACKGROUND: I make cabinets and do other carpentry and electrical work in my shop and home. I’m always looking for something to use for layout for outlets and cutouts. The Outlet Marker looked like a neat tool to test. FIT AND FINISH: The marker is plastic but sturdy. It is a marking guide, NOT a cutting guide. The markings are in mm and inches so you can use either system if you need to mark a specific size without using it to match an existing fixture. The markings are cast in relief in the body so they are not easy to read. USE: You can mark cut lines two basic ways; adjust the guide to a measurement using the cast-in rulers, or adjust the guide around the piece to be installed. I took a single-gang box and adjusted the marker around it. Once the marker is set and the adjustment knobs are tight you place the guide where you want the opening and trace along the inside. You can use the built-in spirit levels to make the opening level and plumb if desired. After the marks are made you cut the opening. (NOTE: Because you trace inside the guide you must cut on the trace lines, not inside them, for the proper size cutout.) Once you have cut the marked section out your installation piece should slide in nice and snug. SUMMARY: A nice little jig for marking square or rectangular cut out holes.

Great for marking outlet holes in drywall or paneling. The only downfall I see is that it is made of plastic so I don't know how durable it would be especially if it's placed in a tool box or bag. Or if it was to get dropped. It can be adjusted for multiple outlets in tandem if needed. It can also be used for washing machine water hook ups and drain boxes.
