The unit malfunctioned and started alarming about a fire when there was nothing wrong. The unit clearly has on and off feature however this was not functionable. You couldn't twist it on or off. We had to compromise the battery and ruin the unit after 15 mins of not getting it to stop. Terrible. This is not the first time. Just the 1st time we couldn't get it to stop. These things malfunction frequently. 10yrs is not a true statement 4 years is a better estimate. Disappointing.

I don't know what to say other than I'm greatly disappointed in Kidde. Purchased this at HomeDepot back in July 2020 and over the past few months only this one unit keeps randomly going off in the hallway. Others in rooms or close proximity don't and yes, I cleaned it and blew air in it a month ago due to this issue before. Now last night was the final straw when at 1:30am it went off and I pushed to hush, then around 2am and again around 3am to where it wouldn't even shut off. I wound up taking it down and shoving under some pillows after I finally got the hush to work, but funny in some ways I guess as it went off a short time thereafter even under the pillows though not very loud thankfully. I just wound up disabling the unit per the direcitons on back since enough is enough with this just randomly going off. Broke the tab and turned the disable & discharge and now have to find a replacement though doubt it'll be another one of these since others have similar issues I see. Go QC team!!!!

Though 10 years have just started the units preform well and functioned when tested with a very small amount of smoke from a cigarette burning about 4 feet away with normal room air currents moving the smoke. If you put these in and smoke, do so outside as you will set them off.

Kidde claims the battery has a ten year life span at which time you discard the smoke detector and replace with a new one. Kidde claims you will never hear that annoying beep indicating it’s time to change the battery. At the end of its ten year life span is the only time you will hear a beep indicating it is time to replace the smoke detector. Have no way of knowing if you will actually get a ten year life but Kidde stands by their product and their claim. If you’ve ever had the battery fail and start beeping in the middle of the night, waking you from a sound sleep, this product eliminates that.... at least until year ten. Finally, installation is a breeze. This smoke detector is probably worthy of 5 Stars, but we’ll see how it performs over the next ten years.

Good to have a Smoke alarm that does not bother you about changing the battery. Those battery chirps can be really annoying. The smoke alarm works well and the LED ESCAPE LIGHT is a great safety feature to have. My biggest grudge with the smoke alarm is the mounting hardware which was a bit challenging to mount on a popcorn ceiling.Intentions were right but the design is faulty. Once installed then it is set for 10 years (as stated on the box) We will have to wait to validate :-)

No home should be without this product. Clean, compact and set it and forget it. Honestly don't know that the battery will last 10 years - I guess I can check back and update this review then - HA! One thing I want to mention is the easy open clam shell packaging. I typically DESPISE this type of packaging un-eco friendly and there are more injuries because of it - HOWEVER this was truly an easy open package with perforations for easy removal of the smoke alarm.

Got this smoke alarm to replace a very old one with a dead battery. The main feature that drew me to this unit was the 10-year battery. Most 9v batteries in other alarms I've used only last about a year and always seem to start chirping in the middle of the night! Out of the box I was impressed with the ease of Installation for this alarm. There is a plastic circle mounting bracket with a self-tapping plastic toggle. You will also want to use the supplied screws and anchors to keep the bracket from turning. Once the bracket is installed you twist the alarm onto the bracket and its activated. If you don't use some extra screws then the bracket will turn making it difficult to get the alarm to lock in properly. This install took me a couple minutes and seems much more secure on the wall than the old metal bracket my old alarm used. The test button on this model is also about 2" across. I was easily able to press the test button from the ground with a broom handle so testing this unit is very quick and easy. The old alarm had a small button and took a ladder to reach so it didn't get tested as often as it should have. Finally, this unit has a small LED light to provide some illumination which seems very handy to me in the case of an emergency especially if there was a power outage. Overall, I'm happy with this alarm since it was easy to install, has a long life battery, and comes from Kidde who has a good reputation in the fire safety industry.

The P3010H was the 3rd P3010 unit I acquired for my collection and has the same minor problems mentioned with the P3010B. When I tested this with a tiny spray of Smoke Centurion, it alarmed within 5-10 seconds (The same time as the P3010B), as well as a escape light to help guide you to safety. There's just the 2 minor gripes that were said for the P3010B. the hush feature works, but you have to wait 10-15 seconds after the initial spray, and when the Photoelectric chamber is exposed to direct sunlight, it goes off. All that aside, this would be suitable for a hallway, during a power outage, or older structures that don't support hardwired smoke alarms.
